I do think that the wiggles have the funniest backstory ever. Like oh to be a family-based pub rock band that makes fun but solidly middle of the road music about girls and young man troubles when one brother scoots off to school to become a preschool teacher and then he comes back and is like. Okay I just made two preschool teacher friends and what if I was a preschool teacher rock band with them. And his brothers said 👍okay. But there was another guy named Jeff who was not a preschool teacher and they said, wait. He could also be in the preschool teacher band. And since he doesn't know anything about being a preschool teacher he can just sleep on stage. 👍 and then they became the greatest children's music group of all time

~The Tibinator~

You might think the Tibinator quibbles too much, But I've observed interesting habits that go as such:

On Saturdays they may dripple - just a little here and there, They love to catch plugners and let them play in their hair.

Sundays call for scrounging up scoundrels for sport, Then snorting snaflax and smelling of all sorts.

Between Sunday and Monday they're bemellowing in gaps, (It's for bismirching gloors and mumping tax.)

But Monday to Thursday is a different story, Severe brishdaw and brawling always ends in glory.

On Friday the Tibinator finally slows down, They galumph, skiddadle, pabot and clown.

Let this be a story that holds real girth, And exists to remind that there's no life without mirth.

no because this would be actually the best thing EVER I love audiobooks so much, and I totally agree on how it would allow for mass collaboration of creative individuals who actually CARE about the media they create, forever fighting against the stream of crappy AI slop 🙌

I love this idea so much lets make this a reality people 🫵

Please, hear me out!!

i just found a Peter Parker fanfic playlist (bless the YouTube algorithm fr) and now i can’t stop thinking about how amazing it would be if fanfic readings or fanfic audiobooks were more common?? like imagine if it was normal to have fics available for audio consumption or if AO3 or other fanfiction sites ever added audio options (i’m not a tech person lol pls don’t come for me on how difficult that would be, i’m just dreaming out loud pls).

anyways, here’s me pleading my case to writers and readers on why i think more people should start recording fics, or let others record them…

Accessibility!!

this would make fics sm more accessible to people with disabilities or neurodivergence or anyone with reading/focus difficulties. Even when people love fanfics it’s not always easy to sit and read them, so listening would go a long way and would reach a wider audience.

Which brings me to my next point…

Convenience!!

i was thinking about that phrase “if there’s a screen, AO3 will be seen”😂 So audiobooks/readings would just be next level, no? You don’t even need a screen, just some earphones🤭. Imagine enjoying fanfic while walking, cleaning, driving, falling asleep etc.

Giving way to more avenues of expression and art in Fandom!!

fanfic is already a creative outlet for so many writers and all kinds of artists. Why not open that space for narrators/voice actors/audio editors too? Especially with AI creeping into everything rn, including voice acting and narration, this could be such a cool and organic way for real fans and real artists to collab and get their passion back.

and the same way writers use fanfic to practice their skills, fanfic readings could be a space for narrators or voice actors to build portfolios, and try new styles, or just enjoy their hobby or passion in a community they love.

Still Anonymous & low effort!!

you don’t need a pro setup for this pls. Your phone mic, or your earphones mic could honestly be enough. And you can still stay totally anonymous, just like fic writers do. No pressure, i think. Also i think there’s so many places to post these already like youtube, and pretty much every app that allows podcasts or it could be an opportunity for our women in stem to come out with maybe a new app or solution for us lol.

PS: if you know of any good youtube channels, playlists, podcasts, creators etc please tag/link/recommend them! and if you’re a writer open to someone reading your work out loud, maybe drop a note somewhere or tag your fic? let’s make this a thing please.❤️ i think it would just be SO COOL if we had more fanfic readings and if fanfic audiobooks were just more common in our fandoms, i wish we had more of them. (This is coming from a neurodivergent fanfic writer who has a stuttering disorder, i wish i could record my own fics or help authors record theirs).

The Dog in the Rose Garden at the End of the World

[CW: moderate gore, animal death].

“It’s dead, Oscar.” He had tripped up the front step before he had fully opened the door, and was now kneeling beside where it was sprawled out amongst the flowers arranged in the pattern of the worn carpet. The hallway was dense with that peculiar, nostalgic feel, pinkish and warm with the late sunlight tumbling in through the transom window. Further along, there was a staircase, again, carpeted and sponged of most of its colour, that led on upwards to someplace else, perhaps to more exhibitions of old domestic life.

And there it lay at the heart of it, drawing flies and drowning out the last of the smell of before.

His dazed fascination had suddenly made him oblivious to everything else as he sat there pensively touching its dark, patchy head, scratching mindlessly at the dirty bristles of fur and encouraging clouds of undisturbed dust to roll in the orange light. Nearly four days without proper food or water in him, and it was really starting to show. His arm looked worse than ever, too, dark with webbed blood clots and clusters of sores welled with yellow in two half-moon shapes clamped around his lower shoulder.

“Oscar, it’s dead,” I repeated, stepping over it. I kicked it twice in the side irritably, for some reason desperate to prove my point. I hated it when I could see the sense leave him, because in those fleeting moments, I truly felt myself become the last man on earth. It rolled over slightly, and he sat back, eyes withdrawing into their familiar state of bareness. “Looks like someone’s beat us here, anyway.” I could make out the wet stumps that glinted under long fur where it’s hind legs should have been. People were eating anything they could find nowadays.

A Victorian female author wrote a book of fanfiction about the childhoods of Shakespeare’s heroines:

Absolutely fascinating.

I am not one to call every work from past that is derivative of something else “fanfiction”. I don’t think that Dante or Shakespeare himself wrote fanfiction.

But I read a sample of this book above. This is fanfiction, this is fanfiction in its purest form. It is delightful.

I am half-tempted to actually buy and read it.
