A Day at the Beach - Gleep Glorp! Nahant Beach Nahant, MA July 19, 2025

Aftonsparv got to visit his first Earthen beach! He didn't like the sand very much because it irritates his antennae, but he did enjoy partaking in an authentic human picnic. He also tried sunbathing, but he doesn't understand what all the hype is about. He did find the isopods fascinating, though, and he found a pretty shell!

While walking around in the water, I happened to pick up a piece of seaweed that was covered in isopods, which set Ari on a mission to find as many as he could. He spent most of the rest of the trip looking for them and bringing handfuls to show me while I kept shooing them off the blanket. The next to the last picture is of him inspecting seaweed for more isopods.

After we ate lunch, a seagull slowly and cautiously approached the edge of the blanket, snatched up a chip crumb, and then scurried away.

Our First Tomato! Worcester, MA July 17, 2025

A co-worker of Ari's rescued about 30 tomato plants from being thrown away (presumably from a garden center, idk) and promptly realized they couldn't handle 30 tomato plants, so we adopted two of them. After a few weeks of diligent watering and one round (so far) of plant food, we have our first baby tomato! Later when I went back out to water them, I realized there were actually two tomatoes on the this plant. I don't know how I missed the second one because it's right next to this one. You can barely see it peeping from behind the branch below my finger.

The black spots you see in the water are seals peeping at us! I'd never seen any in the wild before.

We came prepared to swim, but the water was too chilly, AGAIN. It's July, damn it, why is the water so cold?? Fortunately, I also brought a book and my beach chair and supremely enjoyed reading while listening to the waves.
