Living on the edge (or outside!) of your comfort zone, is not always easy. This cliff walk in Vancouver last year, made me think of how we sometimes need to trust ourselves, and the environment around us, and head in the direction we want to go or explore. Even though it may be frightening the first (or second, third, and even fourth time around). Move forward in a way that is just outside of your comfort zone. Hold on to the excitement and fear, and remember everyone has different levels of comfort; move at your own pace, but always try to move forward. The conference I attended and presented at was on Facing Forward: Innovation, Reflection, and Action. What a great theme!! I watched this movie, One Week, a few years ago. It asks, “So the question becomes, or should have been all along...what would you do if you knew you only had one day, one week, or one month to live?” The movie follows Ben Tyler #joshuajackson, as he rides a motorcycle from Toronto to British Columbia. It’s a reflection of a series of past life moments, and present ones, that have changed the course of his journey and others. Sometimes life throws you a twist…in my case, one year a go today, an #ovariantwist. Planning to meet some wonderful friends that evening, life had another plan. At 8:30am I started feeling excruciating pain and could barely walk. I was on the phone doing an interview, and held on until the very end of the call. And then texted a few friends to see if they could take me to the hospital. I could never have predicted that less than 12 hours later, I would have my first ever surgery…to remove a 9cm #ovariancyst. Yes, NINE cm. I’m starting to celebrate these moments...”pain-aversaries?!” And other atypical moments...this is the email I sent to my friends who provided so much laughter and support at this time one year ago. That was the most amazing thing, and worth honoring and celebrating. There were So Many wonderful and hilarious moments, in the midst of this excruciating pain and recovery. —————————————————— Dear, dear friends, Despite what I just went through, excruciating pain and then unexpected surgery for the first time, in my life, (and who's kidding a pretty crazy and 'effed up last few years)...you all continue to make me feel like, and I do feel like, one of the luckiest people in the world. I am so grateful for your love, kindness, and support. And laughter, even though painful at times, like before and after surgery ; ) Through texts and/or in person. But much needed nonetheless. Without it, I don't know where I would be...thank you so much. It makes me smile thinking of the good memories, laughter, and funny moments -- they keep me going more than you can ever imagine -- and the unconditional support. I am forever and ever grateful. When realizing the photo on the left did not fit into the frame (after looking forever for frames), we just stuck it over. It’s imperfect, just like me. Not everything in life is a “perfect” fit. The (Un)Common Threads...

Weaving life together, one experience/idea/conversation at a time...

I would say I am an excellent weaver of ideas/experiences...just not of actual threads or yarn. 

When people ask questions that usually require a simple response, such as “where are you from?”, “what’s your background?”, or “please briefly introduce yourself,” I always find myself struggling to provide the most concise answer. It’s hard not to place my answers in context. The response is never a straight forward one, as my background is extensive and diverse.

I was born in India and grew up in Prince Edward Island (Canada). My older brother was born in Prince Edward Island. My mom flew back to India, I was born there, and then came back to Canada when I was seven months old. So, when asked where I am “from,” what feels right for me to say is: I was born in India, grew up in PEI, and now live in Ontario. I still consider myself “from PEI,” even though Ontario has been home for several years...

The threads that tie my experiences together are my continuous enthusiasm for learning, an inquisitive mind, a sincere passion and commitment in working with and for others, and a natural ability to connect ideas, things, or people together that may (initially) seem unconnected. These threads, coupled with my life experiences, have provided (and continue to provide) me with fresh insights...

Reflecting on exciting new paths and new directions. Life has been such a journey to date -- a line not straight. For me, following my diverse passions and interests are vital (as coffee, nature, being by water, and breathing air) and also living by my values...

I have come to realize how much my values are important to me. When my values are threatened, that is when I have been or become most unhappy. When living, working, and breathing my values, I feel aligned and have a tremendous sense of inner peace. And a great sense of joy, excitement, and fulfillment.
