YES! A thousand times, yes!!

I fear that this is the exact reason Tokyo Revengers is one of my favorite animes of all time. I was admittedly hesitant to start watching because I thought it was just the generic thing of all fights and no actual connection but it immediately proved me wrong.

Also the first ever anime to make me actually cry. Season 2 (Mikey's death) I literally felt the sob in my throat. And it takes quite a bit to even not make me feel indifferent towards a character so that's how you know I was ATTACHED.

people criticize the writing and they do have occasional points here and there but I will always thank the author for creating Tokyo Revengers. 🙏

HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD

people don't recognize tokyo revengers for what it really is.

i feel as though people don’t speak enough about ’love’ in tokyo revengers. i understand tokyo revengers for what it is as an animanga: angsty, dramatic and filled with action. i am aware of the kind of animanga tokyo revengers is, but i truly wished it was spoken about more how much of a love story tokyo revengers is.

there is so many different examples throughout the animanga that showed genuine love. whether or not it was platonic, familial or romantic, there are so many different kind of relationships throughout the series that i feel aren’t spoken about enough for how they truly are and are unmistakably overshadowed by the angst of the series.

like, takemichi and mikey for example. they were destined to meet since they were mere first graders, as shown when takemichi was given the time traveling power by shinichiro at a young age. whether you ship them or not, they are soulmates, platonic or romantic. takemichi’s mission went from saving hina, to saving his friends, to being unable to stop until he saved mikey. he abandoned his own wedding and got himself murdered solely to see mikey once more so that he could save him. even as his last words were spoken in the kanto arc after being stabbed with a katana by mikey, he still solemnly swore that no matter how many times it took, he would save him, mikey, the man who killed him in that timeline.

or, like draken and emma. it was obvious from the early animanga that she was in love with draken, and did things in desperation hoping that he would notice her, recognize her want and need for him. emma died believing that draken didn’t love her, and draken died thinking about emma and his friends as his final thoughts. the entire time, draken reciprocated her feelings despite his obliviousness to her advancements on him.

you could also use kakucho and izana as a good example. again, whether or not it is platonic or romanticly the way you view them together, i believe they were still meant to be. i feel their trope was overshadowed, the fact that kaku never supported or believed anything izana did or wanted was good, but did anything he wanted without questioning because he’s devoted to him. it’s so different from most tropes, and that i truly enjoy about them. izana died to save kakucho, his ’servant’, because kaku was the only person he felt he could truly consider someone he loves and cares about, as the only person he truly has in his life being him. kaku died thinking about being together with izana again two years after the incident.

or the haitani brothers and the kawata twins. the haitani brothers are always together, always going as to ’match’ each other in some sort of way and to stand out from the rest. the way ran screamed rindou’s name in the tenjiku arc when angry was about to hurt him showed genuine concern and fear for his little brother. smiley was worried about angry because he knew he would cry, even if smiley wasn’t there. they are brothers, they care about eachother most in the world. they come in duos and shouldn’t be seperated.

even kisaki and hanma can be used as an example of love, whether romantic or platonic, either way. even if it was silly, hanma’s interest in kisaki grew more with each event that happened. the way hanma cried for the first time when he saw kisaki’s death showed his genuine care for him, even if kisaki saw him as only a pawn for him to use.

mikey and baji, draken and mitsuya, pah-chin and peh-yan, kazutora and baji, chifuyu and baji, izana and shinichiro, akkun and takemichi, kokonoi and inui. i could list so many more duos that are undervalued for their love stories, platonic, familial and romantic alike.

fuck, shinichiro literally killed someone in desperation just for things to be better in the original timeline, to see emma again, to see mikey smile.

there is so many fantastic examples of true and genuine love in tokyo revengers and i wish it wasn’t so ignored and overshadowed by peoples beliefs, headcanons, views and just the general angst of the story of tokyo revengers.

i truly wish it was spoken about more of how tokyo revengers is more than just an angsty action story about takemichi, who time trvaeled to save his former love and gained new friends on the way.

it’s more than that. it’s a story about love, family and hurt. and that alone needs to be valued way more than it really is in the fandom.

and i know that this can be seen as ’my own opinion’ and ’my own belief’, and i can accept that for what it is, because it is my opinion and my belief on tokyo revengers. but if you just payed attention to see these things you would realize it too.

tokyo revengers is a story about love. yes, it includes angst, action, fantasy and more but it is an overall story about love. more people need to realize that.

as someone who hasn't even finished the anime (I started it like three years ago 😭) and never even touched the manga, I can confirm that as soon as season 4 episode 8 dropped all hell broke loose. hate pages IMMEDIATELY created and Gabi's name on the top of every "most hated anime characters" lists. it was so bad. can't even blame you for distancing yourself.

especially because most of their reasoning is that she killed Sasha. hold your grudges for a war like thing happening during war ig.

will always reiterate that it's okay to not like a character but harassing and sending death threats to people who do is NOT. 🙅‍♀️

I know some people share the idea that he would never become a parent which is valid but I've seen some wild claims floating around. Mainly that a lot of people believe he would be an Endeavor 2.0 😭

The problem is that America has beaten down its people for decades and gotten them weak and desperate and now promises a way out, a way to transcend and rise above, through selling out their fellow man. They encourage contempt and hatred as one way ticket to not being included with the masses being death marched to poverty or whatever other bitter end surely awaits the people they’re told are beneath them. An embarrassingly large chunk of white men are just straight up nazis these days as a way to dissociate from the rest of the carnage around them, even if they’re broke and uneducated and from an impoverished background themselves. They’ll vote for and align themselves with anything for a taste of power and control that makes them feel a little less helpless. The same goes for minorities. They’ll punch down if they think it’ll get them somewhere, even if in reality they’re punching sideways. I don’t know what else to say, really. Everybody is so incredibly hateful. We are a loveless, disrespectful nation. We are so spread thin by our government that we would sell each other out in a heartbeat for an ounce of relief. This is what we’ve come to.

It’s not even about Trump at this point. He’s gonna get in office and do whatever he does and it’s gonna be a mess but whatever. This is indicative of deeper problem. This is just the ugly consequence of the already present reality in this country that we all just despise each other. There is no solidarity and there is no love. Trump being in office or not doesn’t change the fact that America is a breeding ground for violent hatred. Trump has given people a shining example of how to give in to the worst parts of your human nature and make it the problem of everyone around them. I don’t even know what we’re supposed to do about that. I don’t know if that’s something we can come back from. And if anything COULD be done about it, Trump certainly wouldn’t do it. Honestly, Kamala probably wouldn’t have either. We are so deeply fucked.

However, I must say, if you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you. Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.

Love yall. Shit is so bleak but the world keeps spinning until it doesn’t, I guess. We can’t count on the government for literally even a shred of progress or hope so just keep up the good fight in your own personal lives. That’s literally the only thing to be done at this point. Stay safe out there. Maybe buy a gun.

'my gods,' you giggled, but didn't make any complaints as you walked into his arms. percys hugs were always the best; and not just because he's your boyfriend. hugging him reminds you that a person can be a home, or at least a safe place.
