This blog is centered around Dabi, whose true identity is Touya Todoroki— Shouto’s older brother who was long believed to be dead. He was later revealed to be the villain Dabi from the League of Villains. I’ll mostly be discussing Dabi’s character and writing metas about him, along with other BNHA-related topics.

I agree with this, I never known Dabi attack innocent people and the people we see Dabi targeting are thugs in the alley way and the meta liberation to be fair they attacked him first the reason why he attacked the ua students is because they are capable of defending themselves for all i know dabi never fights anyone who can’t fight back.
Is it gonna come off as overly apologist-y if I suspect Dabi's "over 30 innocent people" number from his big video is a reference to his total kill count at the time vs the reveal of prolific offscreen serial killing it's supposed to be taken as? This is not me saying targeting innocent civilians is at all something he wouldn't do- his last act in canon was indeed a suicide bombing attempt that would have killed thousands had it succeeded- but it fails "show don't tell' and he's deliberately making himself sound as bad as possible in order to damn Endeavor by association. We're given onscreen proof that Toga is skulking around picking off randos but Dabi's MO before this has been mostly burning A LOT of lower level villains that tried to suck up to him and that one hero (who yeah didn't deserve to get turned into charcoal but, it was a fight)
So yeah if it's not him trying to make his total kill count sound as nasty as possible, the fact we get NO outside implications his MO has changed before this it low-key feels like Hori pulled this out of his ass to try and preempt the audience sympathizing with him. I'm not saying this on a "Dabi is a good person guys" level, fuck no he's not, Im saying this on a writing quality level.

I wanted to ask something, in the flashback sequence of Fubuki’s past where in her childhood when she was taken to the doctor what was Fubuki diagnosed as?
Shes diagnosed as a “divergent”.
I added question x marks in that scene because I didn’t know what to call her until much later.
The kanji for quirks (個) is loosely tied to “individuality" and the kanji for “divergent” the kanji (異) is tied to “different" even though there's a proper term for people are mostly called that in the story to highlight the problems of hero society.
I didn’t want to elaborate on it since it's a delicate topic for people.

Hi, i read your analysis for kotaro shimura and it was a fascinating read! You did a great job of breaking down kotaro's own justifications for abusing tenko and his family's complicity in the abuse at tenko's expense! Have a lovely day!
thank you so much, I always found Kotaros to "protect" his family from heroes selfish since its mainly focused on himself and his own feelings even after finding out that kotaro was manipulated by AFO it doesn't does little to change this. Kotaro was the one who chose to abuse his family than be a good parent he brought all that on himself and he has himself to blame.

Is there a theme that is associated with fubuki?
Yes, there is. bnha is a series centered around heroes and villains, with the main theme being “what is a hero?” Fubuki is created to counter it with a different question: "What is a villain?"
Since Fubuki only appeared in my fanfiction even briefly, her presence shifted the narrative by making people question the whole villain and hero dichotomy.
For example, an Endeavor who is considered a hero outside abuses his family in private, but Fubuki, whose only crime is destroying a hero's office, invades Cloud Tower and pretends to take hostages to expose the abuse but not harm anyone, is considered a villain?
Then there's their actions in how they affected the aftermath
Though Fubuki is called a villain, she is also considered a hero because she exposed the corruption of the hero commision and the dirty side of hero society, and saved many lives as a result. She didn’t physically save others, but emotionally saved others but doing this.
Her actions caused a lot of upheaval in society, but also caused change where Endeavor, who is considered a hero, lost everything, people who once supported him easliy turned on him when they found out the truth it showed how much society only cared about themselves over the truth and the thing endeovir did save them but only psycally not emotional he never actuall cared about others before when it did it was only too late this doomed him.
When I create a bnha oc, I think of the theme of bnha in mind and how they fit into it. I think the same can be said of others who created ocs. If you're making an oc for a series that you are into, how would your oc fit into the themes of the story?

Dabi's personality in Smash! and how it connects to the main series.
This was something I always thought about when I read Smash. I found that the characters in Smash made several references to their characters in the main story.
Hirofumi might be the one who created the story and drew the art, but most of their characters reference the main story, and Horikoshi is the one who was behind the concept.
This was something that was always on my mind for a while, but I didn’t have the motivation to write it. I always wanted to examine how Dabi from Smash makes references to his character in the main story. But due to the Tumblr image limit, I might split this up. I won’t go too super nitpicky on the details. I will only choose the parts that correlate to Dabi’s character in the main series.

First, let's start with his bio. It begins with the tagline, the tagline is introduced to us as a mystery to heighten the mystery of Dabi’s character. It places a heavy emphasis on eyes, where eyes are associated with looking and seeing. This correlates to Dabi’s past as Touya, where he was obsessed with his father's approval, with his words being the arc line to look for the biggest hint to his identity as Touya Todorki, the son of Endeavor, is in large part seen in the eyes, pun not intended.
It also indicates that Dabi had no plans to live after he got revenge on his father, so what he sees is his death, which is a grim foreshadowing for his character.
The bio describes Dabi as cat-like, being distant and aloof. The reason he doesn’t get too close to others is that he is focused on getting revenge on his father and plans to die after all of this is over. The reason he tends not to get close he sees no point in doing so
The reason Dabi is exasperated by the league's antics is because dabi is not too used to socializing with others. He has been training all his life to get his father's approval, so he has never socialized with anyone outside his family, and he has never been in social situations when he is with the league. Dabi doesn’t socialize all that much due to how cut off he is from others, pretty lonely...

You see Dabi and Tomura interact briefly in the manga there not much to go on their relationship Dabi has some common respect for Shigaraki for taking his role seriously as a leader and Shigaraki trusts Dabi to do his tasks but here they have petty squabbles in smash

the reason why they butt heads is because of how many similarities they have between them have some common respect between them. Both have been created and raised by abusive father figures for their twisted ambitions, used as tools; most of the trauma they experienced was due to them.
In the bio at the last part “Be yourself!” there is one thing i noticed in smash is that dabi is expressive to quote to be himself is just saying express himself Dabi rarely shows his emotions in the main story Dabi use to be a lot more expressive when he was younger as Touya todoroki however since his fire power is connected to his emotions if he isn’t careful he could burn himself to death. The only time we ever get to see any emotion is when he faces heroes and fights his dad. Dabi is still cold and distant in Smash, but the biggest difference is that he is expressive. I find this quote ironic because he hid his identity when he joined the league.

Dabi’s introduction in Smash doesn’t say anything except that it states his motives and his quirk. Just the fact of his identity is obscured in Smash to keep the mystery of his identity in the main series intact.
I find this pretty self-explanatory. His flame quirk references that dabi is Touya Todoroki, the son of Endeavor, who can also manipulate flames, and he joined the League to get revenge on Endeavor; he was only using the stain as a cover for his revenge. To fulfill Stain’s purpose might note how Stain was unable to kill the Endeavor, so he is fulfilling his wish of doing it for him.

Dabi is intolerant of others who get on his nerves it's mainly because he doesn’t know how to deal with others or act around them this is largely seen in how Dabi get exacerbated with the leagues antics

Dabi follows the rules of the game commits to it no matter now absurd this could be seen as Dabi cannot exist without a perceived purpose the whole reason he is annoyed by the league is how they lack a purpose.
The whole reason Dabi is cooperative is because he sees something out of it; he's cooperative as long as it gets him closer, and he gets

Dabi is the most serious minded of the league he he is very committed to his goals dabi puts work and effort in what he does takes things very seriously and gets angry when the members don’t take anything seriously despite getting annoyed by the league of villains for setting a role does it

Dabi does albeit unwilling he does participate in group activities with the league despite getting annoyed by them there might even be an underlying kindness to Dabi character and desire to connect to them

A cute fact Dabi is innocent towards flirting this foils him to Todoroki they are oblivious to the fact that they have fans, but this also goes in line with how he doesn’t know how to deal with others he is so disconnected from others he's not use to dealing with people this is seen in how he reacted to magnes flirting Dabi doesn’t understand advances towards him he low view of himself and doesn’t think anyone would like him up to this point Dabi is apathetic he wouldn't allow other emotions to himself and other people.

Something was interesting in these panels, it points to how no one in the league knows about dabi because he's distant from them. He doesn’t get too close due to how focused she is on nothing but his goals. Dabi doesn’t put himself in the story, just hangs in the background. Dabi hangs around and doesn’t go in and out of his way to interact with them.

One detail I noticed is how peeved Dabi is when they pointed out that despite him being useful, Dabi cannot stand the fact that he isn’t useful. This is why he does whatever role is assigned; he can’t stand being called useless.

If there's one thing about Dabi, it's that Dabi is observant. he can notice subtle changes when no one else seems to notice. Dabi can notice the change in the atmosphere when no one does. He notices the small details that might go over people's heads.

In the panels, Dabi is the one commenting on certain situations and recognizing absurdity. He knows how people act and think, and can know their personality to an extent.

Dabi can see reason when he isn’t blinded by revenge, he can pinpoint who is accountable. This is seen in how he doesn’t hold Kurogiri accountable because he knows it isn’t his fault.

In these panels, Dabi asked Kurogiri why he was wearing that. Kurogiri looks like a mushroom in Japanese culture, but I can’t type here. If I did, this blog would be in flames.
Dabi saying the censor bar references he does have some semblance of knowing social norms, unlike the love because he lived longer in society and blends in by being unnoticed.

Dabi and Shoto are facing each other. This is the first time they interacted, their face-off foreshadows their familiar connection and their eventual showdown.

When Dabi said to Mineta, “You're not much to look at,” in One's Justice, Dabi can recognize when people are not being heroic, as seen in his comments to Mineta.

Something interesting to note is that Shigarakiankles was brought up in a post. It's that the kanji is encircled with Dabi signing his name as encircled like a traditional poet. These notes show that Dabi grew up in a traditional Japanese household. This is a Japanese haiku. It is written in old-fashioned kanji, a clear indication that he grew up in a Japanese household.
In Japanese culture, cicadas are present in the summer season. You can hear them in the summer. The cicadas are dabi, referring to the league. The poem talks about his annoyance with the league and wants them to shut up, so basically, he is calling the league annoying. Japanese culture has an appreciation for nature environment I find this ironic since it notes that he nearly died on a winter day on a hill in the forest Summer nights are usually hot and suffocating That must be what he felt to dabi all the time it's not surprising English version of Smash did something similar but took it a step further, the burn burn references his quirk.

Dabi is struggling in the mountain hike Dabi mentioned metabolism it is a reference to his flame quirk I theorized that his quirk is related to his metabolism because fire uses energy to burn so his quirk using his metabolism this scene reference to how weak dabi’s body has become and how Dabi knows the limits of his body.

When Dabi replied to Magne, it meant that Dabi does understand people's concern for him, but Dabi tells Magne is fine and that he should worry about himself. Dabi doesn’t have to tell him that, but he does. I find this interesting because it shows a stark contrast to how his family is concerned about him; it's like they use concern to dance around their issues. Dabi isn’t bothered when people are concerned about him and can recognize people's concern for him, but he is completely apathetic to himself; he has a low view of himself.
I wanted to write about this for a while, and I am happy to finish this. Writing is not my strong suit, so there is a good chance that I might have missed a few details in Smash if I feel free to add.

on kosaka as a character?
Wow, I don’t know where to start when it comes to Kosaka, Kosaka is my bnha oc who is the narrator of the fanfiction.
Kosaka was my oc, who was supposed to be a character who examines dabi as a character. Kosaka is someone who doesn’t hold any biases or misconceptions. Her passive voice makes her a gateway to readers.
The fanfiction is focused on Kosaka’s POV on Dabi, but personality-wise wise Kosaka’s an everyman who narrates, but what I didn’t expect was to get that deep into her as I write.
Design-wise, she is an oc that doesn’t stand out but blends with the background. She is someone you can
Find just about anywhere aside from her purple eyes, her design stands out for being observant.
Kosaka is treated by others as a tool because of her healing quirk, sought out by people to use, including her abusive father. People held preconceived notions about Kosaka due to her healing quirk.
Kosaka is trapped by her circumstances and others' preconceived notions of her. Kosaka never knew what she wanted due to how people never gave her any options and reduced her to her quirk, denying her humanity in the process.
Kosaka questions her place in the world and believes her fate is to fade away into nothing, with no one noticing, that was, until Dabi’s appearance burned that thought away
One thing to keep in mind when you write fanfiction is not only to be wary of the dialogue, but do a character sheet when writing characters, it might come in handy to make sure writing is consistent

what is something to keep in mind when you write fanfiction?
When I first wrote fanfiction, there were a lot of things that I didn’t notice. For one, I am not good at writing and describing others' facial expressions, so I found that difficult. There were other details that I found out, despite being a meta writer, it's always hard to put your thoughts down. Hence, it comes off as too wordy, though it was difficult to write every chapter, the support and love people gave helped me push through, so I want to share with you things I realized and things to keep in mind when you write fanfiction.
Use other sources that correlate with the series you are writing from:
Bnha is a series that is centered around heroes with one of the main themes, “what is a hero?” so with that in mind cite other sources I used hero and leander story from "how to draw heroes from Stan lee" since it correlates to the series that its a part of and being horikoshi favorite artists even cited stan lee reference for his manga. Hence, I used him when I was writing my fanfiction to describe heroes in bnha and Kosaka’s situation.
Since the fanfiction is about a relationship between two people, the Hero and Leander story would be a refernce to them.
I wanted to explore the villain side that the main series didn’t touch on when they are not fighting heroes. I wanted to humanize villains by asking the question "what is a villain?” and showing that narrative roles forced upon them by others hurt them like it did with both dabi and Kosaka.
Be sure to keep the themes intact:
There are some bigger gripes when I see people write fanfiction is that there is too much canon divulgence, so much so that it becomes too unrecognizable that you can’t tell it is from the series anymore.
Even though I did change the timeline of the series in my fanfiction, I made sure to keep the characters from the original personalities intact while writing them. I wrote about the hypocrisy of the civilians and heroes in the first chapter, as I did in the main series, and I made Kosaka interact with heroes as well as villains in the story, not just dabi. Though Kosaka asked the iconic question What is a hero? It's used to describe Kosaka as a character.
So if you forget the themes in the main series, it will become unrecognizable as you write
See how your oc interacts with characters and their surroundings:
You established your OC's personality and background. Now, see how they would react, show how your oc would react to their environment and reaction when talking to a canon character. The big thing in writing is that you have to understand your OC's personality, would they clash with other characters due to different personalities' beliefs, or get along? That is something to explore while you write the story, that's the difficult part to write, since you have to keep your characters consistent.
understand the canon characters and their state of mind when writing:
This is important to writing, but this is something that I see people mess up when they tend to misinterpret the canon character while writing or overexaggerate their personalities.
Think about what they are like when they are not focused on a singular goal, let them do mundane things like checking their phone, sitting on a couch, walking, or eating, think of them as human, not just fictional cutouts
I know I said you had to understand the oc and how to write them before in the last segment, by testing by seeing how they react with your oc would react the same with the canon, would they hate them like them? would they clash due to different beliefs? Or work together with a specific goal? Those questions are endless, so put them in the same situation and see how it goes from there. Let the canon think about your oc write I wrote a small segment of Dabi’s thoughts about Kosaka.
For writing Dabi, I wrote about Dabi’s and Fubuki’s close relationship. Dabi's attitude in the fanfiction is due to Fubuki’s death. In the main series, they never wrote about what happened to a character after they complete their revenge that is something that wasn’t touched up upon so I wanted to elaborate with Dabi, though Dabi completed his revenge he is left purposeless, and after losing the only person who ever understood him and cared about him this spurred Dabi to have a new purpose which is to grant her wish. Dabi is latching on to a strong purpose, just like he has done with Stain, except this time it's with his aunt. Even when Dabi had someone important to him, his goals wouldn’t change because he wasn’t saved by Shoto, yet this stayed true to Dabi’s character in the main series. Even though he had a close relationship with an oc, he was still his canon counterpart in writing
As a meta writer, writing dabi has always been difficult, but the payoff is worth it.
Cultural subtext:
This is something that a lot of people miss in writing: it's the cultural subtext. BNHA is a series that takes place in Japan, so there's a lot of Japanese culture in there.
The important part of writing a fanfiction is understanding the cultural subtext around the setting. I lacked culture, so it took a while to finish each chapter. I remembered how much research I did on every chapter when I was writing.
That is something to be mindful of each time you write a fanfiction for a series that takes place in Japan, as it has an extensive culture surrounding it.
Make their relationship natural, not forced:
I love shipping, I mean, who doesn’t, but what I also love is seeing a relationship develop between two characters, the reason Shipping a canonxoc comes off as unorganic since you never really showed why they love each other. The biggest thing when you write is to show progression in their relationship, and no, there is no such thing as love at first sight. That's why you have to build it up; it makes it all the more enjoyable to read as you see characters change and grow.
Okay, this is pretty long, but this is only my opinion on what I did when I wrote fanfiction. I hope this can help you in some way with your writing. Writing is always difficult, but finishing a chapter is always worth it. The last thing is to have fun when you write. That is important.

There was some Greek mythology in your fanfiction. Is there some significance to it?
its actulley from the "how to draw heroes book" from Stan Lee, since Stan Lee is the creator of heroes I think maybe it might be fitting to add that tidbit. Since BNHA take a lot of influences from Western superhero comics.
Stan Lee mentions this story about “hero" when he was talking about how to draw heroes in a tutuorial book, so I wanted to add this in my fanfiction.
stan lee compared heros story to superheros by saying that "like most heros that have have spectacular falls" but I read that story differently and compare it to the heroes in BNHA.
Hero is a priestess of Aphrodite. She worships the goddess of love but cannot love anyone else; she has to put her duty first and foremost above everything else.
This is like how heroes save others and fight villains to protect the social order, they fight to protect peoples normal life yet are not allowed to have a normal life. They have to be so selfless that they have to give up any semblance of a normal life.
Hero and the superheroes of bnha are simualr to how their both reduced to their dutys and stripped of their personhoods, are only ever seen for their duty but not for themselves.
I think that's why her relationship with leander is important because it highlights that contradiction I mentioned earlier. Leander humanizes her by noting her need for love and connection.
When hero committed suicide after Landers's death, I interpreted that scene as meaning that she would rather die to be with someone she loved than live a life of isolation. Her relationship with Leander and her suicide showcase her humanity, which wasn’t seen by anyone, not even by her parents.
the real tragidy is not the fact that hero fell in love but was not allowed to express that love becuase of the preconceived notion of her duty in play it never allowed her to connect with anyone or to openly pursue her relatiosnhip with leander due to how her duty doesn’t allow her to frrely express it.
The fact that the maid who watched over her and parents don’t know about this only puts on another layer of tragedy because, as I said, they reduced her to her duty but did not see her humanity.
I find that hero’s story says a bit about Kosaka and how Kosaka is reduced to her healing quirk and stripped of her personhood.

can you tell me what fubuki thinks of fuyumi?
I already gave a detailed answer about it in my asks but if I was being honest, Fubuki is not fond of Fuyumi but tolerates her for dabi and shoto's sake.
Fubuki does get angry with fuyumi from time to time but her temper is controlled and her tone is ice cold.
So she tells fuyumi what she wanted to hear but each time she gives fuyumi advice it comes off as harsh that's her letting her true feelings known to fuyumi.
Fubuki uses Fuyumi to monitor the state of the household and endeavor which fuyumi wasn’t aware of.

do you think fuyumi is aware that fubuki is not fond of her?
Yes to some extent but it too afraid, Fuyumi is afraid of asking questions in fear she might be faced with Fubuki's coldness streak. As I stated before what Fuyumi was really afraid of is admitting that she didn’t have anyone to turn to, Fuyumi didn’t want to look at the truth until it was too late.
There relationship seems cordial on the surface in truth its always on thin ice.

Can you highlight one quote in the fanfiction that summarizes dabi?
"If the response was right about one thing, at the end of the day no matter if it's fantasy or reality, hero and villain who lives and who dies there is no such thing as change."
this is from the same kid who woke up from a coma for three years only to realize that his death didn’t change the household.
Dabi used to believe in the hope that things would change but that has been crushed I tried to explain the inner workings of Dabi’s mind in one simple sentence but since his character is multifaceted it's not always enough. I felt that this perfectly encapsulates dabi in how he believes that there is no such thing as change.
Dabi knows that exposing endeavor wouldn't change society, but Fubuki’s death and exposing endeavor wouldn’t change society proved him right.
when Dabi spoke this line I imagined what he was thinking about when he was saying it.

Touya's past analysis: Part 3: Chapter 350

Touya is running in the forest, encased by flames. Touya's jaw is coming off. This can be a call back to how Endeavor described the remains: that a piece of his jaw bone remained.

Touya commenting on how hot they are Touya is feeling the temperature of the flames and references how intense his flames are. This reminded me of the line that was spoken in the last chapter.
I wonder if that's what is always felt, that all the time he is always on fire and that everything was hot.
This is ironic. Touya never wanted to die, but Dabi did; not wanting to die proved you have hope for something to live for, and Touya, in this case, was hoping that his father would care about him.

Touya is heading towards a river jumping into the river after accidentally setting himself on fire Touya manage to protect his body by jumping in the water, Touya all burnt up and near death with AFO standing at the end of it

in case you didn't notice AFO appeared in the trees last chapter it wasn’t obvious.

AFO's standing over Touya's burnt body has sinister implications.

A few years later, Touya woke up in bed alone in a new place. Touya woke up confused about his surroundings; he was in the forest now, at the bed.

The children's cheerful smiles were not welcoming, just unsettling. When Touya asked, Touya touched his throat and was surprised that his voice had changed.

Touya learned he was in a coma for a few years, but hearing the children's answer didn’t ease his anxiety; it worsened it. There was a look of confusion and anxiety on Touya's face when he heard their answer.
This place alone conveyed just how unsettling it is. In fact, it's even more unsettling that Touya was brought from the forest there to be fixed. How did he get there? Who brought him? There was no one in the forest but him. That's what makes the situation so disturbing; we know who it was that brought him, but not Touya. It just adds to how unsettling this situation is.

Here he looked scared, alone, and confused. He is desperate to get home, even the Sun-Sun guy didn’t help with matters. The sun sun guy's smile was just disturbing because you can tell there are hidden intentions behind it.

Touya is told that this can be his new family, but Touya has no idea what a family is since Endeavor has no interest in being a father. He knew the circumstances of his birth and his siblings; to him, all his family gave him was pain.
It felt like those values were forced on him without his consent. That is exactly what Sun Sun was doing to him. Having a new family is not what Touya asked for. They didn’t consider his feelings in this like Endeavor; neither asked what Touya wanted or thought. They just imposed their views on him.
Having a family that would smile under the sun. Touya would not view it that way, and if he did, it wouldn’t be that different from what he felt in the household; in fact, the children's happy faces would feel even more isolated due to the pain he suffered. He would be aware of what the facility was doing to further the isolation, much like he is aware of his circumstances in the household. This is not a family but a cage or an experiment.
Touya is alone in a new place. He is anxious and scared. He wanted to go back home, being told that he can’t leave made Touya even more desperate.

As I stated, Touya still held on to the belief that Endeavor might care even after being in a coma. He still holds on to that hope; he is still stuck in that same mindset as back then to get his father to see him again here.

As I stated before in the last chapter, Touya was capable of feeling remorse. He felt guilty for attacking Shoto before, so he would have remorse for lashing out at Rei. Touya was somewhat aware that Rei was suffering, too, but was too angry to notice that he was angry when Rei gave a hypocritical speech to him, so he lashed out
Touya feels guilty for all the awful things he said and did, and he has to apologize to his family. His Mom and siblings were his top priority. While talking to Sun Sun, Touya is holding on to that thread but is crushed moments later.

Touya is surprised by the monitor speaking; the speaker on that monitor told him the condition of his body is that his senses are dulled so he cannot feel pain.

Touya placed a hand on his skin when he listened; his appearance changed as a result of the extensive surgery to his body.

When he heard he cannot produce strong firepower like before Touya’s eyes widened with shock within hand on his mouth pure horror on his face when he learned that he could not prove himself to Endeavor this is the same horror he displayed when he had when he was training with Endeavor when his quirk first burned him it conveyed the same feeling Touya is feeling at the moment.

The next panel was when he was training with Endeavor, I pointed out that Touya was happy when he was training with Endeavor but here that is the part when Endeavor noticed the white in his hair that was that his body was incompatible with his quirk l that was the beginning of what caused his father to discard him and AFO calling him a failure reminded him of how Endeavor viewed Touya as when he discarded and abandoned him.

Touya’s value was judged by the strength of his quirk, and his losing that strength led to Endeavor discarding him and deeming him a failure. Touya has his face in his hands; he is in complete despair; he lost his purpose of surpassing All Might.

Touya rejects AFO manipulations, any attempt that AFO used to manipulate and use Touya was unsuccessful AFO is the same as his father AFO uses others as tools and then discards them similar to how his dad treated his children viewing his children as tools for his ambitions and discard them once he considers them failures Touya had a good eye he can figure out someone's thoughts he didn’t know what was going to happen did he not escape but knew enough that these people held sinister intentions and also he wasn’t going to allow others to dictate him.

Here Touya has tears in his eyes it showed it wasn’t the last time he cried he he can still shed tears Touya telling AFO to shut up mean that Touya had enough of people giving him false advice Touya isn’t going to desperately beg for help because it didn’t work for his family he tried begging for his family to look but it didn’t work they didn’t see his tears Touya knows his purpose and doesn’t need anyone to tell him.
Touya got into an argument with Haruaki Sun Sun, and he unleashed fire before fleeing the facility. This proves just how scared and desperate Touya is to go home. Despite everything he felt in the household, he loved his family, and he only thought about going back home to his actual family and apologizing to them. Surrounded by strangers telling him they would be his new family, but he rejected that because he loved his family. He rejected a new one in favor of his own; he wouldn’t fight so desperately to escape from Haruaki Sun Sun if he didn’t.
They sounded like they let him go but in reality they didn’t care they didn’t care about Touya or stop him from escaping. They considered him a failure, so they didn’t even try to stop him.

The fire in the building contrasts with the fire in the forest to emphasize that his flames are how weak they are now. Touya’s fire power is strong and can burn an entire forest down, but here his flames are not strong enough to burn down the facility, so Touya never killed anyone in the facility.

Touya runs home and you can see the burnt sleeves he was trying to escape.
He still had hope but lowers it since his body was weak he unable to surpass All Might hence losing his purpose but ended up but creating a new one he wanted to know if his death changed his family situation even after everything he still thought of everyone else in the family he wanted his family to be happy and healthy a place free from abuse he wanted his family to be happy and with him returned home with hope of finding a change improved home environment only to find the same sight.

The first two things he saw was he saw was his picture on an alter and his father abusing his brother on the floor the same way he had before Touya witness Endeavor abusing Shoto was enough to know the Endeavor hasn’t change he is still obsessed with surpassing All Might losing a family member did not affect Endeavor.
Despite having a death experience, being in a coma for three years after being gone and presumed dead by his family, his death did not change anything in the family. His death changed nothing.
Touya wanted to believe that his pain and suffering mean something if it didn’t it would be like saying that all the pain and suffering he experienced was for nothing Touya wanted to find meaning for his suffering believed that suffering lead to healing as a way to assign to his trauma but it was nothing but a wish and reality showed him that. Returning he was reminded that he had no purpose the scene showed him again that his life was meaningless Touya meaning he tried to make it go away with the scene remaining unchanged was taken away. If his death didn’t change his family as a whole it was all for nothing and that is devastating to Touya to learn of how his family find him dead and didn’t change make it feel like he never existed in the first place not having anyone see you or even look at you it feels like you don’t exist.
He had hope, but it was in vain.
There was one thing that was important when Touya was coming home he desperately craved validation but not just from from his father but his family as well he was desperate of having his family to look at him too that's why he remained at home to get his family to see him that's why in the present he was angry because they couldn’t provide it.

Next panel Touya is praying to the altar, he is praying to the self who died that day then by finding a new purpose is to get revenge on Endeavor for all the abuse he put him through Touya planned on dying ever since he became Dabi what could get through to Endeavor is his death wasn’t enough? Then he decided to get through to him by ruining Endeavor by turning himself into a villain planning for a decade for his revenge on Endeavor he was willing to put everything on the line for his revenge his goal he had no intention to live or be careful he only lived for vengeance he wasn’t going to live a happy life as this didn’t seem to ever possible since the accident and Endeavor abuse crushed any hope to live a happy life since one he had for his family to be happy was gone so avenge himself as the final thing he could do to live to get revenge is his new purpose.
It was once stated his body wouldn’t last for a month, but Touya isn’t a fool. He knows that his body won’t last; that's why he decided to die after he got his revenge on Endeavor. So his body is held together by his resentment this emphasizes that he wouldn’t let his body die that easily Touya has a lot of tenacity and powerful emotions to keep him alive however he is not only held together by his resentment but also his quirk some unknown element that keeps him alive heavily notes that it was Touya’s ice part of his quirk keeping his body alive.
What did Touya do on the streets as Dabi? That is something we might never know since it's not important; what's important is how he got there.
