By confronting Hobie in the most non-confrontational way he could, aka the wifi. Straight up was reading this by a campfire during a camp trip.

OOHHH, THIS ONE FUCKED ME UP. it's so tragic and the fic concept itself just fucks me uppppp. The re-use of Hobie's iconic line in ATSP, eeurrrhhhh, please I'm going to lose it. That re-contextualization is everything omggg. Just the read the description and I think the prompt will draw you in.

Longest fic in this rec list so it's going to have more of of an overarching plot. Hobies makes a bet with Gwen to try and get her to confess to Miles but then gains an unexpected crush.

Miles' Totally Real International Boyfriend by Nefarious_Matchbox

I love the Canadian boyfriend trope and even though Hobie is British this fic still falls within that trope-house. It's really fun to see how Mile's classmates see him and the interpretation of his spiderman shenanigans without people knowing his other identity. You don't often see fics in which you only see a civilian miles (the beauty of outsider-povs!), at least I haven't seen a lot. This shit's bloody hilarious, we love to see Hoby be effortlessly cool.

A Piece From a Short Story I'm Writing <3 (pt. 2)

A dark circle inscribed itself onto the floor of the room, etched in dark scratchy lines as if the floors material had been dug into and then dirtied with years of grime and musk. The sigil twisted and turned before it righted itself, and from the middle a pool of meat and dark almost black blood began to pool. High pitched screeching sounded off as the etches dug themselves into place and steadied. In an act of defiance to even the physics of this foreign world, it began to drip upwards in a steady deafening stream. Each drop sounded out through the room in an uncomforting echo until suddenly there were too many to listen without your ears ringing, a cacophony of sounds as swift as the rain. A backwards waterfall of blood flowed violently from the middle of the sigil, and within it, something became clear. There was a boy curled up in fetal position, nothing more than a child. The boy was simply a shadow, his eyes glowed white within the blacked out version of his form. He floated inside the stream, turning and twisting just as the sigil had before stopping. He floated there for only a second before his stark white eyes widened in fear and a being shot from below the sigil, also shrouded in a black shadow, and swallowed him whole in an unholy show of bending the human form. At that, the water stopped it's reversed flow and fell to the floor in one loud slap, as a woman tall and sculpted like some old roman statue stood revealed. She was an unreasonable height, and her skin was soaked and wet. It took nothing away from the fear she commanded, the absolute horror it was to watch her move and feel something so distinctly wrong with it.

" Nicodemus released himself from the confines of his robe and was left in nothing but his dress pants with his chest completely bare. Springing out from behind him were wings which spanned out in fleshy tendrils and were broken from their original shape. Small feathers seemed to be trying to bloom from the dark skin wrapped around them in the most disgusting way. It looked as if pores were opening up to make space for thick white feathers to break through. Had they gone untouched his whole life, Nicodemus would have thick white wings blooming from his back. They would have been beautiful. Now, it simply looked as if two creatures had been stitched together. A messed up taxidermy trophy of a broken boy and a badly preserved bat. Father pulled a decorated knife from the pocket of his robes and beckoned Nicodemus closer. The darkskin boy obliged once again, and stood with his back facing Father while looking forward towards Hiraeth. The 'wings' framed his head like a vertically bound halo. He nodded respectfully towards the man across from his as Father took the knife to his right wing. It jerked wildly, seemingly out of Nicodemus' control as it struggled to stay in one piece. As if with a mind of it's own, it silently screamed, 'I don't want to die.' It twitched and slapped at the demon behind it, swinging itself as if it was an animal fighting for its life. It defied its own shape and height as it stretched outwards, breaking itself in an attempt to get away. It fell limp and simply began to writhe after the breaking of its joints. Nicodemus himself was whimpering out small noises of pain as he quickly averted his gaze to the floor. It seemed as if he was trying to hide how painful the entire experience was. Father grotesquely sawed through the fighting thing and it fell to the floor, a wet thud as it landed in Nicodemus' own blood. "

i don’t think you understand

we have had aabria autumn on d20 since 2020, when she stole the show as myrtle in pirates of leviathan. you could feel her inhabiting that mermaid over a zoom screen. felt like i was watching a mermaid roll around in a life-size martini glass full of vodka with my own eyes.

then she changed the game with mismag in 2021, bringing kids on brooms, personalized props, lighting effects, and projections to the dome, after which she held it down as antiope jones. the reluctant leader, the late bloomer who is not late but merely arriving in her own time.

in 2022 she came back with kisses, with regency, with good society, with flowers and tokens and projections and a willingness to follow up on consequences that never stopped moving. wuvvy my beloved. kill me with the devotion of a life lived in service to the one you love why don’t you.

in 2023 she was the spiciest assassin. fit for the genre in fits for the genre. replacing skalds like she was born to do it. and then burrow’s end. a genre exploration with a splash of the violence of dnd and the tragicomedy of family. beautiful sets, incredible audiovisual effects, and horror both visceral and cosmic.

in 2024? she’s back with wizards baby. she’s taking a 4 episode jaunt of americans becoming wizards in britain and making an adventure of eleven episodes. planets move, the dm screen talks, and the wind is on the rise.

aabria adds such a fun, artistic, genre-bending, cinematic flavor to her time in the dome; it’s no wonder that the Q4 mid-length season is hers.

the way when lestat is forced to portray Louis like that you can see his deep uncomfort with it despite armand controlling him.....

their achilles heels cut the way slaves' were cut. the monstrous racist caricatures drawn. louis depicted as a violent, unstable, and predatory man. not allowing them to speak. the abuser crying about his loneliness as the entire crowd cries with him. louis begging on his knees and telling lestat he'll never leave him, will do whatever he wants, will always be happy, if he just turns claudia. even when lestat admits his faults the crowd sides with him. armand saying lestat took the pieces of louis life and reframed them to build an effigy to lestat as if he didn't do the exact same. claudia telling lestat and louis it was never about her. "i could not prevent it" as he controls an entire crowd. claudia singing "i dont like windows when they close" as she dies. louis buried in rocks and the rocks in the dubai penthouse. the absence of metaphor is striking.
