i love ur drarry fics - i returned to reading drarry after a rlly long time and i live ur portrayal of them. i wanted to ask what ur thoughts are on the popular desi harry hc as a fellow desi person. personally i feel like a lot of attempts to focus on it come off super inauthentic + only focus on the desi “aesthetic” more than anything else. but i feel like maybe it’d be better when written by a desi author. i fear some of them come off too obviously like theyre written by non desis (not that i dont appreciate their efforts lol)

hello! thanks so much, first of all; i'm flattered! hmmm... i want to start by saying i'm not against desi harry by any means--i prefer writing him desi (though it doesn't show because i'm quite bad at physical description and antsy about integration lol) & i've read loads of fics with desi harry that i really love. in general i vastly prefer reading him desi than white; beyond being pleased at adding representation to a heavily flawed series, it just activates that childish part of my brain that likes seeing my favourite characters be like me :P

that being said, i definitely understand what you mean regarding attempts that feel a bit clumsy or, um... obviously written by white people, for lack of a delicate way to put it haha! i remember checking out a few fairly popular fics and being really taken aback at what they chose to include as part of their rep (the semipopular "snake charmer" trope & variations irt parseltongue really make me raise my eyebrows even when the intention obviously isn't to be racist), and there are lots of portrayals that are obviously well-intentioned but still miss the mark a bit. personally tend to bristle with ones that have, for example, having huge swaths of the plot dedicated to harry teaching his friends about desi customs or desi food: mostly because it feels a little unnatural/almost ooc with the harry we know from the books.

if i remember correctly, aideomai is desi? and their fics have my personal favourite kind of use of desi harry, where it's mentioned enough that it's unambiguous that he Is desi, but the fic doesn't become about him being desi before he's harry. but i think even the attempts that i personally don't have a lot of fun reading are doing their best to represent a group of people whose only representation in canon was via incredibly minor characters, so i don't mind it at all overall :P

ah i actually don't read much fic at all :') the only ones i can recommend are the classics everyone's well familiar with (dwelling & far from the tree, heal thyself, what we pretend we can't see, grounds for divorce)

ah, this one was harder than i thought to answer! leaning something like butter pecan for harry because it hits similar notes to treacle tart (very sweet/rich but with a nutty flavour cutting into it).

as for draco: my first thought was something like mint chocolate? but i think that might just be the green/black association. instinct is leading me to lemon sherbet, for some reason.

Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.

Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.

Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?

So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)

Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.

wip... er, wednesday! harry's never had good sex. malfoy is obviously bafflingly concerned about this.

It wasn’t that they didn’t get on. Or—they didn’t, but they weren’t duelling every time they exchanged words anymore. It just didn’t feel right to have their relationship shift into anything friendlier. The half of his school life that hadn’t been about Voldemort had been about hating Malfoy, and then the two had been the same until Malfoy didn’t have the stones to kill Dumbledore but did to save Harry, somehow, and then Harry’d testified for him and gotten him and Narcissa out of serving any time at all and—there was just too much between them. Too much said and unsaid. One time he and Malfoy had been alone together for five minutes and Harry’d said er and Malfoy’d sneered and gone scintillating conversation once again, Potter, and that was the end of it.

Which was fine. Everyone had someone they couldn’t really talk to. It just made it sort of weird when Malfoy showed up at his doorstep at two in the afternoon and said: “Has no one ever—really?”

Harry stared at him blankly. “That’s…” He paused. “I don’t think I understand the question.”

“I mean,” said Malfoy with a large flourish like he was delivering a lecture to an audience and not beginning to rave like a lunatic, “obviously you’re not totally horrible looking—”

“Appreciate the compliment, Malfoy; you’re too kind as always, but—”

“And you’re you; you should be able to get anyone to do anything,” continued Malfoy, and Harry remembered: the pub, that awful conversation, Malfoy’s blank face when he’d looked at Harry and murmured must be in his low, strange way. He pulled Malfoy inside before his neighbours could overhear.

“Are you crazy?” he asked as soon as the door clicked shut. “Have you actually gone—”

“I just don’t get,” said Malfoy, his tone rising now, incredulous and—and angry, though Harry couldn’t begin to fathom at what, “how you of all people haven’t had a good shag.”

Harry felt wretched, suddenly, and tired and horribly annoyed at how everyone seemed to expect that he’d have more experience than he did, be something different than he was, so without thinking he snapped, “If you’re so bloody obsessed with it, you might as well show me what a good shag is like.”

Malfoy fell silent. He was flushed from his ears to his throat. He opened and closed his mouth, then did it again, then replied, his voice just barely wavering: “Fine. I will.”
