No, I do not support using AI (it's awful for the environment), and no I do not support any sort of AI-generated piece of fiction in a creative space that's meant to belong to people with passion for writing. HOWEVER In no way do I find it acceptable to claim that another person's work is "Definitely AI-generated". This is because AI uses humans to develop a tone and writing style. A fanfic uses an em dash? maybe the author wanted to vary their punctuation. The storyline gets mixed up? Maybe the author is human and lost track of their storyline, or are returning to a work they haven't written in a while. Why are we trying to condemn and put down authors that willingly put their work and art into our fandoms because we suspect they might be AI? Why are we releasing "PSA"s that make writers self-conscious of their writing styles or make them feel as if they need to change how they write for an audience they provide for? Authors choose to share their hard work and effort in spaces that we inhabit, and they do not owe you that. As a writer, it is genuinely appalling to see readers put down authors that are genuinely trying their best, with no genuine evidence that AI produced their work. I've poured literal hours upon hours into my works, and I would be devastated to see someone discredit anything I've poured my heart into like that. It devastates me that there's potential other authors are going through that right now. I have a beta reader that works so damn hard and helps me release quality pieces, and I'd be pissed if someone looked at their revisions and said "that's just AI slop". I adore my readers. I love their feedback, interactions, and hearing what they enjoyed about what I poured my soul into, because that's what writing is. Art, whether it's drawings, writings, or otherwise, is art because it's a part of the creator, something that a person carved from their heart and laid bare for the world to see. You do not get to decide whether or not that is to be condemned, just because you have a "hunch" they used AI. If you call someone's writing AI by calling it "horrible", guess what? You didn't only insult their writing, if they wrote it themselves, but you insulted the authors that AI steals from. AI stole from us first, not the other way around. And for anybody that's still here: thank you. I hope you find there's more to me than anger in the rest of my little corner of the internet. Let's all be humans together, and by that I mean, let's show each other love, because nothing is more human than that.
