Here is the story! taken from Mac’s autobiography ‘All The Rage’ - chapter 10, ‘The Bubble Bursts’.

“November 13th, Sandy and I threw some clothes in a bag and made a dash for Heathrow to catch a plane to Athens for a short but well-earned holiday. When I handed my passport in at Immigration, the officer looked me up and down a couple of times before he said, Would you step this way, sir?'

I had no choice but to follow him into an office, where he gave me a body search. He went straight for my nuts, where he found the small piece of hash I had hidden in my underpants.

What do you call this?'

'Cannibal's Raisins, I thought, but replied with a straight face,

'Cannabis.

In my imagination I could hear the cell door shutting with a clang. So much for our holiday in Greece, but worse, there goes my freedom.

I tried to figure out what I would tell Mum and Dad, presuming they didn't hear it from the press first. Eventually I was formally charged with smuggling, because having shown my passport I was legally outside England when they searched me. Then a local copper took me to West Drayton police station where I was charged with possession of a controlled substance, not that I possessed it any more.

The bubble had burst. From a state of elation over completing the record, I now found myself at the hands of the local Old Bill, being questioned about where I'd scored the demon drug, as if I was going to give them the name of a friend. They wouldn't tell me where Sandy was, and I wasn't in the mood to piss around with a lot of fresh-faced coppers, so I told them I wasn't going to say anything until I phoned my manager. Finally, when they realized they were wasting their time, they let me call Andrew [Oldham] who told me to sit tight, not to worry, and that he'd handle everything.

…

A couple of hours later, Andrew, on a rescue mission and smelling an opportunity to cash in on the free publicity, turned up at the police station wearing his customary shades and a stoned smile. He paid my bail, they gave me my belt and shoe laces back and I was in the Roller puffing on a joint before we left the police station car park. … . After the short chat we drove up to Immediate's offices to regroup. The guys were all there, buzzing around me and demanding to know all the details. Steve thought it was a good laugh and, like Andrew, thought it was good for business as long as it wasn't him being nicked, but I wasn't so thrilled. …

After a joint and a drink, Eddie drove us to Gered Mankowitz's studio for a photo shoot. An odd thing to do, but Andrew wanted to capitalize on the situation. In fact, it was a release for me, and I had a much needed laugh giving the camera two big V' signs.”
