I got so into the mood to write today then got a parcel for something I was looking forward to and it was super disappointing, now I’m just sad and staring at my notes app with no real drive :(

I sometimes get in a state that I just don’t wanna write anymore for months at a time, and sometimes a single comment is all it takes to drag me out of it and write again. Seeing familiar usernames commenting is also super awesome, and I keep guest comments on so that even if someone doesn’t have an account they can say something, comments are like happiness in a can lol, as much as I don’t wanna rely on them for motivation I can’t really help it

someone I follow on the bird app just announced they're starting a very exclusive private fic server because they and a bunch of other people want to talk about how much they love the fics they're reading, and as an author can I just say that a really great place to talk about a fic you love is in the comments for that fic

I understand that people are trying to create safe spaces, but as the number of comments that I get on my fics dwindles with each passing year, knowing these spaces exist where my fics are being discussed, places that I am excluded from, makes me want to write fic LESS

I mean I guess who cares, right, because if I stop writing, there's 10,000 other people that will continue...but if you participate in a fic "book club" server and you say nice things there about a fic you loved, maybe copy and paste that into a comment on AO3?

the only thing fanfic writers are asking for in return for hours of hard work is attention. please don't rob us of the one thing that we hope for when we hit "post"

because A: a shocking amount of people don't know abt the 'img src=' trick to add images into comment sections, and B: well over half of the authors seem to really enjoy the sentiment

I wrote a whole chapter on the “how Owen joined Chimera” fic I’m working on in my notes app (sometimes when I’m half asleep in bed I’ll write a bit and get carried away so it was quite a lot of writing). ANYWAY I opened my notes app on my Mac and I guess iCloud synced them up but overwrote the newest version with the old version so THE CHAPTER’S GONE. Thanks Apple, 10/10 product -_-

have you ever read a fanfic so good that you wanted to write a fanfic about that fanfic, but was too shy / too intimidated to ask for the author’s permission and too afraid that your writing wouldn’t be half as good as theirs and that it would be an insult to their work that was basically a literal masterpiece, so you just sat there fantasizing about their work and how beautiful it was and how you wished you could just eat it and how you wished canon could write your blorbos half as good as this writer did and how you just wanted to cry because you just loved that fic so much????

I’m aiming for sometime tomorrow or Friday at the latest, it’s all written I just haven’t had the time to go through it one last time to check for mistakes yet. Currently fighting with getting my prescription renewed which is what’s slowing me down, they won’t let me do it online and wait times for actual clinics here are hours long apparently, so it depends entirely on how fast I can get in and out of the clinic tomorrow lol

One of my FAVOURITE ship dynamics to write or read in fics is when two characters are basically already a couple but they just haven’t realised it yet. They call each other up at like 3am, they cuddle, they sleep in the same bed, they fall asleep in each other’s arms, they hold hands, they practically live together, they talk about having a ~ special connection ~, they just haven’t actually kissed or done the do or talked about their feelings yet so they’re still both like “but I just don’t know if they like me in that way!!”

Clivesdale AU - Basically modern day AU where Curt’s tasked with finding the DMA in Clivesdale, but every agent keeps getting killed so his survival odds aren’t good (and Owen’s not happy about it)

Fluffy smut - Just some smut I wrote that ended up being pretty fluffy, I want to do kinkier stuff but can never think of anything (please send me asks for specific kinks and stuff I will gladly write them!)

Vampire Owen smut - Speaking of kinkier but also somehow fluffy smut, the first pass of this is done. I wanna tweak it a bit before releasing it though and I’m procrastinating

Werewolf Curt Part 2 - Some witches help turn “Scruffy” into a human again and Owen has to come to terms with that (I mean he’s been telling “Scruffy” terrible shit about Curt for years, saying how much he hates Curt….)

Chimera Story - Working on Owen’s pov of joining Chimera and going after Curt. This is a big one, multi chaptered and would also continue past the end of the musical to explain how/why Curt wasn’t ever able to take down Chimera. This idea’s been floating around in my head for years, I really should finish writing it but idk if anyone would want that since it doesn’t have too much interaction between Curt and Owen, mostly just Owen struggling with constantly thinking about Curt

PEIP AU - Wilbur Cross has such Owen vibes that I love the idea that he actually is Owen somehow (currently headcanoning that he actually would have died that day he slipped but he can survive in the Black and White, and very few humans can do that, so Wiggly saved him by opening a tiny portal and got Tinky to make him immortal the same way Holloway is) anyway ignore that headcanon because it doesn’t apply to this fic I wrote a while back. I guess it’s sort of reincarnation AU but Owen/Wilbur remembered his life as Owen when he went into the Black and White, Curt/Howie remembers during the events of Black Friday when he goes into the Black and White, so it’s Owen gloating over tricking Curt into starting WWIII (but with a happy ending because idk why)

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.
