had my second high definition viewing of atsv in the theater today and here are my favorite details that i missed due to being overwhelmed on my first viewing:
LONG AF POST:
-gwen is literally wearing a rainbow shaped trans pride pin on her jacket with her prom outfit. she's soooo so canon trans <3
-captain stacy HAS A TRANS FLAG PATCH ON HIS POLICE UNIFORM JACKET?????? when i'm telling u my eyes popped out of my head 😳 SHES SO CANON TRANS!!!
-poster outside miles's guidance counselor's office reads: "visions sciences: telling you your story".
-parallel of miles's and gwen's dad kicking things out of general exasperation towards the beginning and end of the movie respectively
-when miles as spidey is talking to his dad and giving him advice (for himself) there's a reference to miles possibly reading vonnegut? (maybe in class??) "if this isn't nice what is" is a collection of kurt vonnegut's commencement speeches. (literally subtitled "advice to the young". the writers were extremely clever for this reference. if not reading it in class, miles has been searching up life advice on his own)
-i barely caught this but i'm PRETTY sure that in miles' room near his door there's a MICHELLE OBAMA presidential race sticker??? was president obama in the earth-1610 dimension michelle obama?? iconic if so
-fedex on earth-1610 is REDEX
-gayatri seems like they took elements of both gwen (police dad) and mj (young model) for her background as i believe i caught her visible on a "zomato" ad billboard (which appears to be the earth-50101 version of ubereats)
-i spent all of hobie's scenes trying to pick up the details of his many pins; but the only one that i could really make out with the quick shot changes besides the union jack pin was the one right above it, which is a three-leaf clover. i wondered if maybe it had some kind of significance to maybe irish independence or smth but i couldn't find anything online that backed that up so not sure what it means. if u know pls drop it in the replies.
-hobie's boots are definitely NOT ladder laced. i KNOW there is concept art and poster art of him with ladder laces but in the actual movie they are 100% crossed. also unlike the poster art, both boots have blue laces, not one blue, one yellow/orange. i wanted to be all on board the ladder lace code train but i'm pretty sure they just made his laces blue so that they could contrast against the red boots and be spidey colors. they probably abandoned the ladder lace part of the visual when someone realized what blue ladder laces meant in lace code. "HAS hobie killed a cop," you ask? given his comic backstory i'd say the odds are HIGH. but i would bet they didn't want people to think that since he's gone through canon event asm-90 ("a police captain close to spider-man is killed by falling rubble during a battle with a nemesis") that there's any possibility THAT was the cop he killed and he's proud of it (since it's supposed to be all abt character development from the ✨trauma✨ of the event)
-during the whole "intervention" scene, while all the other spider-people are facing directly in towards miles and miguel from wherever they are standing in the circle, hobie is the only one whose back is turned. he watches most of the scene over his shoulder. also, during a couple shots facing miles before the entire society of spiders show up, hobie is separated in the shot from all the other main spiders (Peter B, Gwen, Jess, etc) BY MILES. he is visible over one shoulder and everybody else is visible over the other. these two details are great signals of hobie having already MORALLY turned his back on miguel's authoritarianism, as well as giving a nice inverted "devil/angel on the shoulders" nod.
-peter b asks miguel to take a picture of him and mayday since it's her first chase; miguel brushes him off but mayday understands and uses her webshooter to click the camera button on peter b's phone and take a selfie without him noticing 😂😂😂 shes everything to me
-when miguel is pinning miles to the train, after gwen and peter b have caught up, there is a very fast moment when miles calls for help ("PETER!!") and peter doesn't reply to him, but calls out to miguel to calm down (smth like that) instead 🥲 peter for the love of god step up your mentor game and look out for this kid i can't handle it anymore
-when gwen takes the watch hobie made her out of the box, the screen is briefly visible and reads "project botleg". bootleg -> bot -> "botleg"; I SEE YOU HOBIE. people think he's so cool (and he is!!) but he's also just as much of a dork as all the other spiders. what a goofball
-in miles-42's room, a speed bag/speed ball/maize ball is attached to his wall near the door. there are other substantial differences to their rooms, but i think this is clearly a reference to uncle aaron-42's large presence in miles-42's life, given the association from both movies of aaron with the punching bag and miles getting guidance from him/looking to him for support.
-in addition to all the miles-1610 vs miles-42 prowler vs spidey reflection imagery in the end credits, guess who else has several moments of flashing from spider-man colors (red and black at least) to prowler colors (purple and green)?? miguel, that's who. miguel and miles-42/uncle aaron-42 team-up in beyond the spiderverse? or just an extra parallel for the antagonists sharing goals/possibly methods?
OKAY ANYWAY if ppl want i can try and dig up images of some of these but i figured that would make this post long af so that's all for now folks!! go see across the spider verse again and marvel at how much more fine detail you find like me 🕸🕸🕸

I feel so bad for Gwen during the scene when Miguel is explaining canon event's to miles. Because in near enough every spider man story the Stacy's play massive roles.
The three events of the captains death that Miguel shows are all captain Stacy. Asm 90 is his comic death, the amazing spider man 2 clip is his movie death then we see a third animated one where the spider man says his name.
Tumblr media
And Gwen Is looking directly at it in this scene(or at the floor I can't really tell) , because after miles finds out it's Gwens dad he looks over at her.
Tumblr media
Gwen has seen her dad and probably herself die over and over in these canon event conversations she looks so numb to it. It could also possibly play into the part where she didn't want to go home as well as what we've see in the movie, if shes not there he can't die, it also plays into why she didn't go see miles for so long is because she's seen her canon event she knows there's a high chance she could die, like a lot of Gwen's (from what I've seen) die round the age of 18.
And we know she knows about it because of the clock tower screen, when she says her falling in love doesn't end well. I kinda hope it plays a bigger role in btsv because Gwen Is much braver than I am because I would never leave the house again if I found this out.
My poor angel 😭

“Time After Time” & TRN-660’s Canon Event
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The diagram above was created by a writer and producer of ATSV and it demonstrates how canon events in the Spider-verse works. One specific part of the diagram to pay attention towards are its nodes showcasing a canon event that are based on actual storylines from the Amazing Spider-Man (ASM) comics. One of the examples shown above is the node presenting ASM-90 (ASM Issue #90), the issue where a police captain, ASM’s case being George Stacy, dies. If all these canon events were to be based on actual comics from ASM then what issue could ASM-5-36 (the node that was once attached to Gabriella’s universe) be referring to?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s possible that ASM-5-36 is referring to ASM Volume 5 Issue #36 titled “Time After Time,” which coincidentally enough has Miguel making an appearance. The comic itself focuses on Peter trying to stop Doctor Doom with him getting help from LYLA. Simultaneously, this is also the comic where Miguel goes to an island in the present day and reunites with Tempest and their son, Gabriel, which provides closure for their story from the 2014 comics. With this comic in mind, this could mean that the canon event ASM-5-36 is referring to is Miguel settling down and having a family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Granted, there are still plenty of differences between what happens in the comic versus what is shown of the alternate dimension in the movie. For example, ATSV shows alt Miguel having a daughter, living in Nueva York in the year 2099 considering his streamlined fashion and futuristic city background, and that he likely isn’t Spider-Man and/or doesn’t have Spider powers since he’s never been shown to wear the sm2099 suit and his eyes are brown (thus lacking the red eyes Miguel-928 gained when he first got his powers), along with the identity of Gabriella’s mother being ambiguous. Nonetheless, the canon event of Miguel having a family is likely based on ASM v5 issue #36 and is one of the defining events of Gabriella’s universe.

While it's still up to debate among fans whether disrupting Canon Events in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse destroys universes, several such events were featured prominently in Sony Pictures' animated sequel.
When Miguel O'Hara gave Miles Morales his lecture on Canon Events, he defined them as "chapters that are a part of every Spider's story, every time. Some good. Some bad. Some very bad."
However, despite what Miguel said, that doesn't mean that every Spider-Person has the same Canon Events or experiences them the same way.
Every Canon Event in Spider-Verse 2
1.) Spider Bite
In both the comics and Spider-Verse films, the origin for most Peter Variants involved being bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, bestowing them spider-like powers.
Tumblr media
Not all of them would get the same abilities from this bite, with Peni Parker being a prime example, but it's no surprise for it to be a Canon Event for nearly all of them with a handful of exceptions.
Tumblr media
One exception is Miguel O'Hara, who audiences saw injecting himself with a mysterious green liquid, foreshadowing to non-comic fans that the source of his powers wasn't a spider bite. Miguel even acknowledged his unique status among Spider-People in his inner monologue: "...I'm not like the others."
2.) First Loss
The most defining moment of Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man was, without question, the death of Uncle Ben. Peter B. Parker best expressed this event's significance to Miles when his orientation turned into an intervention:
"If not for Uncle Ben, most of us wouldn't be here, Miles, and all the good we did—it wouldn't have been done."
Tumblr media
But as Peter said, "most of [them]" wouldn't be there. So for other Spiders, instead of Uncle Ben, it was another uncle, a father, or even a best friend.
Across the Spider-Verse puts this Canon Event under one umbrella, making it more a Spider's first loss that leads them to learn their first crucial life lesson, good or bad, on their road to being a hero.
Tumblr media
It's the defining Canon Event that instills in them the mantra of Spider-Man: "With great power comes great responsibility."
3.) Upside-Down Kiss
One of the few "good" Canon Events on this list (that didn't originate from the comics) is the upside-down kiss from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
Tumblr media
This would be its own Canon Event for multiple Spiders because, at least in the case of Raimi's Peter Parker, it was when they finally got to kiss the person they were only brave enough to love from afar before getting their powers.
Tumblr media
One shot from Across the Spider-Verse paralleled this iconic moment when Gwen was preparing to leave Miles' universe. These two may eventually share their own upside-down kiss in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, fulfilling this Canon Event.
4.) The Death of a Captain
The only Canon Event on the list to have a designation (ASM-90 (The Amazing Spider-Man #90), Miguel described it as "a police captain close to Spider-Man dies saving a kid from falling rumble during a battle with an arch-nemesis."
Like a Spider's first loss, this Canon Event isn't restricted to Captain Gregory Stacy from the comics but encompasses multiple Captains "close to Spider-Man." It was also revealed that this event already happened to Peter B. Parker, Jessica Drew, and Hobie Brown and that the same will soon happen to Gwen and Miles.
Tumblr media
However, Gwen realizes that with her father quitting the police force, he's seemingly avoided his untimely death. This proves to her that Canon Events aren't unavoidable nor preventing them will ending the universe.
Tumblr media
It further strengthens her resolve to save Miles and his father from The Spot, with the help of Peter B. Parker and the rest of her newly formed Spider-Band.
5.) The Death of Gwen Stacy
The second most defining moment of Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man was the death of Gwen Stacy and his failure to save her. But what was another tragedy for Peter Parker was no doubt an existential nightmare for this film's Gwen Stacy, who likely learned the fate of her endless Variants after joining the Spider-Society.
Tumblr media
It's also, unfortunately, the reason why she's so hesitant to pursue a relationship with Miles since "in every other universe, Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man, and in every other universe, it doesn't end well."
This is something that already nearly happened to Pavitr Prabhakar's girlfriend Gayatri Singh, another Variant of Gwen Stacy.
Tumblr media
6.) The Birth of Venom
The only event on the list to focus on one of Spider-Man's supervillains is the birth of Venom, who would hound the web-slinger for years before becoming an anti-hero (or dying).
Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker from Spider-Man 3 and a Variant of Jessica Drew are shown struggling with the alien (or Earth-made) Symbiote, while others depict Eddie Brock or Anne Weying transforming into Venom and She-Venom.
The last Spider shown is interesting, as it's seemingly this film's Gwen Stacy turning into her Venomized counterpart, Gwenom; she debuted in Spider-Gwen #24 and used the Symbiote to go on a path of vengeance when her father was put in a coma.
7.) "If This Be My Destiny...!"
One of the most character-defining moments of Peter Parker's superhero career was when he saved himself from a literal ton of debris in The Amazing Spider-Man #33, the concluding issue of the "If This Be My Destiny...!" story arc.
The reason this was monumental for the character is that it was the first time he displayed what would become his most defining trait: his boundless perseverance.
Trapped, injured, and about to drown, Peter had all but given up until he remembered why and who he was fighting for and used that to gain the strength to lift the machinery off himself.
It was such an iconic moment for the character that The Spectacular Spider-Man and even the MCU's Spider-Man: Homecoming adapted this act of triumph in the face of doubt.
Considering that this happens fairly early in Spider-Man's career in the comics, it's interesting that this film's Jessica Drew seemed to experience it as an adult, pointing to Canon Events not having to happen at the same time in a Spider's superhero career.
8.) "Spider-Man No More!"
The story arc "Spider-Man No More!" is the first instance of Peter Parker quitting as the wall-crawler. Not only did it result in one of the most iconic pages in all of comics, but it also reinforced why Peter had to keep wearing the mask.
In the original story, Parker quit because he got no respect from the public for his heroic actions, which The Daily Bugle would often twist. However, after quitting, he realized that without him being Spider-Man, people that he could save would get hurt or even die.
The motivation for any Spider quitting varies, whether it's the same lack of respect, the loss of their powers, or the injury/death of a loved one. It's tempting to wonder what would make Hobie Brown, a Spider who openly declared his disdain for glory, temporarily quit.
9.) Spider-Man's Wedding
Peter Parker's editorially mandated deal with the literal devil to annul his marriage in the comics is infamous at this point. Regardless, his union with Mary Jane Watson was the status quo for over 20 years, making it no surprise that a Spider's marriage is a Canon Event.
Before the events of Into the Spider-Verse, Peter B. Parker was happily married to his MJ before they had a mutual and legal divorce over Peter's reluctance to have children. However, in Across the Spider-Verse, not only did he and MJ remarry, but they had a kid, May "Mayday" Parker.
10.) "Kraven's Last Hunt"
Another surprise Canon Event that Gwen has already experienced is a near-death confrontation with Kraven the Hunter from the iconic Spider-Man storyline, "Kraven's Last Hunt."
Gwen is shown digging herself out of her own grave, the same way Peter Parker did in Web of Spider-Man #32. She's also wearing her old costume from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (note the forearms), indicating that it already happened.
It's also something that Gwen's comic book counterpart never experienced, further showing the franchise's willingness to diverge from her depiction and reality in the comics.
11.) The Collider
It's highly suggested through Miguel's verbal (and literal) beatdown of Miles that Spider-Man destroying a world-ending collider was a Canon Event, saying that "[Miles' Peter Parker] would have stopped the collider before it ever went off" but that "instead, he died, saving [Miles]:"
"You're a mistake! If you hadn't been bit, your Peter Parker would have lived. Instead, he died, saving you! He would have stopped the collider before it ever went off! Spot wouldn't exist, and none of this would have happened!"
On top of that, one plot point is Spot scouring the Multiverse for a universe "with a full-sized collider," which he found in Pavitr's dimension. Miguel's artificial intelligence assistant, Lyla, even mentioned how "every dimension [Spot] stops at has an Alchemax."
It's possible that Pavitr would have eventually had to stop his own Alchemax from using the machine for some other nefarious purpose, but The Spot's preemptive use of it likely averted this potential Canon Event from happening.
How Spider-Verse 3 May Deny Destiny
There's no doubt that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will address Miguel's claims about Canon Events and whether breaking them has catastrophic consequences. It's already been shown through Gwen's father that averting a Canon Event is both possible and even harmless.
Of course, it doesn't mean that Miguel intentionally lied about Canon Events, as there is evidence of correlating life-changing moments between (nearly) every Spider-Person. But whether he understands them fully himself is another question.
It'll be interesting to see how Canon Events will be further explored in the reported final entry of this trilogy and how Miguel will react to his ideology being proven wrong.

do you know why the green goblin suit looks like that? it feels like such a weird mishmash of halloween (pumpkin bombs), medieval fantasy (goblin), and modern technology (glider).
The origins of the Green Goblin are pretty muddy. Lee and Ditko argued and overwrote each others' decisions a lot, and any reports on what ideas came from where are usually 50 year old half-memories. In 2002 Ditko gave a bit of an explanation for the mythology-technology mismatch:
“Stan's synopsis for the Green Goblin had a movie crew, on location, finding an Egyptian–like sarcophagus. Inside was an ancient, mythological demon, the Green Goblin. He naturally came to life. On my own, I changed Stan's mythological demon into a human villain.”
It might also help to see the Green Goblin as not just a fantasy trickster spirit (hence the ears and hat and curl-tipped boots), but a witch. It seems the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie invented the pop cultural idea that witches are green, mostly just to show off their Technicolor chops. (That might also explain the eyelashes.)
Tumblr media
In ASM #14 the Goblin flies around on a "broomstick" and shoots spell-like sparkles from the tips of his fingers. The stun-bombs are present, but we don't get to see what they look like yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In ASM #17, his second appearance, he switches to the bat-shaped glider and we get a better look at his gadgets: pumpkin bombs, but also bats, frogs, moons, spiderwebs, and ghosts. Very "eye of newt".
Later versions and adaptations usually prune out the sillier elements (RIP enormous drag eyelashes) at the expense of making the theming seem even more arbitrary than it was to begin with.
I'll also forward you to Elving's Musings "Four likely influences: Norman Osborn & the Green Goblin" as interesting reading.

I’m so excited to see you still take headcanon requests! Whenever you have a chance do you think you can do headcanons for the brothers of what their reaction is to the mc falling asleep on them vs their reaction to waking up and realizing they fell asleep on the mc? Your writing for the characters are so good!!
Thank you for your request, anon ( ˘ ³˘)♡
Falling Asleep
GN!MC x brothers (separately)
Lucifer: He is sitting on the couch in the common room with you at his side when he feels you lean against his shoulder. Lucifer will put down whatever he's working on and just watch you for a while. Human lives are short and he wants to take in all the little moments he can with you. The paperwork can wait.
He's a little embarrassed when he realizes he dozed off on your shoulder but he won't show it, his cheeks are just tinted pink from the warm fire, he swears. It's rare that he lets his guard down in front of anyone so the fact he actually fell asleep around you is... something.
Mammon: You and Mammon were watching an old heist movie on the projector screen in his room. He was about to comment on one of the lines an actor said when he noticed you'd nodded off. He smiles and leans back, deciding to tell you later. That's when you snuggle into him. He freezes. Of course he's happy you're so close to him, he just didn't expect his heart to start beating so fast. Hopefully he can calm it down by the time you wake up.
You let him sleep a while on your shoulder, your focus on the movie. It was one he'd seen hundreds of times so he probably wouldn't care if you continued watching without him. When the sound of a chase scene wakes him up, Mammon jolts awake blushing furiously. No he wasn't sleeping on your shoulder. He was just... well it doesn't matter now, human, keep watching the movie. He won't meet your eye for a good long while after this. Don't let his tsundere act fool you, he's very pleased with what happened.
Leviathan: You were halfway through an anime marathon with Levi when you started to doze off, your head bobbing until you rested it against his shoulder. Like Mammon, he would freeze but he'd also avert his eyes. This is so embarrassing to him, you of all people sleeping on his yucky otaku shoulder. To take his mind off things, he'd switch the show to a calming anime, (he doesn't want you to miss the show you were watching) anything to calm his heart rate down. Eventually he'll relax, listening to the way you breathe. It almost reminds him of ocean waves. Hey, this isn't so bad.
If he fell asleep on you, he'd panic upon waking. You were enjoying his warmth as he leaned on your shoulder but to him, nothing could be more embarrassing. He'd jump into his bathtub bed and hide under the blankets. It would be a while before you could coax him out, promising you wouldn't tease him or tell anyone about his little nap.
Satan: The two of you enjoy reading together in the library, each with your own book, but enjoying each other's company nonetheless. Sometimes you would read late into the night, so late you couldn't help nodding off. He thought you were snuggling into him out of intimacy, something he wouldn't have minded, but when he looked over at you he realized you were fast asleep, your book dangling from one hand. He carefully marked your page before watching the firelight dance over your cute sleeping face, his own book forgotten.
Satan falling asleep on you is rare, he is a night owl after all. But on the occasion that he does, you enjoy it to the fullest. You also mark his page for him because you know how annoying it is to lose your spot in a book you're reading. After a little while he'll wake up stretching, looking up at you from his place leaning on on your shoulder. He'll give a little sheepish, sleepy grin, and all of a sudden it hits him. He can see himself waking up to your smiling face for the rest of his life.
Asmodeus: You'd had a long day of shopping together and you finally got a chance to rest, the two of you lounging in Asmo's plush bed, flipping through magazines. He wanted to show you a gorgeous ballgown that was designed by one of his talented friends when he looked over to find you sleeping. A fond smile on his face, he'll put the magazines away and make sure you're in a comfortable sleeping position. Asmo will lie next to you and watch you as your chest rises and falls with every breath, occasionally stroking your hair. He's so lucky to have you.
When the magazine falls against his chest, you know he's out. You'll brush his bangs off his forehead. His sleeping face is almost angelic, it's hard to believe he's a demon. When he wakes, winking, he'll say he dreamt about you and he'll ask if you'd been admiring his beauty while he slept. Don't lie, you totally were.
Beelzebub: The two of you are having a picnic in the House of Lamentation's garden. You drift off right after you finished your dessert. Beel is used to Belphie dozing off after a meal (or really any time). He'll drape his jacket over you so you don't get cold and he'll just watch you until you wake up. He doesn't even realize how much time has passed because he's with you and that's all that matters.
Eating can take a lot out of a person, so when Beel falls asleep at the end of your picnic, you let him. His little snores are so cute. You clean up the plates as he sleeps, looking over at him every so often. As you close the picnic basket, he'll wake, blinking under the moonlight, smiling back at you. He's so happy the first thing he saw was you.
Belphegor: The two of you made a habit of hanging out together in the attic. It was quiet and away from his brothers, a plus for Belphie. He just didn't expect you to fall asleep on him, that was usually his thing. He can't help but to smile. You're so adorable. He'll slip his pillow under your head so you can have the perfect rest. And when you wake up, if you ask him if he manipulated your dreams to include him, he'll deny it.
When is he not sleeping on you, is the real question. It's become such a common part of both of your lives, as inevitable as breathing. He's a cuddler so hopefully your next few hours are free because he probably won't let you go. You're like the best pillow to him, so warm and comforting. He'll wake with a simple, groggy "Good morning" or "Good evening" depending on the time of day it is.

A ‘what if’ for y’all on this beautiful Tuesday morning
I really don’t wanna start no shit, but I just have to know…how would the fandom react if Miles and Gwen had traded places? The movie would still be amazing, but how would the discourse look if things went like this…
It was Miles that was forced to leave his universe because he messed up so bad; and in turn, the citizens of 1610 labeled him as a criminal. There is a warrant out for his arrest and when Jeff and Rio find out his identity, they don’t fully trust him because he's been lying about being Spiderman for so long. Jeff thinks he’s fallen down the same path as Aaron and Miles’ defenses fall on deaf ears.
Tumblr media
Then in comes Miguel and Jess who give him the opportunity to join the Spider Society, build on his skills, and see all of the spider people he'd missed in the past year- everyone except for Gwen because in this "what if" she's the anamoly. Peter Parker was supposed the be Spiderman of Earth-65, not his love interest who was destined to 🎲 in said reality. So now Miguel refuses to even touch that dimension cause if she still ends up 🎲ing like the others, then Earth-65 will have no Spiderman to protect it. Otherwise things are pretty chill there; GhostSpider isn’t demonized but Gwen is still having trouble making friends. She’s missing Miles and is struggling to cope with Peter’s death.
Situation presents itself where Miles gets to go on a mission on Earth-65 to keep tabs on a villain. The only condition being that he can’t visit Gwen- which he disregards of course. They swing around Chelsea, NY, share a moment on the GWB…yada yada yada. The thing is, Miles is lying to Gwen by omission. He knows that Captain Stacy is running on borrowed time and he knows that Gwen is an anomaly who was never supposed to be Spiderwoman and she might 🎲 if they fall in love. The evening goes on and he chums it up with her dad (who he knows will end up on a mural soon) then takes his leave. Gwen- who’s curiosity is piqued at the mention of the Spider Society-knows Miles is hiding something so she gets the ‘ok’ from George (who is the best dad in this au) to follow him and she wastes no time.
Tumblr media
Shit pops off in Mumbattan and because she’s ignorant to canon events, she saves Gyatri and Captain Singh and ASM-90 is interrupted. Jess is pissed, but Gwen’s not worried cause she knows she did the right thing and if this ‘Miguel O’Hara’ guy has a problem he can say it to her face. So despite Miles’ discomfort and Hobie’s dissuasion, she follows Jess to the SS anyway (low key excited she finally gets to see what Miles was talking about).
At Nueva York, she meets some more cool Spider people and bumps into old friends(it’s kinda weird how they’re all a part pf this taskforce except for her, but whatever). Miles is shitting bricks right now cause he has an idea of how things are gonna go down- still he says nothing, and tries move the group along.
Tumblr media
The time comes for Gwen to finally meet Miguel and he holds nothing back when telling her why she shouldn’t have saved those civilians. Gwen stands ten toes down on her actions until Miguel debriefs her on ASM-90. Now knowing that her father’s life is in danger, she refuses to accept the fact that she can’t save him. She looks around the room for support from her friends: Peter, Peni, Ham and gets nothing but guilt ridden glances and silence. What stings a bit more is the fact that the boy she cares about the most isn’t 100% on her side here. Even as she finds herself running for her life from a mob of Spider people trying to detain her, Miles is still on the fence- yet leaning more towards Miguel’s side. He even gives Jessica an advantage by pulling her motorcycle up to speed with her. He catches her as she's falling, eyes filled with sorrow and remorse, but it changes nothing. Her instinct tells her to cut the web. Gwen didn't know if he was helping her or capturing her and she’s pretty sure Miles didn't know either. As said before, it changes nothing.
Suddenly, they’re on a high speed tram and an irritated, adrenaline filled Miguel finally catches up to Gwen. He choke slams her onto the tram and Miles and Peter are right behind them telling him to calm down, they don’t do much else to stop Miguel. They don’t want her to get hurt, but that doesn’t mean they’re on her side. As Gwen struggles against Miguel’s hold, he drops another bomb on her. ASM-121:
“That spider shouldn’t have bit you! Your friend, Peter was supposed to be Spiderman. He wasn’t supposed to die, that was your destiny! If you disrupt one more canon event, your universe will collapse and i’ll have to pick up the pieces”
Tumblr media
This knowledge nearly destroys Gwen and the fact that all her friends knew about it, stings more. “Gwen, this if for your own good!” Miles calls out. For her own good? How? Who decides that? Gwen had no idea. In fact, Miles has been all over the place since he came to visit her. Lying about the smallest things, apparently it’s because he was hiding this from her. She knows about his situation at home, but the matter of fact is that she can’t trust him like she thought she could.
Gwen is able to fight Miguel off and escape, but not before giving Miles one last “goodbye”. Tears in her eyes and faith in him and their relationship crumbled to bits.
Tumblr media
Film ends kind of the same way, Miles bands together a team of Spider people to right his wrong and save Gwen. Gwen is trapped in a dimension where she and her father are memorialized.
I skipped a lot but you get the gist. So with that image in your mind, how inclined do you feel to defend Miles’ actions? Would you confidently say he did nothing wrong? He didn’t mean for things to get this far, he didn’t wanna hurt her, he just didn’t want to face what was waiting for him back home. Are you defending him within an inch of your life? Is he a victim? Do you think that Gwen should just swallow her feelings of hurt and betrayal to understand where he’s coming from? The trust is gone, but is she obligated to give him the opportunity to rebuild that trust? Is he still entitled to her affections? Can you see how her feelings for him would change (even just a little)? Would you be disappointed in her if she decides not to be in relationship with him after everything is said and done? Please contemplate this and be honest. What if the roles were reversed? 🤔

Okay so I’m a relatively new fan of Harold and trying to get into the fanbase but man these acronyms are A Lot….. seeing USM and MSM and SSM and JMD and WOSM……. my dude I am lost……. one crumb of guidance I beg you……….
So a lot of the time if it’s acronyms relating to the names of comics writers, I am not helpful. But here is what I can tell you
The live action universes that feature Harry are going to be referred to as the Raimiverse (the original trilogy with Tobey Maguire) and either TASM or the Webbverse, used interchangeably, to refer to The Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield)
To my knowledge, whenever someone is referring to comics under the name The Amazing Spider Man, that’s going to be called ASM instead of TASM. TASM is for movies, ASM is for comics.
There are more animated series than I can count but the ones referred to most often in here are TSSM, The Spectacular Spider-Man featuring Josh Keaton and James Arnold Taylor as Peter and Harry, USM, Ultimate Spider-Man featuring Drake Bell and Matt Lanter as Peter and Harry respectively, and MSM or MSM 2017, Marvel’s Spider Man, featuring my beloved Robbie Daymond and Max Mittleman as Peter and Harry respectively.
Confusingly, MSM is also used to refer to the current insomniac game series, though they are often referred to with some variation of the word insomniac to differentiate them and keep the tags organized. However, if something is referring to MSM 2017 it’s almost always referring to the show and if it’s MSM2 or MSM2023 in my experience it’s almost always the game. Yes, this is confusing.
Just as confusing is the fact that despite SSM is used to refer to the spectacular spider man comics and separate them from the show similar to ASM, USM is the acronym used for both the show and the comics in most instances I’ve seen. So you’re just gonna have to use context clues. Most things referencing a comic are usually going to include issue numbers which helps.
Comics arcs that commonly have their own acronyms are OMD, aka One More Day, and TCW, aka The Child Within. Sometimes you’ll also see KLH to refer to Kravens Last Hunt but that’s not nearly as relevant to Harry so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
There’s also TNAS, The New Animated Series which came out near the release of Spider-Man 2002 and is intended to continue it, but because it’s kind of terrible you’re not gonna see it often. The 90’s animated series is much better but has no acronym and will usually be specified as specifically the 90’s Animated Series.
I believe WOSM is simply referring to the World Of Spider-Man but I could be wrong. (Edit: I was wrong, it’s Web Of Spider-Man. Everyone say thanks @theopolis)
I know JMD is referring to a specific comics writer but I’m not even confident of the name of the top of my head. Because I’m not terribly proficient in the comics quite yet, I’m probably gonna ask @oliveroctavius and/or @theopolis who are far more familiar with them than I am for that and any other comics acronyms I’m missing and I hope they don’t mind the tag.
Hope this was helpful!

yes ok fine i have my gwobie shipping goggles on but i can't get over how asm 93's title sounds like a gothic romance novel or kooky 1960s creature feature b-movie. "the lady and the prowler." come on now. you're gonna name it that and expect me to root for the boyfriend and not the mysterious villain in the cloak and mask who's the only person validating the heroine's completely legit anxieties, trying to redeem himself by saving her from her doomed fate and is shooting at her crappy boyfriend the whole time?

How can you disturb an event that wasn't suppose to happen, Miguel?
Okay! I wanted to go for something more light, so I decided to make the first non-ghostflower analysis post.
Well, Analysis on the lighter sense, I will not be analyzing frames for this one. Considerate more like, a theory? Gotcha moment?
To clarify, I don't hate Miguel or think he is a bad character by any means. I feel he has a very compelling story and as aggressive as he can get, I can understand where he is coming from.
Do I still think there is really a lot of dirt to dig about this guy? Yeah but still.
Miguel's fans please don't hate me I come in peace.

This was something I realized in my last viewing, the fact that the police captain is suppose to die in a battle WITH an arch-nemesis.
Shortly after we are followed with Miles saying how The Spot will kill his dad, which seems to follow the event ASM-90, with Spot occupying the place of the arch-nemesis that The Spot now has been able to claim.
Here is the problem though, if this event is suppose to happen by the hand of an arch-nemesis, why is Pavitr having this event?
Pavitr didn't know the Spot until that day, The Spot didn't want to talk directly to him or really, any spider that wasn't Miles. So how is that Captain Singh was suppose to die if there was no enemy to make this happen?
At first, I thought this was a canon event because regardless of the presence of the Spot, Alchemax did seem to be getting ready to start the Collider, that could theoretically, cause this incident.
However after realizing that it said BY an arch-nemesis, this just falls apart.
Even if we can argue that this Alchemax possibly belongs to Kingpin's equivalent in this dimension, said character is never found, and he wasn't the one causing this incident either.
This means even if the canon event was meant to happen today, by this Collider, it should still be an anomaly that the person doing it isn't the "canon" one.
There are honestly, multiple examples of this. (Mayday, Miles's spidey should had broke the universe if he wasn't suppose to die, having full-time spiders working should also break the canon, etc)
But I decided to bring this one here because I think this is one that you can tell in a casual conversation after viewing the movie with your friends and no one would say you are thinking too hard on it.
