Are you sure about this? The question still echoed in his head; it was a question he had been asked no less than 10 times as he departed -- heading straight for the city center and the offices of the SS.
He was ready. Ready to finally renounce the Commandos, to sever all ties to them and to any rumors of the rebellion. He was ready to take the otherside up on their offer and join their ranks. He was tired of keeping his head down. Tired of hiding. He didn’t want to just survive anymore. He wanted a life.
And accepting this would give it to him.
Or so he would tell everyone. That was the official story. That Rebel Ralston was tired of being the underdog. Tired of fighting a losing battle. Just tired of everything. And so he turned traitor.
Really, he was doing it to get the Commandos an in. They had two already -- one through Bex and one through Dino. But that was hardly enough. And neither of them had access to anything down on the ground. But by doing this? Reb would.
And then finally, maybe, they could begin to make a move.
Stopping in front of the building that served as SS HQ, he paused. Allowed himself one final moment of panic and one last deep breath before stepping inside. Here went nothing.

//Okay. So I thiiiiiiiiiiiiink I might have figured out where Reb fits in the whole scheme of the “new world order” that comes with TBTM. Maybe. Really, I have two different ways I can see him going.
1) Reb is one of the Commandos that fled to the “neutral ground.” In the original book (and in the TV show), the area near the Rockies is known as the “neutral zone” and belongs to no one. I could see some of the Commandos fleeing there, only to return to New York when summoned because shit is about to go down.
2) Reb was one of the ones voted to investigate from the inside. Because yes, they have Bex deep inside the enemy “camp” and Dino. But they don’t have access to everything. Dino may be the Empire’s favorite star but he is just that, a star. He wouldn’t be given much access to anything political. And Bex is almost always under surveillance. So Reb (and probably one or two others) were voted to “see the error of their ways” and denounce the world they once fought for, joining the new military. Which would give them access to important information. And make sure they don’t end up brainwashed like Izzy (BREAK MY HEART) since they joined willingly.
Yes? No? Maybe? I’m leaning more towards 2 cause it keeps him near everyone else. But 1 could be interesting.

//Things to do today:
Remember Reb exists
Figure out where he fits into the whole “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” verse. Like what the hell would Reb be doing there. BESIDES BEING EVENTUALLY TORTURED BY NATASHA (RUDE NAT).

Headcanon: Saint Patrick’s Day
Unlike some holidays (*cough*AprilFools*cough*), Saint Patrick’s Day is one of those days when you ABSOLUTELY want to be around the Commandos, for it is a day of non stop shenanigans and partying.
There is usually a poll about how many times Dino will mention his “shillelagh stick” and then another on how many times he can mention it to Maria Hill without her punching him.
Reb and Junior spend the whole day quoting Boondock Saints (and occasionally Bex and Bucky join in).
(Addition: If either Reb or Junior manage to mention the “motherfucking rope” more than 50 times within a certain period of time, Jack ties them with exactly that to some random pole in the city. The location of said pole is disclosed to no one.)
Jack sits in the corner, very much enjoying the flow of beer and being surprisingly pleasant. Because he can actually admit the Irish deserve a nice day and hey…at least they aren’t American.
While green may not be Manelli’s color (or at least he believes it isn’t so), he’s the first one to get his nails painted green by a flock of pretty girls at the bar. For there is a bar. There are lots of bars. Day drinking is totally a thing.
Dugan, in a move that is surprising to no one, goes all out. Decked head to toe and singing Irish drinking tunes at the top of his lungs.
Bex puts green streaks in her hair and attempts to do the same to her brother. She may also end up with things like gold lipstick and green sparkly nails.
And the whole days ends with a party at Dugan’s place where he makes his famous Guinness stew and the Captain and Bex bring over beer bread and everyone sees how many desserts they can find that have Baileys mixed into them. And there is food. So much food. And even more beer. And all the drinking songs.
So of course, the next day, they all celebrate evacuation day and no one goes in to work as they sleep off the hangovers. (Except Cap, but Bex makes him stay home anyway.)

General PSA (mostly for the purpose of roleplays on this blog) that the Commandos are not Peggy Carter’s lapdogs. This isn’t an attack on Peggy. The boys have tremendous respect for her in full realisation of her abilities in combat and outside of it - they have worked with her, and likely under her command at several points during the war. They are, however (and I say this knowing full well there’ll be someone who disagrees), highly trained soldiers, who are more suited to and skilled at combat than she is. They are friends with her, and will respond to a request for help quite happily, but she is outside of their unit, and they aren’t at her beck and call. They’re her allies, not hers.

//Gather round, loves. It’s time for what Dugan would call a ‘real talk’.
Over the past few months, I have been growing increasingly disillusioned with the MCU and the way that Marvel seems to be bending the comics to match it. The lack of continuity is maddening (i.e. Bucky’s ever changing birthdate/backstory and the differences between the Agent Carter one shot and the series) as is their metaphorically spitting in the face of many of the things I love about the universe and its stories.
