anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

Some sketches of my milkmaid warlock, Mamilda that I never posted. Aggie the bullywug necromancer is resting on Mamilda's lap after having to bring our paladin back to life. Tabitha is getting healed. The baby is Mamilda's son, Caleb who was 12 at the start of the campaign. Last pic is when we were trapped in an endless misty fairy realm.

I had an old slab I needed to use up and I managed to use ALL of it for this mosaic with only 3 5/8” squares missing! Got all the wood pieces and 5/9 of the inner panels decorated!
#wip#ceramics#pottery#mosaic#art tile#technically also missing the base and the top design but I expected that#the fitting for that is less fiddly so I don’t mind rolling a new slab#that slab has been hanging over my head and I’m very pleased I wasted very little of it

What is the process behind the dnd art tile? Specifically with the raised portions if you don’t mind my asking
Ya I love talking about process! I went over pretty much everything here but I'll put all that under the cut
TL;DR Raised portions were cut from a 1/4" slab, scored, slipped, added to the main 1/2" tile, and then carved
This started as a slab rolled to 1/2" on a slab roller. I also rolled a 1/4" slab. I designed my tile and traced the whole design onto a piece of heavy plastic with a sharpie. Then I traced it onto the clay by laying the plastic flat onto the 1/2" slab and drawing over the design with a skewer. I cut this out using a ruler, pizza cutter, and a cookie cutter (for the corners). I did the same tracing method with the chains, the wing, and the bat on the 1/4" slab. I cut out the chains with an x-acto blade in 3 sections. I scored and slipped these and attached them to the tile where they belonged. I started to carve out the shapes of the chains with a small square loop tool.

After carving the chains for a while I cut out the wing and bat. I scored and slipped them to the tile and carved away at them until the root of the wing and the base of the bat were flush with the tile.

When I was happy with the chains I painted them with a mix of red clay slip and red iron oxide. I carved further around them with a fineline loop tool. I used the same tool to carve some feathers in the wing.

After this I painted in my figure with black underglaze. The details in her coat were carved in with the fineline tool. After this it went in for its bisque fire.

This is how it looked when it came out! I painted the chains with a mix of underglazes (Amaco terra cotta, and teddybear brown) and more red iron oxide all of which I wiped away. These were added again selectively after the wipe. I painted Mayco Dragon's Breath glaze where I wanted darker colors on the un-rusted chains and then added Spectrum Wrought Iron glaze on top. I coated the rest of the tile with a low fire clear glaze. Through test tiles I knew that if I put the Wrought Iron too close to clear glaze it would turn the clear glaze blue. The black carving around the chains is partially to create a a barrier between the two glazes. The tile was fired again at bisque temperature. Because this is a mid fire clay with a low fire clear glaze, the clear glaze crazed. I blocked off the areas I wanted to stay white with liquid frisket and painted india ink onto the tile very carefully, one section at a time. Then I wiped off the excess ink with a cotton swap. The ink fell into the cracks in the glaze making a fake raku crackle effect!
That's pretty much it!
#I could just talk about process all day lol#ceramics#pottery#art tile#I wish I'd put more wrought iron on but I really didn't like how the bluish hue looked#I'm in test tile hell again rn#Hopefully one of the 7 I just put in looks good lol
