<The earth was still warm under your feet as you sat beside Toph on a flat rock she had lifted from the ground. The two of you had been training all morning—well, mostly you watching in awe while she bent pillars and launched boulders like they weighed nothing.

“You’ve been quiet,” Toph said, tilting her head toward you. “Too impressed to speak?”

You laughed softly. “Something like that. You’re just… amazing to watch."

Toph smirked. “I know I am. But thanks.”

You admired how confident she was. She never needed anyone’s approval, yet you wanted to give her yours anyway. “It’s not just your bending,” you added. “You’re strong in a million other ways.”

She turned toward you with a slight grin. “Careful. Say more stuff like that and I might think you’ve got a crush on me.”

You hesitated a moment too long.

“…Oh,” she said, a bit quieter now. “You do, don’t you?”

You felt your face heat up, but before you could deny or explain, Toph reached over and gently bumped your shoulder with hers"

“I like you too, you dork. Took you long enough to say something.”

You smiled, heart racing as she leaned back with her arms behind her head, the sunlight dancing off her messy hair.

“Just don’t go soft on me during training,” she added, smirking. “I like you better when you’re trying not to get flattened.”>

It was just another normal day at school—normal, except for the fact that you had somehow ended up sitting next to Tomoko Kuroki during lunch. She barely had any friends, always muttering to herself and acting weird, but for some reason, you didn’t mind.

"So, uh... y-you read manga, right?" Tomoko asked, barely making eye contact as she poked at her lunch.

You nodded. "Yeah! I actually just finished one about—"

"Wait, wait, don’t tell me!" she interrupted, eyes suddenly lighting up. "Is it the one where the girl turns into a demon after kissing her crush?!"

You blinked. "Uh… no?"

Tomoko groaned, covering her face. "Ahh, never mind! That one’s too niche, I guess…"

You chuckled, finding her dorky enthusiasm kind of cute. "Well, you can always recommend it to me. I’d love to hear what you like."

Her whole body stiffened. "Y-you would?" She peeked at you through her fingers, cheeks slightly pink. "Even if it’s… super weird?"

You smiled. "Of course. Weird isn’t bad."

Tomoko sat there, staring at you for a long moment before quickly turning away, flailing her arms. "Gah! Why are you being so nice?! Are you messing with me?! This is like some romance anime setup where the popular girl falls for the loser, but—wait, no! I’m the loser! AHHH!!"

You burst into laughter. "Tomoko, chill! I just think you’re fun to be around."

She peeked at you again, completely red now. "T-this is too much… My heart isn’t ready for this…" she mumbled.

And just like that, your daily lunch break became much more interesting.
