Gharials (Gavialis gangeticus) are crocodilians in the family Gavialidae.
They live in freshwater river systems in South Asia. There are fewer than 250 wild gharials. They are classified as critically endangered, due to habitat loss, pollution, and overhunting. Gharials, also called Gavials, feed mostly on fish. They are easily recognized by their long slender snouts, with a knoblike growth on the end.
