Do you think the people in the Ouroboros program are NPCs generated based on Alita and Nova’s memories or are they “played” by the minds of Nova’s experimental subjects? Probably the first. Then again putting his victims in a simulation of something that is almost like the life they used to have but obviously fake with the additional enforced rule that they’re unable to directly harm Nova or acknowledge him as the god of this false reality… doesn’t feel entirely out of character for him.

The more important, character wise, question is Ido. We know Nova made a backup of what Ido wiped out of his memory and kept it with him into late Last Order. It’s very likely he made a copy of the whole chip.

If he does have a full copy of Ido’s brainchip, why wouldn’t he use that as the Ido in Ouroborus for maximum realism.

Look at how devastated he is when the Ouroboros ends. Yes, he could be freaking out that he’s about to die or mourning a fake wholesome relationship with Alita. Or he could be mourning Ido. Notice how Ido is the last part of the ilusion to vanish.

Imagine the implications.

When Alita said goodbye to that simulated Ido, he was closer to the Ido she knew than the real Ido who was living with Kayna.

When Alita killed the simulated Ido in hopes of ending the nightmare, she didn’t do it to the hitbox assigned to a group of voxels that look like Ido, she did it to a version of Ido.

When Nova was playing house with the simulated Ido, he wasn’t playing out his selfshipping fantasies on character.ai, he was holding hostage a version of the man he got attached to.

Imagine what that Ido would think and feel when he realised he’s not real but the two people closest to him are. Would it change the way he behaves? Would he even know? How much control and awareness did Nova allow him to have? We know he had some autonomy because one of the first things he did was kick Nova in the face. How much of his memory did Nova allow him to have?

Or is it a fake Ido created based on Nova and Alita’s memories, because despite having access to a model as accurate as they get, he’d rather create a new one to use as a prop because he knew the real one would reject him?

I see two options.

1. Nova has backwards standards and what he considers weird is actually just some totally harmless rare/confusing kink. Like being turned on by wearing socks backwards.

2. It's some horror show that's only possible if you're immortal and/or have given up on most versions of the concept of human decency. Like getting turned on by gurgling spinal fluid like mouthwash. It's only cannibalism if you swallow! Or temporary lobotomies.

Alita getting to Zalem as a celebrity could look like a certain scene from Last Order if she gets flocked by child fans.

But if they become tuned agents, which is also a possible way to get the movie continuity back on track with the manga, how would that be going to Zalem? Tuned agents are deployed on the ground. Unless either they can travel to and from Zalem (would be pretty convinient) or you count going to Zalem for a celebration and then being dumped back down.

The fate of the Final Champion

How are they transported to Zalem? Is there some ceremony in the Iron City to entertain people?

What happens to them when they arrive to Zalem?*

We know from novelization that Motorball is important for both Iron City AND Zalem, to provide them "bread and circuses" and remain status quo.

This means Alita could be a superstar for Zalemites.

I wouldn't be surprised when the Final Champion goes to Zalem, they make a show out of it (kinda similar to Victors in Hunger Games for example).

... then they could be turned into a Tuned Agent or get rid of in some way. Or just... live in Zalem as a mascot but stripped of any power to pose a threat.

*Some people say it's a scam and the Champion doesn't even go to Zalem. But my take is, it can't be 100% scam, they indeed go up. Otherwise Ido wouldn't explain (reveal?) this is the only way to get to Zalem, it was supposed to be the legit method contrary to Vector's scam.

(we can't reference the manga because it's movie-only thing)

Another thing is, feels likely this all isn't even relevant to the plot as Alita probably won't come to Zalem as the Final Champion, but that's another topic.
