BPRD: The Dead Remembered #1
Written by: Mike Mignola and Scott Allie
Art by: Karl Moline and Andy Owens with colors by Dave Stewart
As I get further into the "Mignolaverse" it's moments like these that have me SCREAMING in excitement, and why my little exploration of what I've understood to be "edgier" characters has been so rewarding - because it's not about Hellboy being sad or angry as much as it's about his subtle and adorable ways of looking out and after his people. Any time he interacts with the team (or any of his associates for that matter) we often get this beautiful insight into what he believes in, and how he goes about living his life and moving forward.
I think this gets me so much because of how similar it is to his treatment of Roger in another story contained in the "Being Human" trade, how when he recognizes Rogers troubles about his own existence his course of action is to "go to work", to throw the two of them into a strange and unsettling adventure where any notions of logic or reason you've earned up unto this point become useless. Time and time again being in such a situation can only teach you a handful of common things: the most important I think being, to try hold tight your head and keep onward, despite anything, or everything. - AL

So I kinda finished the EVA manga a couple days ago and I have so many thoughts??? Why do people care about the anime and the films so much? One of the few pieces I don't see the manga brought up, and I feel the most satisfying ending exists in this form - but something tells me this ANNO fella didn't have as much to do with the ending of the manga lol
That being said, this is the ending I was looking for. The other two seem so 1. Bleak and terrifying and 2. Misogynistic, but I feel in the case of the anime that was definitely on purpose - doesn't mean I agree with or enjoy it

Uzumaki was actually the first visual piece I picked up, out of morbid curiosity. The way in which I had first heard of the story is embarrassing so I'll spare that here, but Junji Ito quickly became the first author whose catalogue I needed to devour entirely.
Although I suppose I wish the stories "bothered" me more, in an attempt to feel a sense of nostalgia for my time night after night watching horror films and reading nosleep contest submissions as a teenager, the fun I had reading these stories were the start of a lovely new hobby.
For the most part, having been casually obsessed with cosmic horror I find myself bored and tired of the genre. Uzumaki, however, sits firmly atop the pile as one of my favorites.

... that being said, No Longer Human totally rattled me.

I can't find the words to express how grateful I am to have been pushed as an adult to buy and read the comic books and manga I had always missed out on when I was younger. My library, a recent addition and hopefully a permanent mainstay in my home, is now at this point almost a third collections' of visual storytelling; a tribute to an art I slowly find myself becoming obsessed with.
For a long while I've been writing and producing various projects that I refuse to let see the light of day, one of which was a video project I called the EgoTest Dope Show: "Shit's dope, let's talk about it." - but my aversion to sharing my identity, appearance and such has kept me from exploring that route with the project as I would find it disingenuous to created what I had intended and attempt to pretend my identity, through my personal opinion, wouldn't have needed to be a major factor in the conception of any one episode.
So maybe, I'll just do it here in some written format. Share my thoughts on the various visual works I've read and hopefully get into some conversations with strangers about these beautiful and fantastic stories I've only recently had the privilege and opportunity to explore.
Recommendations are always welcome.
