Yeah, the hyperfixation hit me HARD 😅

I fell in love with that stupid tiger, and as soon as I got back from Houston, I knew I needed to embroider it. So, I pulled out some linen scraps and my flat silks and banged out the thread painted head in about a week. I went off a screenshot with my light board to get the rough shapes and details and then just worked by eye to blend my threads to get the look.

After coming back from Denver, I got the idea on the plane to see if I could find a comfy hoodie to satin stitch it to, and thus, this comfy cosplay is now born! Probably will wait for cooler weather to wear it. But it can join Mabel as my comfy Sunday costumes!

Embroidery is all long and short thread painting in flat silks with Japan Kreinik #1 silver for the whiskers.

I’m learning Chinese rn and every time I read 知道 without fail I think JEDAO???

VERY REAL. my friends and I have taken to translating jedao as 借刀. as you know, translation is 4 parts vibes and 6 parts bullshit, but we have a bit of an explainer here:

A lot of the fun of Chinese linguistics is in the puns and double meanings. 道 ( dào ) for knowledge is one possible interpretation of the back half of his name, but 刀 ( dāo ) is what really caught my eye because that's the word for knife. Combine this with 借 ( Jiè ) for borrow and you get the intonation combination of Jièdāo. 借刀 - Jièdāo, borrowed knife. Weapon of a guy :) Then we get into the idioms, now that we've linked Jedao with knife conceptually. A lot of Chinese idioms depend on splitting a well known two-word phrase into a single constituent word that is meant to represent the whole. Now the following idioms gaining a triple meaning: 借刀殺人 ( Jièdāo shārén ) - to use a borrowed knife to kill. 笑里藏刀 ( Xiàolǐ cángdāo ) - to conceal a knife within a smiling face. The first one is a metaphor for using someone else to cause harm, while concealing your own hand. Kujencore! He did that. The second one describes menace hidden behind an amiable facade. (It also reminded me of the way Jedao's tilted smile bleeds into his anchors.) This is while remembering that ' 借刀 ' and ' 刀 ' are now not only the words for a knife, but also linked to Jedao as his name, so you're also saying 'using Jedao to kill' and 'concealing Jedao within a smile' here. Chinese linguistics is so delightful!
