I am once again thinking about Sophie and Parker jumping off the roof together in The First David Job. It's so gloriously full circle. Sophie's wearing a very characteristic coat. It's much like the one we get her character introduction in. She flings that off and reveals the climbing harness - something so similar to what Parker would wear. Functional. Practical. Utilitarian.

But also she leaves that coat on that rooftop. And like, yes, it's still a mask underneath. She puts on the mask of Parker to save Parker (because the only person who saves Parker is Parker, with some secondary help) because that's what she needs to do to save Parker.

But there's something here about how Sophie's been wearing various masks all season. This is the episode that begins to really expose her. It's an ending. But it's also a start? The first of many times when it comes down to the wire and the whole team knows that she has the ability to do what she just did to all of them and yet she chooses the team. Not just Nate - the team!!! Parker!!!

And look how she embraces it. IIRC we have not seen Sophie rigged since this episode.

The facade begins to fracture here. Her identity issues that we see in s2 start here. For Parker (for the team!), she begins to give up her grip on the past so that she can move into the future.

I like Bones a lot because the title character is a woman who is often rude, imperious, and socially inept in a way that is off-putting and Not Cute and she is still treated like a valid human being with positive qualities and friends and colleagues who Get her even when she is being extremely annoying. It's not something one sees often.

You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"

And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."

And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.

each year congress people should be required to go on a field trip where they each get dumped in the middle of a random u.s. town & handed a phone with google maps & forced to find their way back to washington solely through the use of local public transportation systems.

to be clear i don't think this would improve our political reality in any way, but it would be fun to watch
