Welcome to my 2021 favourites. Just a tiny disclaimer: I read over 500 fics in just the last 6 months of 2021 so if your fic isn't included on this list that doesn't mean I didn't like it, choosing just 10 fics was SO hard! But here are 10 of the fics that stayed with me the most and I truly hope everyone has a happy 2022 💕

9. En Pointe by Oh_i_swear @oh-i-swear-writes [Stucky, 8,2k words, Teen]

Bucky Barnes is an ex-professional ballet dancer now running his own dance school. He's kind, compassionate and clearly cares about the kids in his class and their dreams and goals - most of which involve getting to the stage where they can dance en pointe.

Steve Rogers is a perfectionist and owns En Pointe, the dance wear store nearest to Bucky's dance studio. It's almost light a right of passage when the kids in Bucky's class get to visit the store, not only because they finally get their pointe shoes, but because they get to see the infamous squabbling between Mr Barnes and Mr Rogers who clearly rub each other up the wrong way.... but is everything as it seems?

10. Chef's Kiss by Kalee60 @kalee60 [Stucky, 8,7k words, Teen]

Bucky Barnes was expecting a quiet Christmas. With a cancelled flight home and time off from his demanding job, his most exciting immediate plans involved an eggnog binge with his best friend Darcy.

But when Captain America stumbles into the Stark kitchens, bruised, battered and seemingly in need of company, what can Bucky do but help turn his Christmas around. And in the process, maybe find a little Christmas miracle for himself…

Steve Rogers cares about a lot of things, but dating isn’t one of them – much to his fellow Avengers’ bemusement. It’s just never been very high on his list of priorities, falling somewhere behind his work, his friends, his hobbies, and that excellent pepperoni pizza from Vinnie’s on Flatbush Ave.

That is until one night, Natasha drags Steve out to a charity music concert by some hotshot singer that Steve has never actually heard of (which would surprise exactly no one, seeing as Steve is still partial to his records and his radio plays). And as soon as Steve lays eyes on Grammy-award winning musician and international heartthrob James Barnes for the very first time, suddenly he wonders if maybe dating wouldn’t be so bad after all. Dating James Barnes, specifically, that is. The question is just: how does one go about that? Especially one like Steve, who’s never wooed anybody in his century-long life, let alone a man. Let alone a man with long, dark hair, tattoos all over his arms, and a fanbase that rivals Steve’s own.

It’s not like he can just go up to him and say something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"

Bro the treatment of Bucky as a character is lacking, they do not deal with his trauma at all, just chuck him to some mandatory therapy (with some shit ass therapist) and he gets arrested if he doesn’t attend. He’s a POW, a wwii hero and Cap’s best friend and he’s still treated as unstable.

Meanwhile Clint is a poorly written character in the MCU anyways and he gets forgiven for going off willingly in his right mind??? I completely agreed with everything Yelena said. Clint got off so easy for no reason, and I don’t really see how he’s a hero in this scenario at all (not to mention I wanna sucker punch J*reny).

Anyways Marvel isn’t good enough to deal with a character where they should dig deep into his emotional side and let him heal realistically, look what they did to Steve and his depression and how they completely fucked up his character in the end and completely undid every development he had since TWS.

Sorry for the rant, I just think Steve and Bucky should officially only be written by the fandom

The forest is once again quiet, the ivy growing over the ground and on the trunks of the trees less vibrant now than back in the summer months. Do you ever just get sooo mad because Angie + Peggy literally had THE potential to be a canon gay couple in the MCU? Like... Peggy was created as Steve's love interest so in tfa not many local fans actually cared about her. And she was old while Steve was not for the rest of the franchise so their relationship for all steggy supporters was irrelevant. Then there's the fact that Agent Carter catered to a specific and extremely niche fandom. Everyone who watched probably really cared about Peggy since it wasn't connected to the larger films like agents of shield was (and aos got a lot more viewership and they had a very minor gay guy) Peggy even kissed another woman s1 and the world DIDNT end! in 2016!! Like it wasn't their big money maker and def wouldn't get the same reaction as if they like made Steve or tony canon gay on screen from fans. Because no shade to Peggy but like I said it was a very niche audience. If they took an L it wouldn't have mattered as much. Like it was all set up, the actors were onboard and shipped it, most of the fans were into it... the history fit PERFECTLY so nothing would have felt forced. Like it's just so... tragic? If the show had come out now, post cyrus goodman for disney, post harlivy hbo/canon couple in GCS, post wonderwoman and captain marvel idk I feel like it would have just been the obvious romance? And like you had the fan support, the historical support, the actors support. It sucked that lyndsey couldn't be there for s2 but then they gave us Wilkes which like great rep good character but not at all what any of us asked for and then they just threw her in with Sousa randomly bc they probably knew they weren't getting renewed and like then they killed her off and maybe in a post B99 world someone would have picked up the show and done it justice or if it had been on Netflix it could have been even MORE potentially gay after one day at a time and everything sucks and now she got relegated to an end credit scene where she has no lines and is forever defined by her relation with Steve instead of anything else like it had so much potential and it's just so sad
