Nodding a hell of a lot to all that. Yes. Exactly. Might I add one more thing though? The thing that affects me most?

Ajaw's lore aligns well enough with either the 4th lord or the 10th, I personally prefer the 10th for flavor but that's not the point. Point is: he was sealed for millennia, 2 at the very least. He spent sooooo long in what I imagine might have been empty space since he was sealed inside an artifact (Kinich's wristband I think, Ben 10 style) and I don't think the people that put him there would care much for interior design. He was left alone, with nothing at all but his own fading memory for millennia. And now Kinich is constantly sealing him away for a day or two, for everything and nothing

It must drive him insane, to frequently relieve that endless moment of nothing, to not know if you'll ever get out again because "what if that was the last straw?" I have. So many thoughts about this in specific and it really hurts me that he's probably so traumatized about it but plays it off with bravado and aggression and not even the writers of the game take him seriously

I know that I already have like 5 million unfinished fics I should be working on instead, but I'm tempted to write a fic that's just a rewrite of the 5.8 Archon Quest where basically everything is the same except Ajaw gets to be an actual character with an actual role in the archon quest that is literally about part of his lore and in which he is confirmed without a doubt to be one of the Thirteen Sovereign Lords in.

Because like. what the fuck was that.

I've complained about this many times and you'll hear me complain about it forever probably, but I hate how as we get more information about the dragonlords (which lead us to piece together that Ajaw is one of them, followed up by this very Archon Quest confirming it), Ajaw just gets treated worse and worse. We learn about his lore that he was once great and powerful, and there were several others like him. We learn that he's now really the only one left (since Ixlel/CL-09 dies at the end of her quest and CL-11 was split in half and later died for realsies in the archon quest). We learn from Kinich's character stories that Ajaw isn't antagonistic all of the time and also that he was sealed under a mountain for a very long time.

and what is done with this information? absolute fucking nothing

Ajaw is treated like a yappy little dog at best and basically a punching bag at worst. He's almost entirely kept out of the Archon Quest that's literally about part of his lore and centers around a character connected to him. Kinich locks him in a box for three days and then has Cacucu bully him, all over Ajaw somewhat rudely (and not even that rude for Ajaw specifically) brushing off Kinich questioning him about him acting weird about Ineffa, and this is played for laughs. Like it's totally okay that they're doing something that would be fucked up to do to anyone and wouldn't be treated comedically if done to any other character, but because Ajaw is mean and egotistical it's not a cruel thing to do.

He should have been a more important and involved character in the archon quest that centers around his lore. That's like if we got a new archon quest specifically about Old Mondstadt and Venti only appeared twice in the entire quest.

like, I know it's really not that big of a deal because at the end of the day these are fictional characters from a gacha game but at the same time I don't think anybody likes when one of their favorite characters is being actively disrespected by the writers.

But yeah. I want to do a rewrite of the new Archon Quest to make it less fuck awful to Ajaw because out of all of the Natlan Archon Quests, this is the one that it would make the most sense for him to be more heavily involved in.

Ajaw was sooooo fucking disrespectd in the 5.8 archon quest. I am livid, I am going insane, I am having many big feelings about it.

(I use us a lot but I mean like the traveler/player)

For context, I've known Ajaw was confirmed to be a dragon lord since the volcano quest, you know, the one where you go into the volcano? From Varesa's patch? That one's about the dragon sovereigns and that time, just like Ochkanatlan, but this one has a few documents you can read if you go a little out of your way to find, they're right there (except for one, it's obvious but a tad hard to reach) but they are optional. In those documents you get records of meetings between the dragon lords and in one it is mentioned that the 10th lord has been missing because he (yes, he, back on that in a bit) was imprisoned by humans, deceived into being sealed off ALIVE under a mountain. On a later file we get the name of all the dragon lords, this is the only one that they're all present for, the impeachment of Kulkulkan. Anyways, from this we learn that the 10th lord is "Wings of Lofty Isolation" Aj (bla bla bla). I'm not writing the entire name cause those are hell to write but the name starts with Aj. This matters because all dragon lords have gendered names or maybe the prefixes to the name is like a pronoun or something, regardless. All female DLs are Ix and all males are Aj.

So. We have a confirmed male dragon lord sealed in the mountains. And by the end if the quest we also get word that there's a dragon lord still alive (10 died against humans, we know one was executed, this leaves two actually but the game does not care cause saying only one is more fun apparently, could have also died later and only 1 remain, whatever)

Ever since meeting Ajaw I decided to take him seriously, if he says he's a dragon lord then sure, he's a dragon lord, I think that was funny. And then I got waaaay too attached to him and Kinich and tried digging up as much lore on them as possible. Kinich got him from some underground ruins. You see where this goes right?

So Ajaw was pretty much confirmed to be a dragonord since then.

And now there's the 5.8 archon quest. (Spoilers)

In that quest it was confirmed that Ajaw was a dragon lord. Like. For real. It is canon. Ajaw is a dragon lord and no one can take that from him. Except he's loosing his memories but that does change who he is.

And gods know this quest tried to change it. I loved it, lovely quest, but I haaaaaate the fact that they completely mishandled the entirety of Ajaw's character.

Firstly: why was Chasca the one to find Ineffa? Sure, she lives in that area, it's not uncommon for her to find people and stuff but there's one thing that makes this the less ideal option. Kinich was looking for Ineffa. On purpose. He was on a job to find her and it would have made total sense for him to be th one to find Ineffa, could have even asked help from the traveler due to them being more familiar with stuff from other nations. This would've opened the door to Ajaw to get more than one sus behavior moment. He could've been unusually quiet for way longer and he could've acted strange while we went to Xilonen and stuff. You wanna know why it was Chasca doing this and not Kinich? Because she's on the banner. And don't even come with the whole "but her story is about belonging so she can relate to Ineffa" this was not Ineffa's quest. This was an archon quest. Plus, you gonna tell me that mister "raised himself in the woods since a young age after his abusive dad died" Kinich doesn't have stuff about belonging in his character story? Cause I am completely willing to yap about that too

Secondly: why was Citlali even here at all?? She was not alive at the time of the information she passed us and apart from the mental speak party trick there was nothing character specific that required her to be the one to be present. It would've been much better if Ajaw had been with us the entire time as we and Kinich fix Ineffa up to send her off. He could've let the information about sovereign rulers slip more naturally instead of we bing told by someone that wasn't even there, just heard it from Kinich. Plus, I fucking hate the way Ajaw literally being tortured (sealed away in isolation for three days and nights) is played for shits and giggles. The guy was canonically sealed away from millennia, you cannot tell me he wouldn't freak the fuck out every time he's sealed away for too long. Plus, it was kinda bad writing/disrespectful to the players that put in the work to piece the lore together only to them have it reduced to 3 paragraphs that are used as a tool to further the plot along. It was not given the importance it should've, we've known Ajaw for 8 patches now, the traveler fought a war by his side, no matter how mean and awful he is there should be some sort of reaction to the reveal, especially since we've had bigger reactions for less and even way bigger reactions for similar stuff (venti being barbatos for example). And why was Citlali here? Because she's on the banner. This one gets no excuse, she did nothing someone else couldn't do better, she's only present to push banner sales.

Third: why did we only focus on Ineffa? This was not a character story, there's no need to focus on a singular character or their story I get it that it's only an archon quest for the purpose of being the ticket to Nod-Krai but it was an archon quest regardless, no other archon quest focuses this hard on a single character. And. Even then. Even if it was Ineffa's quest. Why was Ajaw barely present? This is his story as much as Ineffa's if not more, he still remembers some stuff obviously, Ineffa didn't remember anything. And for a quest all about remembering and forgetting it sure didn't care about the alive dragon lord that's currently forgetting all of his past. He could've been so interesting in this quest, him trying desperately to remember while Ineffa fights with maybe thinking forgetting is better. She says that her processors work better after the memory loss, why not make it a point of her thinking that she's better off without and having Ajaw be the driving force to drag them further in? He's a menace and all, could still bully him. So why was Ineffa the total focus? One because she's new, makes sense, and two, say it with me folks, because she's on the banner for this patch

Fourth and worst: at the end they call Ineffa/the 11th lord "the last dragon sovereign". This is. A fucking blatant lie. Ajaw is still right there!! What do they mean the last one, Ajaw is still there, there are two, why are they erasing his identify as a dragon lord after using it as a tool for plot progression? And then in the end not even letting him comment on everything? Sealing him in the box as punishment? Punishment for what? He did nothing that time, it was just for comic relief. He should have said something, anything about it, it's his past, he wasn't included, let him at least say his two cents.

And finally, why do I care so much? Because to Ajaw his pride, his dignity, his title, is everything he has left. He has little power left, his memories are fading, all he has is a fragmented recollection of a time where he was worshipped as a dragon lord, that's all he had for millennia, broken memories of his prime. And this quest shits on it, strips him of his dignity with frankly cruel jests for no reason and doesn't even allow him a space in his story while actively pretending he doesn't exist. It's a disrespect of Ajaw's character by the writers themselves.

And no, I don't care that he was certainly evil and that he's a stupid brat that annoys everyone and threatens everything. He is still worth of dignity as a character. He is not a tool for plot progression, he is a character. Worst characters that did worse shit get more dignity than this and he's technically playable through Kinich. This also hurts cause Kinich and Ajaw had so little screen time through 5.0-5.8 and Kinich didn't even have his en voice until recently so this really was their last and best time to shine

I don't know what I want with this, I'm just sad. And I see a lot of people not caring and they can continue not to care and shit on Ajaw, but I want to at least pay my respect to one of my favorite characters, The Almighty Dragon Lord K'hul Ajaw
