How was I so wrong but so right about Heath Everdeen. But his name, literally, is great. I like Burdock.

U can’t convince me otherwise that katniss’ dad’s name isn’t Heath. Why? It’s an evergreen shrub, founded in the moors n deep into the forest. It’s fitting for the family, since they has very botanical names. It’s also a plant used for medicinal purposes- linked w kidney n heart cleansing/ benefits, something that would links w Mrs Everdeen apothecary career, possibly needing heath (plant) for her healing n Heath (person) because she truely love him so much, she would leave her comfortable world in town.

SMILES

katniss - likely has a crocked smile, that being her usual smile to everyone. Pretty tight lipped. has a slight longer & sharper canines. quiet and a sweet smile. used for family, but can make it really performer like. nevertheless, it’s a youthful smile- reminding you she is a teenager and is shy.

peeta- the nicest gummy smile I imagine. an really happy smile- infectious. the smallest, and a little noticeable, gap between his teeth. he really notices and hates it, but katniss gushes over it. saying it makes his smile really eye-catching. will age w smile line- which is so so beautiful.

gale - a pretty smile. usually it’s sarcastic and more of a smirk- grin. but if a genuine smile, he shows he’s teeth. a good open smile w corner mouth dimples. teeth are really straight and objectively gorgeous

haymitch- a lot of gaps in his teeth, a little crocked. doesn’t rlly smile, more of a ‘smirle’. however, it’s always pitiful n sad. a smile hoping wishful thinking.

effie- surgically perfect. has veneers- though I like to think she has a little lisp in her speech- adding more to her advante-grade image. her natural smile had bunny teeth and a little underbite. but that was surgically enhanced and fixed in the Capitol

prim- has that ‘newborn baby’ smile. a little cutie-patootie smile. big n open n wide. Even closing her eyes a bit with how big it is.

Finnick- the nicest smile out of them all. like a Tom cruise n Julia Roberts smile. Like it swoons you- life you look and BANG you’re in love. naturally, it’s really cheeky and flirty/playful.

annie- downwards smile. possibly the sweetest of them all. literally so pretty- w finn always laughing and saying “show me your teeth when you smile!” for her to open smile like emma watson. makes her cheekbones really bop! has one dimple on her left side n

Johanna - an exaggerated wide smile. Holds an anger to it, even if it really happy. “Smile properly Jo! aren’t you happy?” “I am Anne! I’m trying hard, I just look like a maniac”

beetee- it’s a flat line. But it’s endearing. it’s a cute-awkward smile. mainly straight, w the tips curving up. the cheek puff up. Like a bby chipmunk

Hunger Games headcanons:

VOICES-

Katniss = I think she has a very feminine voice, but, it’s quiet and very low. Like she is always speaking with a sort of flu. I would imagine it like a decent sounding voice- sounding very caring. She stresses certain words and certain letter ( like the A in Peeta or the R n M in Prim). An early Rory Gilmore maybe???

Peeta = a worldly accepted nice voice. I like to think he had a bit of a speech- impediment as a little kid or toddler, and his mum mad him read-out-aloud to be both a confidence speaker and has proper articulation. Very charming voice, like he can be real persuasive. All words are pronounced perfectly and nice. Like an audiobook reader.

Gale = I think his would sound so similar to Kevin Eleven. I can’t explain it. Like it’s moderately low, but it’s youthful enough to remind you he is still a teenager. It might even sound like his nose is a bit blocked? Idk. I think he also sounds like he is always sarcastic, but kids really grasp onto him, thinking he ‘sounds cool’

Annie = she sounds like Cher from clueless. Like so so nice and sweet. A loveable Valley girl

Effie = exactly like Elizabeth Banks. Maybe more of a transatlantic accent- with a bit more British flair!!

Haymitch = a very distinctive mix b/ween Woody and current Billy Ray Cyrus. Has a smokers laugh. Voice carries a lot of weight and somber. A voice that can put you into a good nights sleep

Finnick = surfer. Malibu. A Cali guy accent that idk of. I’m imagining a younger, more calmer version of that Turtle from Finding Nemo. Idk. Idk how. But that’s Finnick.

Johanna- a mix of an American- Canadian accent. She sound like she’s from Washington/Oregan (canon in d7 location)

Madge= a very pretty voice. Similar to peeta, I think she had lots of public speaking practices, due to being the daughter of the mayor. However, she is really quite so no one hears her talking too much h. But everyone stops and listens to what she says- a real leader type of voice. Like everyone can hear it perfect, it’s right everything. A fairing charm and attractiveness I think. I also think she is really good at mimicking accent. Has a bit of a habit calling ppl w nicknames, like sweetie or darling or smth. Some sarcastic and others to be nice.

Prim = it’s a real gentle voice. Like all her words are whispers and really soft. Like a perpetually lullaby or speaking to a young child voice. But it always carry’s a sombering sadness that can’t be masked, even if she isn’t sad.

Beetee = exactly in the movie. I wouldn’t change a thing. A piece of perfection!! Maybe w a British- erudite ness to his voice. Otherwise, nothing

Snow = transatlantic. Exactly like an old Hollywood movie. He doesn’t sound like anyone around him- talks like he is from another world. But I think he makes himself seem different; he will make a trend to be English-sounding and once all Capitol citizens mimic him, he swaps and then comes American. He does this all the time

(Trigger warning for phobia, trauma and psychological mentionings)

the Hawthornes have a family song/lullaby: the “I love you song” ( Frankie Valley LOVE song). It all started out with mr h and hazelle having a dance to the song, and then gales dad just starts sing to hazelle and his kids to ‘brighten up their lives’. Gale n hazelle continues on the song to sing the kids to sleep, cuz it is a sweet thing that makes them think of the good times before the chaos.

katniss uses unscented shampoo and conditioners. she hates the reminder of it’s artificial, unrealistic, inauthenticity— like the Capitol. By being unscented and not having any connection to the Capitol, katniss allows herself to be free and unbranded. peeta always uses fresh or sweeter scents: maybe like mint and chamomile. But he ends up smelling like backed good at the end of the day

haymitch is Madge’s godfather like figure. he is close to her mother, due to being connected to mayslee. cuz of this, the undersees trust him a lot and have so much faith with him. he even cares a lot for Madge too, wanting what’s good for her.

Johanna, from the hjacking, developed a phobia of any form of water. cuz of that, she couldn’t take a proper shower or bath for a good couple of years, and won’t visit district 4 (also the pain of losing a close friend). she would clean herself with watered rags and wipe her body clean. she also cuts her hair short, never too short, but short and asks Annie to wash her hair for her— which she always does and hold her hands telling her she’s okay.

To add on, I think Katniss develops on onset phobia of needles. After all the trauma and abuse she got from the capital and the revolution, she hates the idea of needles, cus it just trigger her fight-or-flight reaction to protecting herself. Especially all the episodes of being unconscious, drugged up or injuries beyond repair.

Annie, I think, would want to become a psychologist, or something incredibly similar in the future. She learns to become better and helps other with similar situations to improve themselves to become more at ease. She specifies in trauma/addiction and childhood psychotherapy.

The mellarks adopt another cat and name it dandelion. Similar to the flower/plant motive of the Everdeens name, but also cause it reminds katniss of peeta. Dandelion, the cat, would be blonde with white in it. And it would be always there at the corner of katniss’ eye

Finnick has a massive book collection and poetry collection at his place. Him, Mags and Annie all have a ‘Book Club’ group and talk to each other

Finnick can’t sing anything other than sea-ship songs. Like those old-times pirate/ sea songs. He also sways a little when he stands too still for too long— an old habit that died hard from his youth his his dad owning a boat. Annie smtimes joins him w his singing, and mags too

version one katniss: his a ruthless killer. a mad genius, serial machine that is out here to termaniate and destory me at my smallest ounce is vulnerability. I must be on high alert, ready to attack him for my survival. 😤

version two katniss: why didn’t he kiss me goodnight even if he lives 3 houses down from me? And why is he so stunning and sweet, and so humble. especially his eyelashes, and how they catch the sun. I love his kisses and his big hands. I must remember that he loves his tea with no sugar- oh, and sleeping with him is so so calming, so so warm. He paints and bakes, and draws all these amazing things. His hair is so lovely, I love it , but hate how it covers his eyelashes. his pretty eyelashes. too bad I already decided I don’t want kids, cuz I would so have his rlly 😔🤧. katniss loves peppermint and chocolate together. I’m getting this by her always snaking on peppermint leaves when she is at the woods and her living hot chocolate. therefore, the combination of mint and chocolate would seem very in her favourite

Gales family is all freakishly tall. Hazelle is likely to be average height for a women, but his father is the cause of all their heights, where I image he is like 6’5. Rory would be smth like 6’0, Vick would be the tallest at 6’4 (cuz he is the most like Gale) n posy would be a very comfortable being 5’8ish (cuz she is a lot like her mummy). I also think Gale looks a lot like Hazelle, but has strong features like his father. He was a mommas boy when a little kid. But rlly deeply loved his father, especially as he allowed Gale to free and express himself

Finnick has high-functioning anxiety and Annie has complexPTSD. finnick, when alone, can almost be unfuntional and fearful of himself. Concerned for other ppls safety and the effects of president snow. Annie has certain triggers from the hunger games. She is mostly functional and stable for the greater parts, however, involvement in and surrounding the games is painful for her. She desperate avoids the reapings and similar events. However, she will try is she can. Like using psychotherapy to calm equally anxious tributes n alleviate themselves (like she would w finnick).

Johanna is a raging bisexual- w a preference for girls. She initially became friends first w Annie, cuz she is a lot like her little brother. And then came close w Finnick too. Them two form the �� the protect Annalise (Annie) Cresta club’ and all hang out together when they would.

I have 2 theories about finnicks upbringing:

1. Finnick has a single father n was an only child too. Seeing from his victory of the games, it comes across less as a career act more as a a child who works w spear fishing. His father must of been a spear fisherman and/or catcher. This also was how he died too. Finnicks father would have disappeared/ died at the sea from a fishing accident n Snow saying it was circumstantial but all know it wasn’t.

2. Finnick was an orphan. He lost his family (parents and older sister) in a fishing accident young, like 9 and ended up in the orphanage. He learn to become charismatic to increase his chances of adoption, I think. I think this is also how he became close w Mags. She didn’t have any children, but would often visit orphanage n would treat them like her own children. Finnick caught her eye n they began to get increasingly closer. This family relationship only deepened when she ‘adopted’ his after his victory, calling him her ‘beautiful boy’ and ‘darling child’. My reason? They said in cf (don’t quote me though) that finnicks only ‘family is mags n Annie’

Peeta loves French toast. Cuz his family would have to eat stale bread, French toast would be a ✨ fancier way ✨ of reviving/ prolonging older breads loaves. He wouldn’t have this often to eat I imagine, but he would get if it was a bday treat n/or special treat for smth (like not being reaped or that). As an adult, he has it more often n katniss makes it for him every saturday to give him a little happiness

i always think about how physically gentle peeta is with katniss and how heartbreaking it must be that katniss thought he was gonna receive her with the same gentleness when he was rescued and that was not the case. she came to associate his arms with peace and lovingly gentleness and comfort and the shock that those same arms she associated with peace came to harm her is so heartbreaking.

gale is afraid of thunderstorms: it started as a child when he had a bad night as a child. he may hate storms, but enjoys the rain. cuz he thinks the rain cleans the world, removing all the coal n smoke from his home district.

katniss has pretty handwriting. i thought about after her n peeta were adding to her family’s old book: he drew and she wrote. this is in contrast to peeta’s handwriting. his is blocky and all capitalised. it’s okay, but can get very messy very quickly

peeta is really good at braiding and doing ppls hair. he braids katniss’ hair and styles his daughters hair for school

madge’s paternal grandma was from the seam- or at least mostly. her dad is described as having dark hair- something no-native towns people have. (this might be a slight stretch if things!)

gales best friend is thom. they were childhood best friends and very very close. they are the most loyal of friends and try incredibly hard to protect/care for the other. gale may be katniss’ closes friend, but he never does call her HIS best friend (more like hunting partners). and i always thought he called his family and thom is his best friends

peeta is a lot like his mum. he has her mannerism and particular actions, but looks quite close to his father. his favourite person is his eldest brother, who always tried to sneak him some nicer bread when their mum went out of the house.

katniss is skilled with the violin/fiddle. she took it up after the war, since it has a bow and all that. she also hangs out with johanna and tried to learn how to do wood crafting and that. especially making bow and bird houses, just like her dad.

gale is a very skilled dancer. like he would often go to parties and do their traditional seam/town/d12 dances. he does it with his mum Hazelle to bring her some joy since he can’t buy her anything nice.

madge is also a very good dancer. But it’s more that she had to learn to, due to having all the Capitol citizens and having to attend banquets. i also think that she gets many gifts from them: dresses, ribbons and jewellery from her guest as a small gift. that’s why she had many things, not cuz her father can afford it but more so as a gift from the Capitol citizens

since all victors need a talent, I always imagine finnicks was poetry and johanna’s is wood carving. Finnick writes sonnets about annie to be incognito about his devotion. johanna makes carvings of her family and loved one. even fallen tributes too. annie’s would be something artistic too, possibly like jewellery making or crocheting since it requires tying lots of knots.

annie’s dad was a pearl farmer/merchant. she also had the a slightest valley girl accent: not annoying but it’s more endearing and sweet. like a Cher from clueless

johanna’s favourite holiday is/was Xmas. n since she lost her family, she doesn’t celebrate it as much. but she smtimes does make a yule log and sprinkles around pine cones after they went. though now after, she makes it more celebratory and does it with annie and mini-Finn. she gives him the most present, even when annie protest and tell her not to spoil him

Has anyone ever notice the similarities bween young Tigris n katniss? Both young, traumatised girl who try everything within their fibre to keep alive n float in a traumatic world for their younger kin. Katniss w her hunting n devotion to raising prim, whereas Tigris gives in sacrifices and ‘sells’ herself to give coriolananus security in food, but also the grandeur n glory that she believes he deserves via insomniac rests to make him beautiful clothing (cuz she loves him like a brother n wants him to have lovely thing).

To ultimately have their sacrifices be futile, to have prim die, ‘she’s gone’ (mj) after katniss has done everything to protect her in/out of the games. n Coriolanus to destroy and become consumed by a greater evil/savagery that hurts tigiris n disgusted her, ‘you look just like your father Coriolanus’ (tbosas), especially knowing much powerless n vulnerable she felt doing out of necessity for survival. Knowing all the ‘work/acts’ she had to do as a teenager to give him food: only to enforce a punishment n exploitation of savage-Capitol-consumerism on traumatised, defenceless, young, victors (teenagers!!) to maintain power and control. Using her up n exploiting her work ‘all until she wasn’t useful/beautiful anymore’ (mj) for him.

As the eldest sister, this hurts me cuz I try everything to make my siblings happy. And after all my protection n sacrifices for their happiness become worthless: I feel like I failed my sister-duties 😭🫠

Katniss Everdeen is not the ambitious girl boss and fierce leader the movies and some audiences are trying to make her look like.

She was forced into that role because of who she is and the circumstances. She never wanted to become a leader or anything like that. She just wants a peaceful life for herself and the people she loves.

I don't know how to put it, but people who try to push her as the ultimate girl boss always give me the impression that they only watched the movies.

It especially rubs me the wrong way when they're like, Katniss is such a girl boss she doesn't have time for romantic love! She doesn't love boys like that!

Excuse me, she's canonically a teenage girl who actively daydreams while staring at Peeta's eyelashes, blushing when she's caught; she whines about not getting his affection when he doesn't hug or kiss her; she calls him when he just left her house to go back to his, which is only 3 houses away.

It's like, tell me you didn't read the books without telling me you didn't read the books.

okay but in the book it’s hugely significant that Katniss and Peeta stand facing away from each other to take the berries!!! do you know how easy it would be to fake taking the berries when the other person can’t see you???? in the movie, face to face, they’re tacitly holding each other to the pact, but in the book, holding hands, back to back (they literally have each other’s back), the TRUST!!!! is implicit … and perhaps the choice, to play the Game the way you’re supposed to, to go home the sole survivor … which underscores the SELFLESSNESS in the fact that they both bring the berries to their mouths (IN their mouths) and are prepared to die together … neither Katniss nor Peeta needs the other for any pragmatic reason in that moment: the whole thing is a display of desperate, defiant love
