Good morning guys!!

I never got to post it, but I made an egg and taco yesterday that was SO yummy :D

It came out so perfectly, and was so so delicious! The herbs on it are some black pepper, and some of an Italian seasoning mix :D

I also cured a nitrogen deficiency my lil’ guys were having last night. Noticed they were a bit yellow, in sunflowers that’s the biggest sign of a nitrogen deficiency, so I gave the guys some plant food and sure enough, they were so happy in the morning :D

Going to be moving them a pot today so they can strengthen up before planting outdoors. They’re drooping a bit indoors because they keep trying to go towards the wrong light source which is the kitchen chandelier </3

It has incandescent bulbs, and my plant light has LED… plants tend to like incandescent more because they’re warmer and mimic the sun more, so they’re mistakenly thinking it’s the sun </3 but planting them today’ll help fix that, they’re beyond healthy just a tiiiiiiny bit confused here!

Finally, I got our old iPod back!! It works amazing still, and I might try to do a shell swap to a green shell as well as add more storage space. It was super funny and nostalgic to see all our old YouTube to mp3 downloaded songs on there, and I added some new ones (like our Will Wood albums we have ripped, as well as an actual bought copy of “Skulls Shall Bloom At The End Credits” instead of our YouTube downloaded one).

If you haven’t heard the song Skulls Shall Bloom At The End, it’s one of my favorites both mv, lyrics, and music wise. It’s the song that got us into vocaloid!

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

Hi hi!! Good afternoon!

My sunflower is doing really really well!! He’s very green, and very happy, and he’s survived so much, I’m so proud of him! Little guy has survived COUNTLESS caterpillar attacks, and even a squirrel digging him back, but he’s bounced back every single time <3

Also!!! New little sunflowers germinated!! I’m waiting till they’re a bit older to plant them, I’m going to pot them when they’re old enough so they grow to be a bit stronger :D They’re so so cute!!

It’s been raining a lot, which has helped everyone grow super strong but… I forgot my wire cutters outside </3 they’re super rusted now, but they should be still usable (I think). I only use them for cutting wires on chicken fencing to protect my plants, so it shouldn’t be too big of a deal!

Hey hey!! Apologies for lack of posting, been really busy but! Going to try to get back to it a bit :D

Some outfit pictures for today, plus a close-up of the collar of my blouse because it has such cute detailing!!! Also did makeup today :D

My sunflower is doing well still, sadly he’s the only lil guy who made it through the non-stop squirrel attacks, but I’ve got some new little sprouts germinating as well :D

Going to wait till they’re a bit older and have developed their trichomes like this fuzzy little guy to plant them, because it seems to really help them be a bit more sturdy outside <3

Squirrels are just… the worst to deal with. They can even chew through metal fencing, so there’s practically no way to deter them unfortunately, you just gotta hope the plants are strong enough to :(

I also planted both my varieties of basil I have growing, as well as my rue and tomato plants outside because they were too big for their pots :D

The white stuff all over them is called diatomaceous earth, and I’m using it to remove caterpillars. The ones here where I live have turned out to unfortunately be real menaces and deterrents just… don’t work. I feel a bit sad about that but when they’re older hopefully they’ll be able to survive more attacks and I won’t have to use it.

Finally, in case you guys were wondering the heights of the sunflowers I’m planting when fully grown! They’re mammoth sunflowers, and usually can grow from 7-12 feet tall! They’re big guys :D

Oooooo!!! Those are so pretty… I think they’re Kousa Dogwoods!!!! There are a lot of dogwoods around me, in fact there’s actually one in a little sitting area right outside my house, I believe this guy might also be a Kousa Dogwood, just of the white flowered variety :D

I like to sit here and read a lot, because of the benches and how pretty the trees are :D

In fact! This photo I posted a while back actually was taken on those benches!!

It’s nearing the end of their bloom season, because they stop blooming around early summer, which is why both the ones you spotted and the ones here are starting to darken, but they bloom every year!!

I always look forward to it, as well as Sakura season… my whole street is lined with cherry blossom trees, so around March it’s absolutely stunning to walk down it.

YEAH...I mean that's such a big part of the joy for me of science is the process of it, and getting to see what makes us, and everything around us just live and breathe...I felt literally giddy when I was examining the two cells I actually managed to get around to before everyone left. Like that's life, that makes up all of us, it's why we're able to be here, sensing, feeling, it's just incredible!

Just asking AI to do it for you...you miss out on that joy and wonder of seeing that, it takes away what makes science (especially biosciences) so amazing for me.

Hey! Just warning, some of this is going to be a bit of a rant/vent because I had a pretty...draining day today but I do have some positive news at the end. I like to try to find something positive even when I'm having a bad day!

I'm....really noticing the effects of just AI, and being on the phone all the time has on people in my lab section of my class... It's demoralizing, and it's harming my enjoyment of the class as well.

For context, there's a rule that if there's only one student in the lab, the lab has to close for safety reasons (teacher needs multiple students around in case an emergency occurs, can't just have a student alone) and there's a major problem with the students in my class just typing all the lab questions, and things they need into ChatGPT and then leaving super early... I've been unable to get the data I need for 2 labs now because of it, the teacher calls it out but just nothing is done about it, and it's really...dystopian honestly.

It's just like no one is actually interested and wants to actually do work, they just want it done for them, and I just don't understand. Why has this become so incredibly normalized, why can't they find the joy in it, I'd think students taking a bioscience class would care a bit more about how much ai affects the environment AT LEAST, not to mention all the moral things wrong with it, and using it to cheat through class...

It drove me crazy, we were using microscopes today, and I was so excited and instead of doing the work and looking at the slides, they just typed the cells into chatgpt they were supposed to be looking at, told it to generate a drawing of it and label the parts they needed, and complained the whole class about how boring it was, and how was this relevant and useful?

Sorry for getting a bit annoyed but, how is this NOT relevant? We literally were examining a human sperm cell as one of the slides, I don't understand how that's not absolutely fascinating, and so cool, I mean that's part of what we all came from??? How is that not "relevant" or interesting... I feel like I'm the only one who finds this stuff interesting and super cool and I just feel really demoralized today. I hate how normalized this has become, just not caring about anything and wanting a robot to do it all for you, when you could be learning stuff that's genuinely fascinating, and just. Man.

Anyways!! On positive news!!

I made some signs yesterday because yard services come around our neighborhood on Wednesdays and I wanted them to be careful around my sprouts today and!! I came home!! And they were careful, none of them had been mowed over!!

I was so worried about it, because technicallyyyy I am kind of planting where I'm well, not supposed to be planting, but it seems they understood that the area could use some more greenery and seemed really careful not to run them over which was really, really sweet.

They did however get caterpillar munched.... I'm trying some vinegar and water to repel the caterpillars, because they seem to definitely have a taste for my sunflowers! I try not to use insecticide on caterpillars, because 1. they're adorable, and 2. they grow into butterflies which are really good for pollinating and just absolutely beautiful.

Hopefully repelling them works, because I don't want them to take too many munches and kill them, but I don't want to kill the caterpillars either...
