Now, it was Larry’s turn to feel overwhelmed. Lucky Liver Larry was no guilty Glynda or nothing, he was a hardcore, ride-or-die hard ass, with nerves of steel. It’s just that, if the kid opened that duffle bag, she might get the wrong idea. She’ll look at all that green and wonder ‘Hey, why would someone as cool and obviously rich as Larry have all his money in cash? Shouldn’t he store some of this in the bank?’.

And when you lived as full a life as old Larry, you knew that, when little girls start asking questions, everything’s gonna come out. Because they’re devious little gremlins. Besides, this was one of those super saint dudes, he wouldn’t want to corrupt Paris’ sweetheart by showing her all that moolah. She might start getting the itch to steal!

“It’s dirt,” he said with the profound confidence of a man who didn’t just say those exact words. “For holes and stuff.”

“Right…” she seemed to buy it just fine, but then again she was also talking into her yoyo, “Volly, tell me you have eyes on the mouse miraculous?”

Carapace kept one arm looped around Bee's, pulling her flat against him as the sludge flooded in around them, its limbs already hungrily swiping at the air in front of them in anticipation. The sludge had been a handful before, but had ultimately been a simple matter to avoid when he realized how mindless it was; just an object permanently charging forward. But now, this 'Monster Mash' was being directly guided by Argos' hand, and that was a much more complicated thing to avoid.

"Who are you calling the B-Team!?" Bee snapped, struggling in Carapace's grasp to get physically close enough to give Argos a piece of her mind.

"Hm, I suppose you're right. How rude of me," Argos leaned forward, that shit-eating grin wide enough to escape his face, "You two are more like the D-Team!"

Editing the next World on Fire chapter, I was thinking about the contrast between my two fics again, more specifically the characters meeting their alternate selves, and I realized that it'd basically be this:

WF!Marinette: I may or may not have had a hand in causing the end of the world, my lies tore apart the lives of everyone I care about, and my only constant ally is my nemesis who is a coin flip away from choking out innocent people. MM!Marinette: Wow, that sounds terrible. I don't know how I'd cope with that. I lost the miracle box, and I'm still struggling to manage it. WF!Marinette: Hey, if I've learned anything from my years of being Ladybug, it's that you're always gonna find dead ends. You just have to be willing to turn back and try another path. MM!Marinette: R-Right, I'll remember that. Thanks. WF!Marinette: You're a great Ladybug already, I'm sure. Just, uh, try not to become a control freak, okay? It never turns out well. MM!Marinette: *Writing this all down* Oh, yeah, one question? WF!Marinette: Shoot. MM!Marinette: How'd you deal with your drug addiction? WF!Marinette: ... WF!Lila: It came with the butterfly miraculous, turns out it was cursed. MM!Lila: I get the feeling everything about you is cursed. WF!Lila: Hey, it's not that bad. It comes with perks. I get all these cool abilities, I can torture all the people I hate, there's some minor brain damage and a lot of voices in my head. It even came with a free Dad! MM!Lila: ...Please tell me that he's not the giant oaf in the dumb cowboy hat. WF!Lila: He's not bad once you get to know him! MM!Lila: Whatever you say. WF!Lila: Hey, it's better than having no family at all. How are those three mothers who pay you to stop bothering them? WF!Adrien: I wish I could have gotten to see that before he died. Things were at the worst between us when he... When he and Marinette... MM!Adrien: Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to rub salt in the wound. WF!Adrien: It's fine. I'm happy to know that there's at least one universe where it seems to be working out for us. MM!Adrien: Hey, never say never. With all the crazy stuff happening, your Hawkmoth might get a second chance to make things right. Literally nothing can be worse than this. *Turns to the left, spots MM!Chloe kissing MM!Nino.* *Turns to the right, spots MM!Alya flirting with MM!Volpina.* WF!Alya: This timeline was a mistake.

WF!Tomoe: This is unacceptable. MM!Tomoe: Oh my, is that how I used to look? WF!Tomoe: I'm a Tsuguri, I'm the leading mind in robotics and a cornerstone of the industry. The main villains are literally using my company to fund and develop all the technology for their master plan. AND I ONLY HAVE ONE CHAPTER OF SCREENTIME!? The silence between them stretched on until Hawkmoth broke the ice.

“My mother was an alcoholic.”

“Huh?”

“My wife was too.” He fiddled with his fingers, face contorting into a flinch with every word, “I never liked who they were when they were drunk, even if my wife tried to protect me by taking her episodes outside. She thought I never noticed, but I did, I always did.”

Neither Gabriel nor Hawkmoth were good at saying thank you. He supposed this was a manner of compromise, offering her those crumbs of history that she valued for reasons he couldn’t understand, answering those incessant questions that felt so pointless to ask.

“That’s… that’s why I’m stingy about alcohol.”

He heard Mayura take a few steps back, a light gasp slipping from her lips, “I never knew-” she caught herself on something and cleared her throat, “I never thought about it like that. Forgive me, I was being insensitive the other night.”

He waved his hand, dismissing her apology, “I doubt I have any room to complain about another being ‘insensitive’ about information they don’t even have.”

The casual confession seemed to give her pause, pulling herself together before she slipped by his side once more, slotting in so perfectly, like she belonged there. “Heartbreaker must have really rattled you if you’re in a forgiving mood.”

His response was a non-committal grunt.

I love how the moment you use for Hawkmoth and Mayura is literally seconds before Hawkmoth starts getting aggressive with her for poking his sore relationship with alcohol.

Also, now I can't stop thinking that Hawkmoth's big gloves, the rubbery texture, and buttoned up suit make him look like an off-color Neo Cortex.

This man was a mad scientist in another life.

Mayura’s stage shook vigorously, back-and-forth, back-and-forth, until finally, with the might roar of the earth battling metal, the stage ripped itself from the ground, revealing that the substance had dug deep enough to convert one giant cube of the landmass into blue steel. It rose up into the sky, leaving just a deep crater in its wake.

The spotlights rose with the stage, flashing between different shades of blue and moving around the stage, highlighting the group of unsteady people taken with it. Mayura stood at the foot of the stage, undeterred by her creation swaying side-to-side over a fatal drop.

Fog covered the entire stage in an instant, flooding it and leaving only Mayura to be seen, where an extra tendril shot out from the stage and seemingly impaled her heart. Mayura had no reaction to this, she just waited, waited until a blue orb appeared over her heart and then, in another flash, spat out a microphone with a stand into her arms.

Mayura swept up the microphone with flair and purpose, hunching over it in a sharp arc and crying into the microphone, “Heartstopper!” She stabbed her heel into the stage, “This is Amplifier.”

One hand broke free, flying back to run over Mayura’s chest, “I am Mayura.”

Then, snap, click and her hand shot forward like a whip lashing out at the air, “And, in front of Paris, I challenge you… To a rock off!”

"Chat," she groaned, pulling on his shoulder, "your dad will be fine now that we don't have the akuma powering them up. Mayura's taking care of him."

His head ducked forward with an almost animalistic growl rumbling from his chest, "That's why I'm worried!" he cried out, casually extending his baton to bonk Volpina on the head as he turned his head to Ladybug. "W-We can't trust her to do anything! How do we know she won't unhinge her jaw and eat him or something?"

Words failed Ladybug for the moment. Volpina dived in to try and catch Chat unawares, but Ladybug swiftly stepped in to smack her away with the yoyo. It was strange how casually confident and powerful she felt the moment Chat showed up on her side, they almost seemed to empower each other. Still, her focus was on making sense of Chat's hang up.

"Do you think that's something women can just... Do?" she asked.

Chat crossed his arms, pouting, "Only the ugly, no-good dad-stealing ones."

"Chat-"

"She's already a thief, tell me I'm wrong!"

Theoretical Hope - Summary

Marinette and Jagged break into Roth's base in the present, whilst Chat and Team Miraculous return to Paris to face off against Team Moth in a miraculous warzone.

Marinette had never choked someone out before, let alone ever imagined doing so without her Ladybug powers in effect. Predictably, she was terrible at it.

A tiny little hamster of a girl wrapping her little arms around the throat of a far larger bull. It would have been funny to look at if not for the fact that her target was currently throwing himself up against the wall in an attempt to crush her to death, and that she could feel her bones cry out with every slam.

"Jagged!" she moaned, "Heeeeelp."

From across the room, the rockstar was busy with his own opponent, a large bald man. He was in the midst of going through the entire inventory of the room with said man, and by that he meant that he was picking up literally anything he could find and smashing it over the man's head. A brick, a book, a folding chair; even a toilet seat was wielded as a blunt instrument, but nothing seemed to put the man down.

"I'm a little busy…" Jagged huffed and puffed, sparing Marinette only one glance. "You just need to keep squeezing, put your elbow into it… You keep letting him go."

"That's easy for you to say!"
