If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend the animated movie Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs. There’s a short bondage scene in the climax involving tree branches!)
Already done! Here
It is a truly great scene.

Hiya!
I read the book Thief Liar Lady by D. L. Soria and there was a scene relatively early where the narrator and two princes are kidnapped. The narrator comments how dumb it is that their captors bound one of the prince’s hands in front of him, and I thought of you 😄 [the prince gets free and the captors rebind him correctly.]
There’s also a fun scene during the climax where the same prince is bound and gagged, hands behind him, and is pulled on a lead behind a horse.
I need to read this book immediately.
Thank you so much!

Waaaaaaait.
Did the Disney Snow White live action remake incorporate the old idea to make the prince a prisoner of the Evil Queen?

Hey dude it’s so cool to see your deep dive into comics as an origin for the bondage kink/special interest lol. It was actually super validating to read bc that’s exactly how it happened for me and I grew up feeling like the biggest freak until I found community online.
Did you ever get into the Adventures of Tintin comics by Hergè? That was always my go to. I have to say, even as a child it was strange to see the writer having these really racist Eurocentric opinions and depictions of some of the cultures that Tintin visits, and it feels wrong to talk about the series without bringing that up. But there’s also some really interesting kidnapping/bondage scene. My favorite of which takes place on a ROCKET in OUTER SPACE which was so brilliantly unexpected.
Idk there’s some cool stuff there, it might be worth checking out if you haven’t :)
Aw man that's really nice to hear! I'm glad it was validating for you. I know the exact feeling, of thinking I'm a freak until I found other people like me.
I did! I have an entry for the series: https://www.tumblr.com/guys-in-distress-database/613765231589605376/entry-10-tintin-comics-media-comic-book
It's a touch outdated since it was only entry #10, but still covers most of them. For bondage, Temple of the Sun has always been my favourite.
The story of Tintin and Herge is really interesting and I recommend you read about it if you're curious. For example, did you know that he initially worked at a right-wing nationalist Belgian propaganda newspaper and that's why the first few issues were so racist? Once he broke off on his own, the tone distinctly shifted. The Blue Lotus was a major turning point, as he was one of the first European writers to portray the Chinese in a positive, non-caricatured light (in response to the Japanese invasion of Manchuria). I find it really fascinating.

It's all good. Thanks for being so considerate. Happy to explain.
The GID Awards: Comic Book
Our next category is a certifiable classic and the origin of many a bondage kink, I imagine: the comic book.
I know a LOT of people in the community who developed bondage kinks because they grew up reading golden and silver age comics. For most people, it was American superhero comics, namely Batman, Captain Marvel and, for DID fans, Wonder Woman.
Not me though...
I grew up reading Franco-Belgian comics and they probably hold about 75% of the blame for me developing a bondage kink. I don't know (and would be really curious to learn) why predominantly children's media between roughly 1920-1980 was SO bondage-heavy. Like, were men with bondage kinks running the media industry or was there some sort of bizarre romanticization of kidnapping (that got upended by the public revelation of the domination of serial killers and kidnappers during the 60s and 70s) or was this all a wacky coincidence?
Aaaaaaaaanyways...
This one was hard to get personal bias out of the picture simply because I just don't read American comics that don't have anything to do with Star Wars. That being said, I did end up choosing one just because, how could I not?! My choice is:
Shazam/Captain Marvel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I'm cheating a bit with this one because I've never done an entry on it, though I can justify that as comics being difficult to make entries for owed to how many of them there are and just how confusing they are to categorize. And how can I not choose this one with the impact it's had on GID?
Any character who activates their superpowers through speaking is just asking to get gagged over and over and over. And that's exactly what happened to Billy Batson. While they've definitely toned it down over time (likely due to changing attitudes around having underage characters in distress like this), back in the early days, the guy couldn't go a few issues without getting bound and gagged.
Every source of conflict in his early days seemed to be him getting captured and then finding some clever way to get his gag off. Hilt of a sword, flaming piece of wood, hook in the wall, you name it.
Although there's definitely been a reduction of scenes overtime, you do still see the modern Shazam suffering similar fates, especially in the Injustice comic and the Friends Like These comic, so it's nice to see his legacy being upheld.
So for its contributions to GID, I have chosen Captain Marvel as the winner for best GID comic!
Honourable Mentions
Some other comics I considered, but ultimately did not choose for this award:
Suske en Wiske (for directly influencing my bondage kink and sheer volume of scenes)
Attack on Titan Manga (for having a great scene that didn't make it into the anime)

Grew up reading them when I was a kid. They're probably one of the main reasons I have a bondage kink now. Children's adventure stories from the 20th century often had their main characters tied up as a plot device. You can see that especially in old Hardy Boys books and comic books.
A lot of kinks are developed via media consumed as a child. For example, a lot of furries grew up on Disney films with anthropomorphic characters. Or people with vore or hypnosis kinks grew up on The Jungle Book, which featured a snake with hypnotising powers who tried to eat Mowgli.
There's no one, explainable answer for why some people develop kinks from things like this and others don't. As a child, you might characterise it as an "interest" until you become aware that it's something more than that.
TL:DR kinks are usually more complicated and deep-rooted than people realise. Yes, some people only develop kinks as adults through sexual activity, but almost every person I've met in the bondage community developed it as a kid as a result of the media they were consuming.

Just wanted to say I also read the scene in 'prince of thorns and nightmares' and by golly that was soooooo disappointing. It was painfully YA but it felt more like it was meant for elementary school readers with the writing style. A wattpad fanfic would've been 10x better 🥲
Right???
I was so disappointed. The writing was just so amateurish that the scene didn't do anything for me. It was too distracting.

I just had a sudden memory of a GID scene from an animated movie I watched as a kid. It’s called Amazon Jack and it’s about some weird koala creature on the run from an evil scientist. I remember during the third act he ends up captured by the scientist. He’s strapped to a table and his mouth is taped shut (onscreen). Jack ends up escaping in the middle of the villain’s musical number. I don’t feel like watching it again to figure out when it is, but if you’re looking for more GID scenes, then there’s that.
I'll definitely look into it. Thanks!

Update
Hi everybody! I'm not dead!
I know I haven't been active for the last little while. I've been very busy. I had a lot of dramatic life changes and I simply have not had the time or mental capacity to tend to the blog.
I wanted to extend a warm thank you to bringing the blog back up to 1000 followers so quickly after the purge. That's honestly great to see and happy to have all the new people here (even though I haven't been delivering new content oops).
I don't know how much I'll continue to update things tbh. I just have not had the motivation. It doesn't mean I'm ending things with the blog, but it's going to be a lot quieter from here-on-out.
Thanks for sticking with me. It means a lot <3

Update: I finally read the scene in Prince of Thorns and Nightmares.
I’m ngl; the writing wasn’t good enough to make the scene for me. It was very YA: stilted and self-serious without justifying itself. I did like that he was ungagged and regagged multiple times, but that was about it.
I dunno. You can’t really top the original for me.

Hi miss gid! Have you updated squid game for season 2? Episode 1 features a long gid scene towards the end; two men are tied to a chair & gagged.
Episode 4, like tug of war from S1, has each team's ankles chained to one another.
The guards physically subdue someone in the season finale.
Netflix's season 3 promo shows a man handcuffed to a bedpost, they really know their audience. Looking forward to it!
Yes, I watched the season. It was on my radar. I've just been very busy and haven't had time to tend to the blog.
I would only make an entry for episode 1 though. The others don't count for me.
