I'm sorry to bother and especially if you've got this question a dozen times before but how did you break into the comic industry?

hi!! it’s no bother at all.

I wanted to do a starfire cover rlly bad so I took a long shot and dmed an editor who I was mutuals with on twitter (Hi Andrea 👋). She told me she wasn’t involved with the Titans book but she’ll keep me in mind if anything comes up. It was completely by chance that she got assigned as an editor for Tales of the Titans and she reached out to me to do a starfire cover so ofc i said yes. After that, another editor saw my starfire variant cover and offered me a superboy cover, which was also pretty lucky. It hasn’t been a super consistent thing but I’m incredibly grateful to the DC editors who took a chance with me and i’m proud of the work i’ve done.

So overall it was all luck that things worked out for me. Normally, editors don’t even bother to check their DMs probably cuz they get tons of similar requests. However, you can try cold emailing with some portfolio pieces attached to let them know you’d be interested (you’ll have to do some sleuthing to find some editors emails tho hehe). From what I’ve heard editors don’t mind that sort of stuff and are always open to working with new talent. Even if they don’t have work for you now they might later and keep you in mind when the right opportunity comes. It also helped that I was very specific with my request lol so there’s that.
