crazy how senku won the poker game because he is just that obsessed with gen
hold on i can elaborate! so everyone and their mothers knew gen was going to cheat and were being extra cautious of his actions. naturally, kohaku caught onto gen's cheating tricks multiple times with her sharp eyes, but as it turns out, gen was purposefully being obvious about it. then senku caught onto something kohaku didn't, just from noticing the odd posture that gen took– the bug inside gen's sleeve

this is something one would notice only if they pay close attention to gen. senku immediately clocked gen out for this rare boorish posture the millisecond gen took this sitting stance, because it's such an odd pose for gen, who usually sits in a more refined manner. and senku who knows gen so well they can communicate without words, would of course, notice something as obvious as this... something kohaku and her sharp eyes didn't because she doesn't observe gen as closely as senku does
but gen was 4d chess-ing senku anyways. he knew senku would notice that and it was all a distraction. and while senku and kohaku were busy checking the cards, he pulled his final act to switch ryusui's cards
what gen didn't expect was just how much senku had learned from him... senku had tricked gen back by using the invisible lacquer he was allergic to. so senku was using science and manipulation to trick gen– a mix of both of their fields (and so was gen)
but their final move was a representation of their respective field. senku's was the invisible lacquer (science) and gen's was the distraction and quick switch (mentalism and magic). and so the conclusion to their poker game– which was really a "hard science vs soft science" competition– showed that senku's hard science knowledge won over gen's soft science skills... which was why gen took the competition so personally
because if gen had paid more attention to senku as a mentalist ought to do, gen could've caught onto senku's real plan TT too bad he isn't as insane as senku

You know the Grimm version of Snow White makes more sense than most versions if only because in that version Snow White was like 7 years old.

Unpopular opinions about Jane Austen?(Books and/or movies---it's all up to you!)
THANK YOU FOR ASKING <3
Pride and Prejudice
I don’t know if this qualifies as an unpopular opinion but here is a reading of P&P that I don’t see as much. And that is: before Lizzy even meets Darcy she’s already heartbroken on some level and Darcy’s comment to Bingley about her being “tolerable enough” stings her so deeply not just because it wounds her pride but because it reminds her of how right she is to be heartbroken.
Lizzy understands that her happiness and financial security, her safety essentially, rest entirely upon her ability to marry well, to marry comfortably at the very least. She knows that her own personal happiness depends on being free to marry for love. The odds of Lizzy personally finding someone who is suitable financially and socially who would willingly choose her (1 of 5 sisters, meagre fortune, no title etc.) AND make her happy are astronomically low.
And all of this depends on factors that are largely outside of Lizzy’s control- like how pretty she is, the timing of rich young men who happen to be in town, who happen to notice her etc. etc. And the factors that are in her control- her behavior, her shrewdness, how willing she is to play the game demanded of her by society- all go directly against her principles and her personality. So things are bleak. And Lizzy can joke about it all she wants and find the delight in the ridiculous of that situation but it isn’t a good thing. And it’s killing her. Happiness, real happiness, AND financial security are equally out of her reach.
Darcy shows up. And he is everything she is ready to hate because he is exactly the person whose opinion of her will matter the most because he has and represents everything she needs to be happy; he’s the embodiment of her frustration with the system. He is rich; he is powerful; he is good-looking. He can marry wherever he likes because as a man and as a rich one he does not have to worry about his fortune or status getting in the way. Of course, if you know Darcy from the inside you know he has problems too but Lizzy can’t see that.
ANYWAY the point is, this man, tHIS MAN, is exactly the one she overhears talking about how she isn’t pretty enough to dance with. And not pretty enough to dance with is not pretty enough to marry and marriage is the only option and etc. etc. Because of one man’s casual and dismissive comment on her looks, her entire hope of happiness disappears in an instant. And this is before Lizzy has even decided necessarily how she feels about him, or whether or not she was going to try to win him over! But it doesn’t matter. He reminds her casually and unintentionally how much power he has to decide her fate, how much her happiness rests in the hands of men like him.
And so she laughs at it and jokes with Charlotte about it and makes fun of it to Jane but honestly I think it KILLS her, because the whole reality kills her and that’s where so much of her anger comes from and is why she’s so ready to believe Wickham and why she isn’t ready to understand where he’s coming from at all or see any of his actions in the best light. Because she isn’t just angry with him, but angry with the whole reality and with her helplessness.
This comes from a conversation I had with @ihaveonlymydreams about it and she’s one of the people who has helped me realize that Darcy’s comment is a far more painful line for Lizzy to hear than just the slight to her looks makes it seem, which, let’s be real, underneath everything must also sting. I grew up on P&P and so I’ve always focused on the FUN of everything. But it’s not just about the fun of Darcy saying that and then falling for her so soon after or even about the charming way Lizzy brushes it off/laughs about it and how THAT affects Darcy too. It’s about how much that stings because it represents how helpless and powerless she is and how much depends on something as shallow as her being pretty enough to dance with.

Gotta say, the absolute best part of the Athenide AUs, especially the twins AU, is seeing how the mythos changes for the better for people like Asclepius, Dionysus and the demigods as a whole. It's just really wholesome and I'm so here for it. @chaoticdumbassrogue in particular inspired me to read the actual myths. It got me thinking about how the scope of change could be expanded to cover the older gods like Hephaestus or Ares, whose bad home lives have already happened.
What if Percy and Annabeth are reborn earlier in the timeline as children of Kronos and Rhea?
Now obviously that's an AU which will get off to a rocky start really quickly, but I think it has potential for some really nice interactions. Like, what if Percy is Zeus' older twin who is raised alongside him, giving Zeus a good influence to aspire to during the formative years of his life. Part of me headcanons that in PJO, his behaviour is a product of being raised by people who he can order about and his only example of how to lead being Kronos himself. Now imagine if he has a cool older sister (or two, if Annabeth/Arsione is also around) who can set better examples for him? Another idea is to tie them closer to Othrys. The idea that Kronos was particularly evil versus the remainder of the Greek pantheon is a somewhat modern idea, the Ancient Greeks viewed him as at least equal to the Olympians if not somewhat better, and the idea of him ruling over a Golden Age were real to them. Hesiod even wrote that Zeus eventually released him from Tartarus and let him rule over Elysium in the Underworld. He is also identified with Saturn thanks to Greco-Roman syncretism, and Saturn is straight up benevolent.
So what if, upon learning his latest child was a goddess of loyalty, he refrains from consuming her in the mistaken belief that she was incapable of betraying him? I'm just imagining Percy as the little Princess of Othrys running around with a young Pallas and Leto and getting into all sorts of mischief before helping her brother Zeus free the remainder of her siblings.
Now imagine what this means for Zeus' children, who now have a cool aunt to give them lots of affection? Hephaestus has somebody who loves him implicitly, Ares has somebody who will actually care when he's trapped in a bronze jar for an entire year, the demigods have somebody who can actually stand up to Hera and so forth.

Mortal Poseidon AU
Why is it in fics when Zeus discovers Percy's existence early, it's always Sally who gets killed off as punishment? Why not Zeus punishing Poseidon by turning him mortal? It's not like it's the first time he did that. Plus, makes more sense to me than why Apollo got turned mortal in TOA. Maybe, Zeus punishes Poseidon by making him mortal until the great prophecy is over, be it the sea spawn or someone else's.
Imagine mortal Poseidon awkwardly knocking on Sally's door with a sheepish look on his face, explaining what happened and asking her for help and a place to stay and in return he'll help with raising Percy and keep him out of trouble. And ofc, Sally helps him. She still loves him afterall. Also, Poseidon flirts with her, saying how thankful he is, and saying how wonderful she is.
Imagine little Percy being confused at seeing a new guy in their living room, making his mom laugh. Sally introduces Poseidon as Percy's dad, he finally was found after being lost in sea for years! (Poseidon raised an amused eyebrow at that, but played along) Percy is ofc ecstatic! He's so happy his dad returned! Also, It means mom wouldn't have to date that weird stinky man she met at the store!
So, yeah. The first few weeks of them living in a tiny apartment. Sally working during the day, teaching Poseidon how to clean and cook and normal mortal things he doesn't know by night. Poseidon trying to get used to being a mortal while trying his best to protect Percy when walking his son to school and back, thankful that he had the foresight to assign some loyal Cyclops to watch over his son so he was able to get a decent weapon from them.
A typical day for him is waking up to Sally softly shaking him awake as she's about to leave for work, Poseidon taking a quick shower to energize himself and get started with preparing Percy's school bag, packing up the homework they did together last night, and a quick ham and cheese sandwich and juice box for lunch, before waking up his son in fun ways, such as, tickling him awake, or pulling his blankets away, etc. 'cooking' breakfast aka 2 bowls of cereal (for now until he learns more), amusedly watching his son run around trying to get ready for school, making sure he has his weapon hidden on him, walking his son to his primary school, waving him goodbye at the gates, patrol the area for monsters and slay them before they get to close, try and practice any of his powers, Zeus didn't take them all, since he still gets healed and energized by water. Talk to the river nymphs to pass on messages to Atlantis, just updates on how he's doing, pick up his son from school, visit Sally in the candy shop with Percy, go home, help Percy with homework, with a lot of water and sea comparisons, 'help' Sally with making dinner (her teaching him how to cook), listening to Percy retell what happened in school during dinner, watching Sally tuck in Percy for the night, and repeat.
Maybe Percy saw his dad slay a monster when they were walking home, maybe a hellhound got too close, and is ofc, scared and confused. But his dad saved him so he trusts him. And Poseidon promised to explain what happened once Sally is home with them, they'll explain together. And Percy, frustrated at being asked to wait, but reluctantly agreed, he wants his mom anyways after that scare, stayed close to dad the rest of the walk, eyeing every alleyway, paranoid.
When Sally got home, Poseidon pulled her aside and explained what happened, telling her that they need to explain to Percy what he is, and that he needs to start going to camp. Ofc, Sally refuses, she'll agree to explaining that monsters are real and that Percy needs to be careful, but not to camp, he's only 8 yrs old! Why can't Poseidon just protect her baby like he said he will? Poseidon points out that Percy needs to learn how to protect himself someday, and he can't be with him all the time, like in school, and, how about a compromise? Percy goes to camp once per week, maybe on Saturdays, he'll even let Sally inside the barrier to oversee Percy's training, once he talked with Chiron about the arrangement. Plus, there's a 8 yr old girl in camp that just joined last year, maybe Percy can have a friend that understands his troubles? And Sally reluctantly agrees. Once a week, and she gets to watch.
So, they explained everything to Percy, that monsters are real, he's a demigod, and dad is/was a god, and that he's sorry for leaving them, but it was the Law, and that he needs to go to Camp to learn how to fight monsters.
Once in camp, Annabeth got curious at the new kid who's her age, who has his mom and dad with him, with Chiron bowing to the dad, and answering the mom's questions. The dad, somehow, agreed to be the water fighting instructor, for once a week when his child was at camp, and the mom gets to supervise his camp activities. The new kid doesn't sleep in any cabin since he always went home after campfire with his parents. Annabeth, determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, started to go out of her way to talk to him. And slowly became friends with him. Once Annabeth told him how she loved playing with Legos, Percy brought his small bucket of Legos with him the following week to play with her. Once, Percy complained about a history essay he had to finish by Monday, and Annabeth helped him write it in between their (ahem) 'child-level' training. (They're 8! Way too young for the normal training level.)
Poseidon cheekily waving hi to Dionysus, enjoying being in the presence of kids who think he's so cool, and able to leave camp whenever, only teaching once a week and able to freely interact with his kid.
Sally bringing cookies for Percy and his new friend Annabeth to snack on in-between studying and training, the one who has a box of colorful bandages for small cuts and bruises, not serious enough for nectar/ambrosia/medbay, (Chiron warned her that too much will burn them up literally, and it's easier to overdose with how small they are, so, iodine and bandages for scrapes and bruises for now) and a camera to record her baby's achievements no matter how small. First time canoeing with dad? Snap! First time wearing armor? Snap! First time campfire s'mores with Annabeth? Snap!
This! Gods, I have so many ideas for this au. Please, if anyone writes this, please tag me.

You are My Sunshine
This was inspired by a comment made on my last video by @Regnumveritatis . I can imagine Athenide singing you are my sunshine’ to Asclepius as a baby and that lullaby becoming sooooo sad after he’s gone and before he comes back and ascends.
