Stephen Fry finally speaks out against J.K. Rowling’s views on trans people

Stephen Fry, best known as the voice of the Harry Potter audiobooks, has finally spoken out about his disappointment in J.K. Rowling and her views on trans people, which he described as “strange” and “hurtful.” In a public appearance, he called her a “lost cause, radicalised by TERF ideology,” and criticised her ongoing mockery of the trans community online — including liking transphobic posts, deliberate misgendering, commenting on trans people's appearances, and making mocking remarks about their identities. According to Fry, Rowling seems to enjoy provoking and attacking against the trans community.

Salt Lake City gets around Pride flag ban by making new flags
Salt Lake City officials have designated three human-rights flags as official city emblems to preserve their display despite a new Utah law limiting flag displays on government property.
The move ensures the LGBTQIA+, Juneteenth, and transgender flags remain visible alongside the American and Utah state flags.
Mayor Erin Mendenhall and the City Council unanimously approved adding the Sego Belonging Flag (representing LGBTQIA residents), Sego Celebration Flag (honoring Juneteenth and Black residents), and Sego Visibility Flag (echoing the transgender flag’s colors) to the city's official symbols.
This decision circumvents Utah House Bill 77, which restricts flags on government property to a limited list.

To directly challenge Idaho’s statewide prohibition on unauthorized flags over government buildings, Boise’s Mayor Lauren McLean, a Democrat, and the City Council took decisive action. As reported by the Idaho Statesman, on Tuesday, the Council formally designated the Pride flag as the city’s official flag, ensuring its continued display despite the ban.

Robert De Niro shares heartwarming reaction to his child coming out as trans
Robert De Niro has said he doesn’t understand ‘what the big deal is’ about his child coming out as trans. ‘I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is, I love all my children.’

Trans woman arrested for using women’s restroom in Florida Capitol
Marcy Rheintgen, a 20-year-old transgender woman, was arrested on March 19, 2025, in Florida's Capitol for using a women's restroom, contravening a 2023 law prohibiting transgender individuals from using public restrooms matching their gender identity.
This act of civil disobedience was planned; Rheintgen had previously notified lawmakers of her intentions, urging them to recognize the injustice of such legislation.
Despite officers initially indicating they would issue a notice rather than arrest her, Rheintgen was detained, charged with trespassing, and spent 24 hours in jail.
Her arrest sparked widespread criticism, with LGBTQ+ advocates condemning the law as cruel and exclusionary. Equality Florida’s director described it as an erosion of human dignity.
“I’m not a political activist,” she told Erin in the Morning. “I’m just a normal college student who thinks this law is wrong.”
Using bathrooms to humiliate and oppress marginalized people has a long history, also in the United States. It isn't that long ago southern "Jim Crow" states had separate restrooms for black and white people.
This tactic is used to instill fear of the marginalized group among white/cis/heterosexual people. This fear is then used to legitimize the oppression. Bathroom separation also give people the impression that the marginalized group may violate or contaminate them in some way, strengthening feelings of fear and disgust.
This is evil, plain and simple.

What happened to quality filmmaking?
Anyone who knows me knows that I love quality films. Cinema has been a great passion of mine since childhood and has accompanied me throughout my life. I can appreciate masterpieces by legends like Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese, but I also admit that I enjoy watching silly romantic comedies, high school stories, or one of the countless sitcoms that help me relax and unwind.
In recent years, we have been living in the age of streaming services, which have opened the doors to an endless array of movies and TV shows. With just a remote control in hand, we can choose from thousands of titles. We don't even mind paying for several subscriptions—Netflix, HBO Max, SkyShowtime, Amazon Prime Video, and more. But let's be honest: how many times have you aimlessly scrolled through these catalogs only to find nothing truly captivating? It feels like most of the content today is just mediocre junk.
I feel that genuinely quality films are becoming increasingly rare. Unless there's a new release from Tarantino or Scorsese, or perhaps the criminally underrated Frances McDormand appears on screen, it is almost painful to find something worth watching. Whether I'm looking for a profound cinematic experience or just something light for a cozy evening, I find myself disappointed more often than not.
Instead of originality and compelling stories, we keep recycling the same popular "dollar-makers" from Marvel, whose quality is, to put it mildly, questionable. Hollywood bombards us with yet another wave of war epics and violence-laden films—as if the real world didn't have enough of that already. And when we look at the highest-paid actor of the moment, it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I do like him, but let's be honest: he's a B-list actor who plays the same character in every movie he's in.
I worry that our expectations for films are lowering with the rise of streaming platforms. When content is so easily accessible, maybe we start to care less about its quality. Are we heading toward a future where we'll gladly watch anything—even a brown piece of matter, much like in the satirical comedy "Idiocracy"? Or is there still hope that cinema will recover and bring back those unforgettable stories that once made us fall in love with movies?

Lemkin Institute Publishes Red Flag Alert for the Anti-Trans Agenda of the Trump Administration
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security has issued a Red Flag Alert warning against the anti-trans policies of the second Trump administration, arguing that they align with a larger genocidal process.
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (LIGP), or Lemkin Institute, is a multinational non-governmental organization based in the United States.
Genocidal process
In the declaration the institute writes:
The Lemkin Institute believes that current anti-trans hysteria within the government is meant to serve three purposes within a wider genocidal process. First, the Executive Orders constitute the paper marginalization and 'paper persecution' of an identity group that has recently gained rights and greater acceptance in order to lock in evangelical support for the Trump administration. Second, the executive orders create a fictitious 'cosmic enemy' that will justify radicalization of government in general, leading to ever-more power for the executive branch; and third, the executive orders, over time, aim to normalize the destruction of identity groups by desensitizing the public to state-sponsored persecution of people based solely on their identities.
The document draws parallels between Trump's rhetoric and other historical instances of identity denial, comparing it to Russian policies against Ukrainians and Israeli policies against Palestinians. It warns that such identity erasure tactics often lead to mass atrocities.
Pseudo-science
The institute also refutes common anti-trans arguments, emphasizing that trans individuals are a small, natural part of human diversity. While the executive orders targeting trans and non-binary people appear legally sophisticated, they lack scientific validity and rely on "junk science," the institute argues.
These policies stem from long-standing conservative attacks on trans individuals, including from certain self-identified "feminists" [TERFs] who embrace a strict gender binary. The report warns that such initiatives endanger not only trans people but also all women by undermining privacy, bodily autonomy, and gender-based protections.
Furthermore, the institute argues that the administration's focus on transgender women as threats distracts from addressing real structural issues of gender-based violence.

Let us make Europe a safe haven for American transgender refugees (and we need your help)

A Dutch LGBTQ ally and activist hopes to turn the Netherlands into a haven for transgender refugees from the US. But he needs help. He asks transgender Americans to provide stories he can use to pressure Dutch politicians. We should strive to make more European countries places of refuge.
The battle for America's democratic soul is not over, and the pro-democracy forces may win. But transgender people have already become the scapegoats of fascists and religious fanatics. The Republican Party is doing all it can to erase trans people's existence through laws and propaganda.
It is time to prepare for the unthinkable: A transgender "underground railroad" to Europe.
There are already organizations out there that helps LGBTQ people escape from oppressive regimes, but it does not look like they have been prepared for an American trans exodus (see for instance The Rainbow Railroad and Immigration Equality).
I was recently contacted by a Dutch trans ally who calls himself Ned McRant online. His idea is to put up online resources that can help transgender Americans who need to flee to Europe, and in particular the Netherlands.
Formally it is already possible for transgender Americans to move to this country, but he wants Dutch politicians to get engaged in a pro-trans resettlement policy.
The American anti-trans policies
He writes:
"For the past fourteen years, I have closely followed political developments in the United States. What I have learned fills me with great concern—not only for that nation’s future but also for the global impact of its actions. The information I receive from reliable sources often diverges significantly from what is reported in Dutch news. My understanding of American history and politics enables me to recognize the seriousness of the threats at hand. The situation has escalated since Donald Trump’s rise to power. A major threat comes in the form of a vision called Project 2025, crafted by the Heritage Foundation, a fundamentalist Christian think tank. This manifesto is essentially a blueprint for transforming the United States into a theocracy, similar to nations like Iran but based on Christian fundamentalism. Although Trump denies involvement, he is already implementing parts of this plan. My personal investment in this issue stems from my unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly my friendships with transgender individuals. In the U.S., "coming out" as gay or transgender has become life-threatening. Under Project 2025, the fundamental rights of transgender individuals are being systematically dismantled. In some states, there is even talk of forcing them to de-transition a horrific process that strips them of their identity and happiness. Access to essential medication like HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is being denied, pushing many to despair and even suicide. While the Netherlands cannot stop this political madness, we can make a difference. We can offer a safe haven to those who have nowhere else to turn. Through our friendship treaty with the U.S., Americans can already settle in the Netherlands. However, specific support for LGBTQ+ refugees is lacking."
Getting stories from American trans people
Ned has sent letters to Dutch parliamentarians, making arguments similar to these. He has asked them to investigate how the country can help persecuted transgender Americans and build a support network in the Netherlands.
This approach can also be used in other European countries.
Ned says that he plans to contact them over and over again, adding stories based on the real life experiences of American trans people. To do this he needs input from transgender Americans. If you want to help, contact Ned at [email protected].
I would like input from European LGBTQ-people and allies who have knowledge and ideas about how we can help transgender refugees move to European countries. Write to [email protected] or DM Transgender World here:

Wikipedia remains a reliable source of transgender information

In the wake of recent anti-trans legislation by the Trump administration, Wikipedia has emerged as a reliable source of information on transgender topics, Assigned reports.
The online encyclopedia, maintained by a community of volunteers, has played a crucial role in countering disinformation and preserving accurate coverage of transgender history, healthcare, and rights.
As bias-driven disinformation surged from the White House, a trans editor for Wikipedia promptly alerted fellow editors in the LGBTQ+ studies group. This community-driven effort ensures that Wikipedia remains a factual resource amidst the administration's attempts to erase trans rights and dignity.
Wikipedia's editors, including trans and nonbinary individuals, have faced personal attacks and harassment while maintaining the integrity of the platform. Despite these challenges, they continue to provide unbiased and accurate entries.
Notable figures like Elon Musk have also targeted Wikipedia, urging followers to stop donating to the platform. However, the community remains resilient, with editors like "Your Friendly Neighborhood Sociologist" (YFNS) leading efforts to counteract transphobic vandalism and protect the integrity of articles.

"Win or Lose": Disney’s Transgender Bathroom Scene Leaks Online
Disney has gotten a lot of criticism for turning a trans character cis in the upcoming animated series Win or Lose.
Inside the Magic writes:
Shortly after the news broke, social media sources leaked the alleged rough draft of the transgender scene on X (formerly Twitter). @LostMediaBuster had access to the scene for a while but didn’t publicize it until they found out Pixar had removed it from the series.
Now they have shared it on X.
The scene gives a good presentation of both gender dysphoria and gender euphoria. This is a scene that would have humanized trans kids in the eyes of cis people and shown trans kids that they are not alone.
To bad Disney did not have the moral compass needed to stand up to transphobic politicians and parents.
