I've been following your blog for a while because I love Billy and Teddy, obviously, but I was away from social media for so long that I didn't get the news until today. Billy will show up in the MCU and I hate it 😭 I hate the actor they cast I hate that he's not Jewish I hate the MCU in general and please nooo

I completely get you and understand how you feel.

As you may have seen, I've not been active as much anymore because I feel rather hopeless and drained about their future. There's a lot of toxicity coming from MCU/Heartstopper fans right now and every bit of news or new content we get seemingly just makes it worse.

Billy's actor is possibly one of the worst choices that could have happened. Firstly, as you said, he is not Jewish. Antisemitism is continuously on the rise, and to lose a Jewish character who's so attuned to his (ethnic) heritage and faith is heartbreaking. And even if they make Joe play a Jewish Billy, it'll just be some random line or a prop in the background, which is just an insult in another font. It's especially heartbreaking because Billy is a character who explicitly connects both his homosexuality and faith. Billy is, in many ways, groundbreaking imo because he's so unapologetic about who he is.

Another fact that makes me hate this casting even more, is that BILLYTEDDY is NOT Hearstopper. This weird convergence of characters going on right now is honestly insulting and scares me. A giant number of new fans will see Billy as an alternate universe Charlie and they'll force Teddy as Nick. And I am incredibly scared because Nick is bi and Teddy is gay. I don't want that to mix. Billy and Teddy as gay heroes saved my life. I'm scared that this is all going to break apart very soon.

And that shockingly bad Infinity Comic continuation just makes it worse because it portrays them as a weak and cheating couple so breaking them apart for new storylines is a real possibility at this point.

I actually disagree. It‘s the laziest option because Teddy chose it for that very reason.

What we know of Teddy‘s time before the Young Avengers is that he did not fit in at all. He was small and nerdy and was teased for that. Then he found Greg, who he most likely fell in love with. Greg was a football star and represented everything that Teddy wanted to be aka. accepted, praised, admired and attractive. These were the traits that made him fall in love with the idea of Greg and football, as the most stereotypical jock sport, fits that idea perfectly.

That‘s why he‘s good at football. He imitated Greg, changed his appearance and personality to fit the stereotype of a successful jock. He does NOT belong on the football team because he‘s not himself while being part of the team but he still plays.

It‘s a perfect backstory for a gay boy who knows he‘ll never be like the guys he admires. Often gay men/boys desperately try anyway.

I imagine he quits after finding Billy.

His self-acceptance is symbolized by growing his hair out and getting his piercings. He breaks out of Greg‘s mold and becomes his own person. That‘s also when he probably left football behind because he had Billy at that point, who accepted him exactly like he was.

as a society we must accept the fact that teddy playing baseball makes more sense than him playing football. like okay, you want to make him a varsity jock. i get it. but football is the laziest option and let me tell you he does NOT belong on the football team. however being on the baseball team DOES make sense AND feeds into his sword man status. down with the qb teddy agenda UP with the baseball teddy agenda

Wiccan & Hulkling: The Last Annihilation Spoiler Review

THIS IS WHY BILLY AND TEDDY ARE MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME!!!

After reading Wiccan & Hulkling: KING IN BLACK I was so dissatisfied with their story and characterisation that it made me question my love for these characters. This time, however, I couldn’t be more happy with what Anthony Oliveira has written. He has shown here, without a doubt, that he knows these characters and what makes them special.

It also refutes one of the flimsiest arguments I have heard about them: that they are nothing but a unit and cannot function separately. Here, both Billy and Teddy work really well on their own. They have great interactions with other characters. Teddy‘s talk with Phyla stands out as an exceptionally beautiful detail. It was beautiful and I am so happy that Teddy could connect to his family. Billy can also stand well on his own and plays well off of Mur-G’nn and Abigail, who lies to him like there’s no tomorrow. An nice but much needed surprise was also to see that Billy has embraced who he is. His bullies couldn’t bring him down, Loki couldn’t, and Dormammu sure as hell wont.

And while they can very well stand on their own, the beautiful thing about their relationship is that they are, ultimately, stronger together. Even when apart, the other is never far away. And THE RINGS!!!! I CANNOT STOP GUSHING OVER IT! This is so romantic an poetic. A perfect metaphor for their relationship that was an integral part of the plot. I cannot express ho much this means to me! They can be separated but their love always connects them. And we finally get to see a proper proposal. I am crying so much😭

And their „origin story“ was all I was hoping it to be. It is sweet and nerdy and exactly how it should have been done. It‘s sweet and shy and hits all the beats I imagined. It was also true to life because I have been in Billy‘s place. You become quiet, reclusive and it takes someone special to show you your worth. And Teddy was/ is that someone for him. They bond over their love for comics and I adore the original YA detail that Teddy is still somewhat hung up on the asshole of assholes, Greg Norris. And Teddy‘s mom was the sweetest little angel. I have to smile while writing this because I can just imagine how happy she was for Teddy when he was mooning over Billy. And Billy waiting for Teddy after watching the game was so soft, all the while wrapped in Teddy‘s scarf. THIS IS ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!

We also finally get confirmation on Teddy‘s real appearance and it couldn’t have been done more perfectly. Teddy is neither this, nor that. HE IS TEDDY KAPLAN-ALTMAN, AND THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!

I also have to add, Noh and Herc are the most adorable little couple. Their bickering is so cute and Herc carrying him around, both grinning like idiots as all worlds fall apart, is the perfect himbo symbiosis I wanna see. GIMME MORE NOH AND HERC!!!

Marvel‘s Voices: Young Avengers #2 Review:

This issue made me really emotional! I never thought we‘d get to see a story like this, but Teddy had a chance to reunite with his mother again. Teddy‘s mom has always been special in the comics to me because her unconditional love for Teddy formed Teddy into the kind and compassionate ruler he is now. Teddy‘s pain for his mother‘s death was sadly ignored in Young Avengers Volume II to re-hash Billy‘s depression that had been resolved in Children‘s Crusade already but now Teddy‘s feelings are finally center-stage.

In the newer comics, Teddy’s creation sometimes just felt like he was intended as a bargaining chip for races at war, but hearing that his mom and his biological mom never wanted him to lead this life laid that to rest.

Moreover, we finally see the return of Teddy‘s Hulkling form. Since he accepted his heritage he has become green, which I love, but he‘s not HULKling anymore. In the first Young Avengers and Children‘s Crusade Teddy embraced his super skrull form and I miss that. His powers mostly go ignored since he got Excelsior. I really want to see more of this!!!

Teddy isn’t alone in this, of course, Billy is there to support him. And since Teddy‘s mom is only there because of a time paradox, we have a nice little callback to The Last Annihilation where she asked Billy to take care of Teddy and now he asks her to do the same for her timeline. Aaaand, she liked Billy so much apparently that she taught him a secret recipe.

Billy also reaffirms their ever-lasting love for each other which is reassuring after the absolute mess that was the Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity comic.

Billy holding a baby Teddy and bonding with him is weird but also very sweet because you really see how gentle he is and there are also seeds planted for maaaybe some children of their own someday.

Further seeds are planted for Billy‘s eventual demiurge storyline. I‘m still not fond of it but I trust Oliveira to know what he‘s doing.

I think I don’t have much more to say except thank you with all my heart Mr. Oliveira. We can feel your love for these characters and I hope you‘ll have many more opportunities to write them. But please pay attention to the weird sides of the Demiurge lore.
