Old-time Tarot Meanings My Grandma Taught Me
The Star is a bad card.
It says, “No, this is nothing but wishful thinking.” It represents endless hoping, with nothing ever happening.
The Nine of Wands is victory.
This man never grew complacent after his past triumph. Such vigilance will ensure he also wins the next battle.
The Ten of Wands is abundance.
That man is not burdened. He is carrying his harvest home. It is heavy, but he is happy.
The Three of Pentacles is achievement.
A stone mason from a humble background has managed to earn the respect of both Church and State.
The Four of Pentacles is the ideal man.
He treats his other half as his treasure. He is protective of and affectionate towards her.
The Five of Pentacles is true love.
The leper and the beggar are true to their marriage vows: “To have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, till death do us part.”
The Five of Cups predicts death.
When preceded by the Ten of Swords, the Five of Cups means someone dear to the querent will pass away soon.
The Queen of Swords is a spinster.
The other kings and queens are couples. But she is the King of Swords’ older unmarried sister.
The Lovers is sanctioned by the gods.
This person is the partner the heavens created for you. While the Two of Cups is a partner you choose.
The Tower predicts an inheritance.
When preceded or followed by Death, The Tower means someone will die and leave you an inheritance, or another windfall will come that will forever change your life for the better.

As Lunar Children
As children, we are thought to act mostly from our emotional reactions and impulses, which in astrology, is represented by the Moon. Therefore the sign our Moon is in can reveal much about our personality expression as babies and children, up to a more mature age, where then, through growth and experience, our Sun also comes into play, adding a much more layered effect.
A child with their Moon in Aries would be confident and demanding, someone that shows innate leadership skills very early on. They would react to their emotions straight away, whether they are deemed “appropriate” or not, and would also show protective instincts, especially when it comes to smaller or younger children. Would be looked at as a “strong” child, but equally with emotional vulnerability.
A child with their Moon in Taurus would like to stay close to home and people they are familiar with, and may show anxiety or discomfort when forced into new situations. They would likely seem older than their age, described as mature, and would be creative and expressive, though reservedly when around those they do not fully trust. There would be a nurturing instinct in them too, whether to other children, or nature in general.
A child with their Moon in Gemini would be excitable and light spirited, even to the point of becoming easily distractible. They would enjoy mischief and outsmarting those around them, even those of much older age. Words and language likely intrigued them from the start, as well as story telling and theatrics. They might have been easily swept by more consistent or demanding personalities, but always reserved a wit that was unmistakable.
A child with their Moon in Cancer would be very receptive to the environment around them, maybe seeming easily provoked into an emotional response, or quick to pick up on the emotions of others, becoming upset if someone else was. There would be a creativity that came from them early on, the ability to nurture an idea or their imagination. There could be a shyness to them at first, but a surprising amount of will that would soon follow.
A child with their Moon in Leo would be fiery and spirited, someone that flourished when they were the canter of attention and affection, maybe even to the point of being reliant on it and showing off. Even so, there would be an innate sense of right and wrong, of justice and what is fair, even if they don’t always follow this, putting their ego first. Shame would soon follow though, and they would once again return to their internal rules.
A child with their Moon in Virgo could appear fussy and easily disgruntled, someone that notices much of the details of what goes on around them. There would be a matter of fact quality to them, but with an underlying care and helpfulness. They may search for approval from their elders, trying to be high achievers or appear disciplined, without needing assistance. Yet, there would also be a wit and humour too, grounded in its expression.
A child with their Moon in Libra would value friendship, maybe even needing a “best friend” over others at times for their own sense of ease. There would be a natural interest in people, maybe in other children with different backgrounds or experiences to them, and they may find conflict or augments particularly upsetting. They could be attracted to physically pretty things, things that have a certain flair to them.
A child with their Moon in Scorpio may find that they can draw something powerful out in others from an early age, can get a reaction that even they may not understand at their young age, which can make them feel somewhat odd. There would be strong emotions stirring in them, but also this ability to see beauty in the things that others may discard, or the things that haunt others. They would feel the safest with strong attachments.
A child with their Moon in Sagittarius would be the ones to tread dirt into the house, never pay attention to time limits, to speak when they have been told to be quiet, and to answer back should they view something as wrong. They would be the spirits that need an element of freedom, even as children, not prioritising what others tell them they should prioritise. They would enjoy making others laugh too, in getting that reaction.
A child with their Moon in Capricorn would have a sense of what they want for their future, even if this ultimately changed, of looking forward to comparing the now and then and seeing what they have done in that time. There would also be something “old soul” about them, maybe finding enjoyment from tasks that would be considered too old for their age, or boring by their peers. They may also feel patronised by adults in general, in the inference that they would need their help in most things.
A child with their Moon in Aquarius would be someone that asks questions from a young age, someone that finds that they cannot simply follow an instruction just because it was given to them, especially if they feel they have a better grasp on something than even adults do. They may appear odd, but also unfazed by the judgement of other children and adults. There would be a sense of “to each their own” from an early age.
A child with their Moon in Pisces would be someone that both enjoyed the quiet times of imagination and creativity, but also the ability to slot themselves into wherever they were needed, able to morph into the people that surrounded them. They may ask questions of the universe from an early age, and appear to acknowledge that there may be something “more” even in childlike terms. This would be a child where the parents would hopefully see something other worldly and valuable in them.

Tarot 101: Welcome to Tarot
Tumblr media
I get a lot of questions from people about tarot reading methods, card bonding, spreads, and more. So, I decided, why not share what I know about tarot with all of you in a much more detailed, shareable, and easy to reference way?
Welcome to Tarot 101! This series of articles will cover everything from tarot basics to specific uses, spreads, and maybe even deck reviews. But first, let’s talk basics.
What is Tarot?
Tarot is a form of divination, more specifically, a form of cartomancy that uses a tarot deck, a deck of 78 cards featuring 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. These cards are not, as media (like movies and books) might have you believe, a method of “telling the future” (though many psychics do employ them to aid in their work). Instead, tarot cards serve as a guide for where you are and where you are going based on your current path. Nothing is set in stone.
Tarot cards should not be confused with Oracle or Lenormand cards both of which serve different cartomantic functions. Playing cards, though they can function similarly to tarot, also have slight differences in the way they are read.
The Major Arcana
The Major Arcana are the first 22 cards, represented by the numbers 0 through 21, that are typically representative of major themes and broader understandings and perspectives of life events. This group includes some of the most recognized cards, such as Death, The Fool, and The Devil.
Each card in the Major Arcana stands alone in the way that each of the suit cards does. However, lined up in order from The Fool to The World, these cards tell a continuous story about a person, represented in the beginning by The Fool, who goes through and experiences success and setbacks and learns lessons as the story continues.
I will outline the meanings of these cards later in this series, but they are listed in order below.
0 - The Fool
I - The Magician
II - The High Priestess
III - The Empress
IV - The Emperor
V - The Hierophant
VI - The Lovers
VII - The Chariot
VIII - Strength
IX - The Hermit
X - Wheel of Fortune
XI - Justice
XII - The Hanged Man
XIII - Death
XIV - Temperance
XV - The Devil
XVI - The Tower
XVII - The Star
XVIII - The Moon
XIX - The Sun
XX - Judgement
XXI - The World
The Minor Arcana
The Major Arcana make up 22 cards in the deck, but the Minor Arcana are represented by the remaining 56 cards. These cards, divided into four suits, Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles (though in some decks they may be renamed). Each suit contains 14 cards, 10 numbered cards starting with an ace and four court cards, the Page, Knight, Queen, and King. These cards and their meanings are tied more directly to everyday life and do not read as broadly and thematically as the cards in the Major Arcana. This is partly because each suit is connected to a different area of your life, so they are much more focused.
Suit of Cups
The Suit of Cups is connected to emotional aspects and events in your life. These cards guide you in romance and love as well as your own personal emotional connections to the world around you. It is connected to the element Water.
Suit of Swords
The Suit of Swords is connected to challenges like conflict, competition, and even social turmoil. Like an actual sword, they are tools for harnessing and realizing your own strength. It is connected to the element Air.
Suit of Wands
The Suit of Wands is connected to energy and mental initiatives like invention and creativity. These cards are active guides for knowing when to make your best moves and when to wait. It is connected to the element Fire.
Suit of Pentacles
The Suit of Pentacles is connected to work and wealth. These cards reveal things about financial and emotional wealth and can represent goals, money, relationships, and even physical “wealth” (health). It is connected to the element Earth.
Of course, this is all just the beginning. Welcome to Tarot!

Reading up on sea witch spells and seeing people suggest putting offerings in bottles and letting the sea carry then away.
This upsets me.
It’s littering. Please leave your offerings on something that’s not harmful to the environment. A sea shell, rock or even just on the beach. Please don’t use anything that could cause harm to the ocean or its inhabitants. Thank you!

basic ass witch tips 🔮
on some kind of medication, including but not limited to hormonal birth control, heart medication, and anti-depressants? you better double check with your doctor or pharmacist before you drink that new tea you just bought.
always, always, always tell your doctor or check with your pharmacist before trying any kind of herbal supplement, whether it’s something you made yourself or something you bought at the store.
have sensitive skin? dilute your essential oils before putting them anywhere near your skin or in your bathtub.
have a diagnosed medical condition? talk. to. your. doctor. before ingesting anything or putting anything on your body that you aren’t familiar with.
don’t. drink. essential. oils. essential oils are not consumable!!!!!
don’t put citrus oil on your skin and then go out into the sun unless you want a badass chemical burn.
don’t put any kind of damn essential oil on your skin without diluting it with a carrier oil. almond oil? olive oil? coconut oil? i don’t care. dilute your essential oils.
don’t put essential oils on your animals, diluted or not, point blank.
oh, and don’t put fucking crystals in their water bowls to “cleanse their chakras” or whatever the fuck.
speaking? of crystals? don’t put crystals in your bodily orifices. don’t put crystals in your own damn water. just don’t.
thinking about burning some kind of random herb in your house? you better make sure it’s not gonna release noxious fumes and murder your family.
speaking of random herbs - got the urge to forage for some herbs out in the wild? wear. fucking. gloves.
don’t burn incense or herbs around your pets. they have tiny, fragile respiratory systems and are super sensitive to that kinda shit.
gotta burn a candle down completely for a spell? you better not leave that shit unattended unless you want a house fire.
always. practice. fire. safety. that means, don’t go burning shit outside during a burn ban.
gods help me - if you wanna harvest your own blood via finger stick, stay away from dirty safety pins and needles and invest in some lancets.
drinking dirty water from outside can literally give you worms. boil your damn water.
oh yeah. moon water. everyone loves to make moon water. you know what happens when you leave a jar of water at room temperature? it stagnates and grows bacteria. refrigerate that shit.
fresh herbs or other things of that nature left at room temperature can also grow super harmful bacteria, for example, raw garlic submerged in oil at room temperature is a breeding ground for botulism and mold.

What I Thought Being a Witch was Like: Rituals every full moon, mad divination powers and seeing the future, communing with crystals, one with the energy of the universe, brewing potions and making mad magic
What Being a Witch is Actually Like: Drawing sigils to pass tests, asking tarot why I’m anxious and it not telling me, research, random spices on random foods, salt everywhere, stuffing leaves into bottles and hoping it works
