I only just learned this morning that in EA, the items Gale could actually consume was a small list of actually pretty good, or hard to get items. (Thanks my For You page) And I'm like, REELING over the implications.
I'm actually so upset they got rid of this. (Though it certainly makes the complaints people had at least somewhat more reasonable) But just from a story and gaming perspective, that's so much cooler. Like telling him you don't have an item isn't just a blatant lie now. The persuasion check to ask him to wait would actually mean something. Each item is either good to use in its own right or difficult to acquire (or really, both) (some leading to potential consequences like a conflict between the druids and tieflings). I think about his strange objection that remains in the game where he disapproves of both giving the Necromancy of Thay to Astarion AND to destroying the book. Like I never GOT that until I found out just this morning that it used to be one of the few items he could consume.
POWERFUL MAGICAL ITEMS!!!
Not fucking ring of color spray and kormira's locket (which she should have kept, by the way, like those dancing lights would have really helped you guys....) I can't stop thinking about the whole thing. The Idol of Sylvanis, the Staff of Crones, like the Amulet of Selune's Chosen. DAMN! Like, 1. start a war 2. have to fight a god damn hag 3. you either need to sneak past Dror Ragzlin and break into the vault or defeat him. They're not easy fights! Not to mention the other items he could eat. So many things make sense now regarding the way Gale, the player AND companions speak about his breaking down of those artifacts. Like I really don't think anyone would care if he just ate a locket now and then. But the book we got after having to defeat a fucking spider, an army of skeletons and overcome a magic mirror and traps?? THAT'S THE ONE YOU WANT TO EAT?!?! Now the frustration is placed in its proper context. We had to defeat all these knolls and two Zhentarim traders for this box and you're telling me that the item you want to consume has a beholder inside?!?!!? THAT WE COULD LET LOOSE UPON THE GOLBIN CAMP?!!? MY GODS, GALE! YOU'RE REALLY PUTTING US IN A BIND! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I love that the choice might actually matter to a playthrough, I love that later metagaming would allow you to really pick and choose which items you would go after, which you would keep and which you could give away. I love that you could miss them. I'm completely enamored by the context and drama that this brings to the quest. (Not to mention his interest in making a deal with Raphel that is implied in EA if you can't find the items, AND his insistence that there are not just magical items laying around everywhere. yeah... Okay. In full release this is simply not true.)
Imagine letting Gale have the Necromany of Thay only to find out later from Mystic Carrion that it paired with another book that would give you power AND his quest would be easier. DAMN! Time to play again! Or even just having in that moment to choose between the desires of two companions. IT'S SO INTERESTING! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PUT A MOD OUT TO BRING BACK THIS DYNAMIC!! WOW!
(To round out the potential items: Sword of Justice (fighting the Paladins if Tyr, OR losing Karlach) Disintegrating Night Walkers (Nere's boots, so, fighting him and a bunch of Duegrar) and the Shadow of Menzoberranzan (Mycanoid reward for defeating the Duegar at the beach, annoying fight and potentially making it more difficult to cross to the Grymforge (esp if you're low chrisma lol)))

🔞 NSFW Gale thoughts below 👀👀 🔞
Gale finding you reading in his bed, laying on your stomach, one of his robes draped over your naked body
Gale not being able to resist, draping himself over you.
Gale fucking you gently, telling you to continue reading
Gale chuckling in your ear as it becomes too much for you, keeping up his slow strokes as you bury your face in the bed
Gale murmuring sweetly in your ear that if you're not going to read he'll do it for you.
Gale continuing to fuck you slow and deep as he reads to you, voice deep and slow in your ear, breathing growing ragged.

Thinking about Astarion not realizing he's into dry humping. Like has Tav in his lap. They were just supposed to be making out. That's it.
But damn. The way they grind against him as they kiss him. He grabs their hips to drag them along his hardened length making sure to add the right pressure to make them mewl for him.
It's perfect. They look so amazing in his lap as his hamds force their hips to move.
"That's it, Darling. I know how badly you need it. Just behave and take this."
He is breathless and biting his lip as he feels them shuddering in his hands.
He watches the way they press against him and roll their hips. The way they kiss his jaw and comb their fingers through his hair.
He would shudder as he realized they were taking control, kissing him more feverishly. He would moan softly, hands tightening around their hips.
He whimpers softly. "Darling, wait--oh fu..." He groans when they kiss his ear and moan his name.
And then he's lost. He makes a mess of his underwear and grunts into their neck as he holds their hips tight, locking them against him as he bucks his hips up against them to feel them twitching in his hold.
He brags about this for days.
...
"Darling, I didn't even have to strip you down and I made your pretty eyes roll into the back of your head."
"...You whined out how much you love me as you rutted against me like a bitch in heat."
"SHUT UP!"

Yes, and I guess Astarion experienced the most shocking and desperate three-seconds of his un-life followed by a numb resignation. DU drow was especial while alive, but I think dead he would have quickly gotten buried in the bespoken pile of corpses that used to be Astarion's conquests. He's had two-hundred years to practice for this moment after all!
As for the drow's thoughts - he doesn't really see the point in contemplating the few minutes he spent in the void other than to reminisce on it with strange fondness. It all ended well, didn't it? And he knew it would, of course. It's not like he made a completely imprudent choice because he forgets about his own mortality.

Questions About Creating Your OCs
‘Cause sometimes the stories of how OCs come to be are just as interesting as the OCs, themselves. Tell me how your virtual kids came into the world.
What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
How did you choose their name?
In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Is there any significance behind their eye color?
Is there any significance behind their height?
What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
Are they based off of you, in some way?
If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?
Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
What is something about your OC can make you laugh?
What is something about your OC can make you cry?
Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
What is your favorite fact about your OC?

Elf Lore in the Forgotten Realms for BG3 Players who are Unfamiliar
I've been seeing some...uninformed takes lately about certain elf characters from BG3, so let me just throw some stuff out there for y'all to consider.
Elves in FR live to be about 750.
They physically mature at roughly the same rate as humans i.e. 18-20.
Culturally, elves don't consider other elves emotionally mature i.e. adults until the age of 100, at which point they may choose an adult name to go by.
What does this mean, logically? Well, consider their very long lifespan. If you are going to live 750 years, your perspective on wisdom is going to be quite different from a human's. While 60 years might be plenty mature for a human, for an elf, that means you still haven't had enough time to watch all of your shorter lived friends pass, which I imagine is something of an emotional milestone for elves.
Halsin is 350. This means he's just hitting middle-age.
Astarion is 239 (Idle Champions claims he's 350, but I call bullshit because his birth and death dates are literally in BG3 and also IC frequently gives the characters bullshit ages, like they say Jaheira is 36, which couldn't have been true even during BG1). He died at 39, which is quite young, but he had the same emotional maturity as a human 39 year old at the time, so he's not Like That because he's undeveloped. He's Like That because he's a snapshot of a privileged young nobleman who then spent 200 years being used and abused by the worst sort of person imaginable. He wasn't a full adult by elven standards, though, and I'm sure there's lots of elven rites of passage he didn't get to experience because he was dead.
BG3 does not mechanically distinguish between sun elves and moon elves and simply puts them all under the high elf umbrella, but they are very much a thing in the lore and have distinct appearances, cultures, and histories.
Moon elves tend to have black, blue, or silver-white hair and have pale skin, sometimes with a bluish hue. Their eyes are usually blue or green, sometimes with gold flecks.
Sun elves tend to have blond, black, or red hair and brown skin tones. Their eyes are usually green, gold, black, copper, silver, or hazel.
Based on his appearance, Astarion is probably a moon elf, and it's likely his original eye colour was either blue or green.
There are many other types of elves than those that are playable in the BG3, such as sea elves, winged elves, star elves, wild elves, and lythari.
It's possible that Shadowheart's father is lythari, because lythari are lycanthropic elves.
