Getting kinda excited for the new pokemon game trailer so i ended up drawing Mihawk with pokemon while testing a new lineart technique :3

Personally, i don’t think Mihawk would capture pokemon on his own (I’d believe he would take the Pokémon’s place in a pokemon fight) but I have some pretty funny ideas on how he got some.

First the Honchkrow is a gag gift from Shanks, since they both have the same ‘hat’. He named her “Mini Mihawk” and the red-head sailed away before Mihawk even knew about it, and Mihawk can’t change it (trading rules) so he just calls her ‘Minnie’ for short. She’s the only official pokemon he has. She’s mostly independent, coming and going as she pleased but she does help around when Mihawk is gardening, if only to eat the Caterpies and Wurmples.

The next one is a Chandelure (One of my favs) and she came with the castle. Her quiet nature lent a hand in a peaceful cohabitation so Mihawk never had to chase her out. Plus Minnie would get a healthy dose of exercise from the Chandelure so Mihawk thought it was a good idea to keep her around. They spend time together at night, when Mihawk is reading Chandelure would lend her light.

And lastly the Ceruledge…

They met when Mihawk was attacking a marine fleet, the charcadet’s previous owner had thrown it at Mihawk in fear but the charcadet already worshiped the marine hunter’s prowess, having seen Mihawk easily slice the ship in half. He kinda just follows Mihawk around and it hasn’t stopped since, not even when he evolved into a Ceruledge. Mihawk is just fed up with him after years of abrupt pokemon fights but before Mihawk could land any serious blows the Ceruledge would just sneak away and come back later, trying to get Mihawk to accept him.

Aaaah I'm obsessed with Hunter's shelter au!!! Can you tell us more about the concept? How did you come up with it? I love your work.

Tysm for reaching out! The Hunter's Shelter AU is basically a modern fantasy setting where there are hunters and fantasy creatures, as you can guess, but the marines/warlords would be the hunters and the pirates would be the fantasy creatures they try to capture or kill, for example Koby would be a hunter and Luffy would be a shape-shifter, etc.

The Marines operate as a Guild, having bounties and info brokers on said creatures. Hunters aren't exclusively humans, but the ones who aren't usually hide their true nature for their own gain or survival, e.g., a vampire hunter is going for bounties for easier access to blood. An exception to this would be the warlords, since in the anime they were pirates first so i thought it would be fitting. Also, I think their powers would fit certain fantasy creatures very well. For Mihawk, though, I think it would be funny if he was just human. People would assume he's a vampire, but in reality, he's just a human that's REALLY powerful.

The Marines' aim would be to keep the fantasy world a secret or take advantage of it, and the pirates are j trying to survive and live. Some have conflict with the guild and try to fight back, etc, but that's the main setting of this world.

With Hunter's Shelter AU, we follow Mihawk, who is trying to live and provide for 2 kids he found along his hunts. Perona, after a village ostracised her for her psychic abilities and a little Oni, Zoro, who kept ambushing Mihawk for revenge as he j wanted to kill any hunter for his burnt down village.

This AU would just follow their shenanigans as Mihawk does not know what a normal person would do in caring for children, and the kids would obviously have very different needs, (and diets in zoros case) and it's more comedy than anything.

I'm lazy, so that one comic with how Perona and Mihawk met has been collecting dust, but I do want to return to it. It's j that I dont have the best productivity 😭.

I think that swords definitely talk to Mihawk and Zoro like not even just their sword but any sword of worth but especially the "cursed" ones. Like I mean full-sentences talking that only they can hear. And not the general hum of power or bloodlust that people like shanks hear -

And Shanks does not realize that Mihawk means he is having full conversations with his sword when he says Yoru talks to him. Until Mihawk translates something Gryphon says and Shanks is just like 'I'm sorry.....what???"

Shanks: What do you mean you can talk to swords Mihawk: I told you this 🙄 Shanks: I thought you meant like the general humming, Not that they were conversationalists! Mihawk: So did you think all this time I was just talking to myself? Shanks:....I thought it was a symptom of your lonely childhood.....

I think Zoro has to hold the sword to hear it speak but will eventually grow to be like Mihawk where he just has to be in the area to hear it.

I have this mix of parent fantasy au in mind where Mihawk picked up some strays during his hunts and just settles down, trying to help the kids go undercover to school and stuff, i think it’ll be such a funny sitcom situation.

Might make mini comics of this au in the future, but i kinda wanna get better with perspective in art rn oof

So far, “Hunter’s Shelter” is the name i got for this au, but if you guys have suggestions, i’d like to hear them!

I feel so dumb for not knowing that kogatana just means “little sword” shit dawg i thought it was a name 😭

Kinda always assumed that it was a precious blade Mihawk kept, now the name just recontextualise what it is to me, a lil sad but i still love the darn thing so ima just ignore that.
