Dunmeris "N'wah" and Altmeris "Nebarra," are cognates descended from a lost Aldmeris word meaning "foreign," with connotations of "unwelcome," "criminal," and, especially (but not exclusively) in the former's case, "barbarian" or "slave"

Ebony and Malachite armor doesn’t bend or dent, it cracks, chips, and shatters, kinda like glass. It just so happens that these two materials are supernaturally tough, making it really, really, really hard to do that compared to other crystals. That’s also part of why they can be made into full length swords without snapping under their own weight, unlike Obsidian.
However, this lack of flexibility makes the wearers of ebony armor even more susceptible to blunt force trauma than other armors. This happens for kinda the same reason a car is designed with built-in crumple zones. All that force gets transferred directly into the user instead of being absorbed and dissipated through the metal.
#tesblr#elder scrolls#tes#the elder scrolls#skyrim#oblivion#morrowind#ebony#malachite#“wouldn't that just make it worse than normal metal?”#i mean maybe#but we're goin by tolkien rules here#ebony is super duper light despite its toughness making it more viable than just using thicker plates or different alloys#to get that same level of protection#or smth#idfk im a nerd not a scientist#shattered armor just sounds really cool

Who or What is Xrib?
Source: Altar of Xrib, UESP, Skyrim
Xrib was an obscure Aldmeri patron of Insects in the days before recorded history. They would enjoy a brief period of reverence by the Ayleids under the Flower King Nilichi before their extermination by the Alessians.
Xrib’s influence would later reach an all-time high after the disappearance of the Dwemer, when they taught their former Falmeri slaves how to herd and cultivate the giant chaurus native to Blackreach, saving them from starvation after the disappearance of the Dwemer, who they were dependent on for food.
A mythoreductionist would likely conflate the god with the Daedra Princes Mephala or Namira, or else the elven death-god Xarxes, given their role in contemporary Falmeri burial practice.
To the other Elven races, Xrib holds little influence or legacy, save for the derived term "scrib" referring to the ubiquitous giant insects of Morrowind

In ancient times, interbreeding with the Dunmer was once thought to be the origin of Albinism in humans, and mothers, especially Nordic ones, who gave birth to such children would often be scorned or driven out of their communities for allegedly laying with ‘evil’ elves.
There is a common misconception that mixed-race children bear almost exclusively the racial traits of the mother (a child with an Altmer mother and a Redguard father, for example, would appear mostly if not entirely Altmeri). This is completely false; in actuality, children with parents of two different races may vary greatly as to which parent they emulate more and in what way, or if there is a significantly larger resemblance to either parent at all.
The sole exception to this massive variation in the inherited traits of biracial offspring is those with partial Dunmer blood. Because Dunmer racial traits are only partially genetic and are reinforced by an age-old curse, anyone with any amount of Dunmer genes looks almost entirely Dunmeri. They may have white sclera (or brown, black or green if their other parent is Mer) and their skin tone may appear a significantly desaturated tint of the skin tone of their non-Dunmer parent / ancestor. Whether the person in question is half-Dunmer with a Dunmer parent, or whether there is one singular Dunmer in their family line several generations back, the amount of Dunmeri-looking traits will not change.

do u think when martin did the whole avatar of akatosh thing at the end of oblivion the whole amulet was, like, vaporized or smth?
cuz, like, i'm tryna think about what the actual symbol of office for the mede dynasty would be, and whether it'd have something to with the remnants / broken pieces of the original amulet, symbolizing their status as remnants / broken pieces of the original empire or smth.
like, i know the red dragon crown exists and realistically they'd probably use that, maybe symbolizing like the empire's shift in purpose from (ostensibly) protecting tamriel from the horrors of oblivion / evil elves / barbarism & lawlessness / etc to power with no further meaning behind it or smth like that (tho i'd personally argue having an 'empire' at all is a perversion of the will-to-freedom / actual protection from evil the amulet originally symbolized under Alessia)
idfk, here's a poll
