Science Can’t Prove Anything
As I have been continuing my studies in Marine Biology, I was required to take a unit called “What is Science?” At first I thought it would be one of those easy pass units, but it has been one of the most interesting units I have had yet; we have been learning the philosophy of science. One thing that stuck with me is that science technically can’t prove anything. Science is the best explanation we currently have for how things in the natural world work. Hence, nothing is set in stone and theories and findings can change over time as our technology and processes improve. I really think they should teach kids this in school, because so many people have skewed perspectives of what science really is and it leads a lot of people to reject anything “scientific”.

It saddens me that people are always asking “when will the earth become uninhabitable?” and “when will the earth run out of food?” and “when will [insert certain animal] go extinct?”  These shouldn’t be possibilities. The fact that we ask when is proof enough that there is something wrong with how we are treating the earth.
