The price of vegetables has increased by 20 pounds per kilo and a carton of baby milk by 50 pounds. The price of children's clothes has increased and they are cut off. For most people, the suffering in Gaza might feel like a distant nightmare.

For us, it’s heartbreakingly close to home.

Over the past seven months of writing these stories, we’ve come to know the people behind them—not just as names or fundraisers, but as people. Real human beings, with hopes, dreams, and aspirations, who are truly suffering.

Real people, whose cries for help are being ignored by a cold and unfeeling world.

While we helplessly watch as the world's first livestreamed genocide unfolds in real time in our phone screens, we check our messages every morning with a mix of dread and hope, praying that the people who we've come to see as friends have survived another long, dark night.

This morning, we heard from Hossam Al-Qazzaz.

Hossam, his wife Hanan, and their four children—Bashar (9 years), Hani (8 years), Diana (4 years), and Habiba (9 months)—are currently trapped in an area now dangerously close to evacuation zones that are being actively bombed.

Images: Hossam shared the most recent evacuation warning given to the people in the area he and his family are living in. The Al-Qazzaz family is currently in block 111, and the bombings are only getting closer to them.

A few days ago, Hossam messaged us just after a missile strike, telling us he was going to bravely help transport wounded civilians who were calling out for help from the darkness. Today, he wrote again:

“We are fine my friend, but the bombing does not stop at all and it is everywhere. Many, many of our neighbors have been martyred. We have become afraid to leave our place except for extreme necessity.”

Can you imagine raising small children in that kind of fear? Trying to survive when every trip outside could mean death? The family has already survived long nights of bombing, where they didn’t think they’d see the morning. Now, they are holding out in a rapidly shrinking safe zone, surrounded on all sides by loss.

Pelinal Whitestrake is the wildest character in the Elder Scrolls. He’s a magical cyborg from the future sent back to kill the elves (who at this time were ruling over man as slave masters). He would challenge and decimate elven champions and leaders. He joined Alessia’s army. He hated being compared to a god despite having some divine nature. He had a cute hoplite boyfriend who was killed by the elves, which sent him into such a rage that all eight of the divine had to come to calm him down. This happened more than once. Dude became the Doomguy of elves.

Only died when the elven demi-god guy challenged him and Alessia’s army. The army was cautious considering all the strongest warriors the elves had left, as well as an army of daedra, awaited at the White Gold Tower. Meanwhile, Pelinal said “hold my beer” and went Leroy Jenkins on them. For the first time their weapons actually hurt him (probably because of his future armor, which was plate armor) but the guy kept going. He tore the army to shreds, fought his way to the demi-god Umaril.

They were evenly matched (though Pelinal did just fight through an army and had wounds) but Whitestrake still managed to kill him. Weak from his fight, he mocked his enemy one last time. This sent the remaining elven kings into a rage and they cut him into eight pieces. By the time Alessia’s army arrived, there were just a handful of elves left to kill. Even decapitates, Pelinal still had a long conversation with Morihaus (the man-bull demi-god who had a kid with Alessia). No one knows what they talked about, I only mention it because the dude was in pieces and still conversed.

Also, side note: in place of a heart he had the Amulet of Kings.

From Under the Rubble... I Write My Story 🌿

I never thought I would write these words… 😔

I never imagined waking up to endless screams,

Running barefoot through smoke and fire,

Searching for my mother among the rubble,

Only to find nothing but silence… a heavy silence telling me that no one will answer me anymore. 💔
