It's been a long, busy, wacky year -- or it was in 2013 -- but one of my resolutions for this one was to finally allow myself more time to put together more updates here. Here are a few articles of interest you can expect in upcoming months, starting February! Hooray.

What did you think of the Phil Urich Green Goblin and the various Hobgoblin?
Phil Urich is a character I am fond of despite myself, I'll admit -- I thought his run as the Green Goblin was pretty fun, though I don't have any in-depth opinions about it. His Goblin mini-series, likewise, was enjoyable, but as a character I am not terribly invested in him outside of his Goblin stint/familial relation with Ben Urich/his role in Spider-Girl. I am not fond of him as Hobgoblin.
As for the others, I feel similarly! I have some fondness for Ned Leeds and I like him as a character, but in a distant kind of way. Of the "big three" I definitely like Kingsley the most and Macendale the least, but I appreciate them all in their own ways! They played such a big role in Harry Osborn's Green Goblin arc (and Kingsley of course has played a role in Norman's, too), how can I not? However, like with Urich, my investment with them doesn't extend too far outside their involvement in Norman and Harry's storylines so there's not really much more I have to say about them. I like them but I don't love them.
I have some character bias, I admit it.

Oh yeah, for sure; I was always very much okay and interested in the baby May plot as a lead-in to the Spider-Girl franchise, which was so well-executed there. Would that it was actual main continuity canon, honestly, even if BND made a retroactive mess of that whole storyline.
Win some, lose some, that's some potential that went sadly underutilized before it was mangled.
Hi. I'm a fellow Norman fan too. He's my number 1 Spider-Man/comic book villain. I was wondering what your thought of the Revelations storyline where Norman was brought back from the dead, since it's a hotly debated topic. I personally adore it and think it might just be the best example of Norman as a villain ever.
Hi! :)
Now, forgive me if I ramble a bit. It’s been some months since I’ve pulled Revelations off my bookshelf to re-read so I’m not going to break anything down in epic detail this time around. That being said…
As I got into a bit here, I am very pro- Norman being brought back from the dead and I think that while the transition was not completely smooth or perfectly handled due to some behind-the-scenes disagreements at the time, a lot of great stories came of his resurrection. The Revelations storyline I think started out very strong and I really loved how it played with the dynamics of Norman’s various relationships with not just Peter and MJ, but Flash, Ben Urich, J.J.Jameson, Liz and Normie. There was a lot of sharp and very well handled tension and emotion — which paved the way to one of my favorite pages of all time — and really established Norman quickly and effectively as a significant figure back in Peter’s life. He wasn’t reintroduced and then forgotten, nor was the effect of his death or the legacy of pain he left behind forgotten, either. He became even more threatening, but in a “shown not told” way. (Which is good.)
Now… that arc did eventually trail off into some weird directions which I was less fond of — honestly all the parts that dealt with baby May or Aunt May right up to that arc’s “conclusion” (directly before RotGG) were questionable to bad, though things luckily picked up again strongly with the Revenge of the Green Goblin storyline. Revelations itself, though? Definitely a favorite.

Hey, great blog. I was wondering what you thought of the resurrection of Norman Osborn. Were/are you for it or against it? I was also wondering if you can post some scans from the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2. Thanks. Also, what are some of your LEAST favorite Norman Osborn stories? Especially post-resurrection. I'm thinking of the Gathering Of The Five. Yeeeesh! That was terrible! Where can we get answers? Where do you respond?
Hi anonymous! Great questions. I'm sorry it took me so long to get to this, this blog has sort of been on a hiatus as I take care of life, but I'll do my best to answer ;)
1) My take? Well, I thought ASM #122 was a great issue, undoubtably, and part of a great story. The Clone Saga, certainly, far less strong. However… overall, while there are things about it I like and things that I don't, I think that bringing back Norman was a good thing. I have different feelings regarding Harry's resurrection (feelings I won't muddle this response with!!) but it boils down to: ASM #122 was still very, very early in Norman's canon, and I think as good it was, there were still more stories to tell with Norman. Part of what makes him so fascinating is his ability to survive and better himself, recover from his mistakes and leave destruction in his wake, and even if some of his stories have been shaky (and some others very strong) I think it's been to his benefit as a character to develop in more dimension. I like what he brings to the narrative of the Spider-Man mythos -- the menacing sense of futility, combined with the conflict that Osborns in particular provide, combined with the fight he inspires in Peter -- and I like seeing him fit into the greater context of the Marvel universe because, as a character, he really had (and has) tons of potential. I'll make no secret that overall, I loved the Dark Reign event.
I think, like with any character resurrections, there are pros and cons, but in Norman's case I don't think he nor the stories attached to him have become weaker for it. I say that as someone who is not too fond of resurrection storylines! There is something in particular about his that really makes him more haunting and threatening, rather than… I don't want to say a "one hit wonder," he was more than that, but if he'd have stayed dead I'd have felt wasted opportunity there.
2) Yes I do have scans! I've just put some in the queue, so you can expect to see them on the blog shortly. :)
3) Least favorite stories! Oh boy. Sins Past is an easy one (more on that here), but the Clone Saga wrap-up also suffered major flaws. The Aunt May reveal, the mess that was everything about Gathering of the Five (except for the follow-up in Revenge of the Green Goblin), and anything tied into the recent Green Goblin story happening in Superior Spider-Man if in fact that is Norman. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few issues here and there, but as far as story arcs I think I've hit the major veins.
Thanks for writing and I'm so sorry again for the wait!

The time has finally come. Do you know how long I've waited to offer you this prize, followers? Well -- a while. It is time for fuckyeahnormanosborn's first follower-milestone giveway, so, you ask, what are the prizes?
A copy of the Osborn: Evil Incarcerated TPB signed and customized by Kelly Sue DeConnick (pictured above) (thank you again, Kelly Sue, for your tremendous generosity!)
A copy of Dark Reign: The Goblin Legacy (I have an extra copy!)
A TPB copy of either Revenge of the Green Goblin or Death of the Stacys (winner's choice; I'll order it and have it shipped to your address)
A custom drawing from me, the blog owner (doesn't even have to be Norman Osborn related, if you'd prefer something else)
And a surprise!
How can all that be yours? The rules are simple:
Reblog this! Only reblogs count as an entry, but only one. I won't count multiple reblogs as multiple entries.
Don't enter with multiple blogs, giveaway blogs, etc; be fair, one entry per person.
Although this is a follower giveaway, you don't have to be following in order to participate. You also don't have to be in the US! I'll ship wherever.
Have an open askbox so that I can contact you easily if you win! If I don't hear from you after two days I'll try again, and if another two days pass I'll choose a new winner.
This will run until May 25th. Two Saturdays from now.
That's all! Play fair, everyone, and thanks again to all FYNO's followers for sticking with me. I'll reward you all with more goodies very soon.

I try not to get hung up on posting about casting news, but now that it's official: here is who ASM The Movie (TASM?) fans can look forward to in the sequel. I don't doubt he could do well in the role.

Chris Cooper Cast As Norman Osborn in Marc Webb’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′
Academy Award-winning actor Chris Cooper (American Beauty,Adaptation) has signed on to play the nefarious Norman Osborn in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, according to THR.
A pivotal character in the Spider-Man universe, Norman Osborn is president of Oscorp Industries and the alter-ego of Green Goblin. In Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, Norman Osborn is briefly mentioned by Oscorp executive Ratha (Irrfan Khan) as “terminally ill” – which is why Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) has been experimenting with combining human and animal DNA – to create a cure.

Thanks for posting and answering my question about Norman's "deal" with Memphisto! Except for forced plot devices like OMD, it's odd IMO for Memphisto to apparently grant anyone a wish without a "hitch", so to me the fan idea of Norman making such a deal can still be explained with his amnesia being the "hitch" that Memphisto added to their deal. Thanks again!
No problem at all, my anonymous friend. That's what I'm here for, after all! :) It's definitely an interesting theory, for sure; I honestly say if that's your preferred story there's no harm in sticking to it! Nothing is ever impossible in comic books.
