Lisa Labute
DSCRBD Vol 6 Ch 2
If you live in Toronto, or you're on a health kick, you've most likely heard of 'the Goods' out on Dundas St W. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the incredibly friendly and upbeat Lisa Labute, creator of the Goods. Their makeup is cooking with single ingredient ingredients that all have healing properties, hence “the Goods”. After over a decade in advertising, she found a calling after going through different avenues in food; more specifically raw vegan food.
"I was totally unaware food. At the time I had no idea how unaware I was but I just knew it was something I needed to pursue". Self-described as having an extreme personality, she delved herself in entirety, and what started as simply cooking for a small group of people, quickly snowballed into lunch orders that she could barely keep up with.
Her long journey has been filled with some serious eye-opening moments, "when speaking about entrepreneurship, no one has instant success. For some reason, I had the idea that it was going to be really fast, and it's not. And when you really dig in and do some research into businesses that you admire, we're talking 10-15 years later they're a thing".
We want to give Lisa and the Goods a big shoutout and thank them for sitting down with us. As always for more stories like these sub, like and share, it helps us grow!

"It was an epiphany. Here's this person who refused to eat any vegetable, now chugging blended juices on a daily basis. It was profound; the craziest experience, mentally and physically." The amazing Lisa from the Goods scratches the surface on how she got started. Keep tuned this is going to be a good one!

Pam Lau
DSCRBD Vol 6 Ch 1
This is a feature we can't stop gushing about. Pam is a rising star based out of Toronto. You've most likely seen her photography work without knowing, an example being the collection for the ever-growing Peace Collective. The biggest compliment we can give Pam is you know it's something she shot just by seeing her work from afar. That's saying something this day in age for any artist; trying to carve a style can take many their entire lives.
This can be seen in the harmonious chord between the colour palette of her sets, wardrobe, lighting, leading lines and poses of the models; a balance of meticulous effortlessness. An element of analogue helps smooth it all together, she says: "Any creative personal shoots I'll try to only do film; with clients I'll try push shooting at least 1 or 2 rolls. It's a return to a slower movement of things, and thinking about things more carefully."
Pam is methodic and serene during her shoots  — this translates thematically through to her images. Watching her on set is akin to seeing someone carve a sculpture, etching away each frame until there's something she sees that's visually pleasing. She goes on to say, "a good image for me taps into something subconscious we're not aware of".
A big shoutout to Pam, she’s a must-follow on Instagram and Twitter. As always for more stories like these sub, like and share, it helps us grow!

"With art and even advertising, when you have something that is well crafted but has no message or ideology harnessing it, it just becomes a surface image — you only appreciate it purely by it's aesthetics. For me a good image taps into something subconsciously that you are not aware of." Keep your eyes peeled for this one folks, the ever so talented Pam L on deck!

Jenn Nascimben
DSCRBD Vol 5 Ch 3
Confidence, inquisitiveness, self-awareness are some of the qualities I've had the chance to admire about Jenn. Like many Canadians, Jenn comes from a family that immigrated to Canada with little to nothing looking for a better future for their children. Her parents instilled discipline at a young age that led her on a journey from getting into med school; completing a double major in psychology and communications; doing a masters in Australia, to now being a Marketing Manager in Toronto.
As of recent, Jenn's been shifting focus to discovering passions and travel, "I always want more — to see more and do more, to experience it all. That's kind of the best form of education. You can learn so much just from meeting other people and seeing their way of life" My favourite takeaway, however, from my time with Jenn was her appreciation that life isn't perfect, it's a continual work in progress: "I never want to feel comfortable — I want to be happy, but I always want something that continues to push me" This don't settle attitude is something refreshing that I found inspiring. We wanted to thank @29nash’s for hanging out with us, and as always for more stores like these sub, like and share!

Gabby DaRienzo
DSCRBD Vol 5 Ch 2
We met up with Gabby DaRienzo an early Saturday morning at Bento Miso — a collaborative workspace for artists, designers and alike. This is not unusual for Gabby to be working weekends, in fact this is now part of her routine, "but that's a good thing", she says, "I wouldn't want it any other way".
You see Gabby has been hard at work, taking part in many projects, but more notably co-founding @laundrybear with her partner. What started out as part necessity and part fascination has now culminated into the start of a refreshing game development venture. Gabby, a self taught game-designer, learned of her obsession at a young age.
Having grown up around gaming myself, it's amazing to hear Gabby talk about how different things are now in this realm. She talks passionately about where she hopes and envisions it to be. For one she wants the community to become a more diverse one, and she is actioning this by being a leader in different groups and speaking at various events, "when you have a non-diverse group making and playing games, you're missing out on so many different perspectives". It's quite amazing to see someone thrive so well in their atmosphere and take pride in what they do.
If you're not already, you need to follow @gabbyfromtoronto and her company @laundrybear and as always for more stories like these, subscribe, like and share!
