There may be instances when there is more benefit to obtaining physical therapy service at home than in a hospital or clinic setting. The most important of these factors is when it is difficult or risky to ask the patient to travel to receive treatment. Being able to receive treatment without unnecessary movement or travel greatly increases rehabilitation success. You may also want to receive physical therapy in your home, even if you are not at risk for certain health conditions. The accessibility and added comfort of obtaining physical therapy within your own home make this type of physical therapy a popular choice. As with all treatment settings, some risks come with receiving treatment outside of a hospital or clinic. It is always best to consult with a healthcare specialist to find out if in-home physical therapy can work for your needs. Looking for a specialist or need a consultation? Send us a message now.

In the Philippines, a physical therapist is licensed professional who develops, maintains, and restores a person’s movement and function in order to help them regain overall health. They carry out their services towards the “promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation, and rehabilitation”, with the understanding that these areas are part and parcel of a patient’s physical, psychological, and social wellbeing.

If you have been feeling pain or need some sort of physical rehabilitation but don’t know how to reach a physical therapist, it’s time to read on. Here are the steps you can take to gaining access to the right physical therapy for you: For Out Patients: 1. See a physician. Any chronic pain must be looked at by a physician prior to any sort of pain management or rehabilitation. 2. Get a prescription to see a physical therapist. A physical therapist will look at your condition upon the referral of of a medical professional. You will not be able to see a PT without a referral, so be sure to get one first.
For In Patients: 1. Get referred to the Rehab Department. Following your in-patient procedure, you will be referred to the rehab department of your hospital. 2. See a physiatrist. A physiatrist will evaluate your condition and provide your rehab prescription. As with an out-patient procedure, you will need the physiatrist’s referral to see a physical therapist.
A private clinic run by physical therapists may also send a PT to visit you in your home without the need for a prescription. While direct access to a physical therapist is not permitted in the Philippines, a private clinic may send a physical therapist to your home as the first contact for your situation.
Halcyon Healthcare is a private clinic that can provide you with the physical therapy you need. Send us a message now.

In what ways does a sports therapist differ from a physical therapist?
Physical therapists cater to a broad spectrum of clients to help them restore or increase their mobility and to reduce any pain or discomfort, be it for physical rehabilitation or after an injury.
A sports therapist, on the other hand, works mainly with athletes, and plans workout routines to prevent sports-related injuries. They also work to help rehabilitate and restore maximum function post-injury depending on an athlete’s sports-specific condition.
If you want to find out whether you need a general physical therapist or a more specialized sports therapist, get in touch with our experts and send us a message.

The Difference

While both physical therapy and occupational therapy are centered on providing rehabilitative services, they each have particular ways of providing this care. Physical Therapy, which is founded on physical rehabilitation, is focused on improving body movements. Occupational therapy not only deals with physical rehabilitation but also mental health, and is focused on improving a person’s ability to perform activities for day-to-day living. An occupational therapist seeks to adapt, modify, or change a person’s required daily activities by altering one or more of these areas: the person’s activity, their environment, or their skills. A physical therapist, on the other hand, aims to restore a person’s physical movement while reducing pain, improve gross motor skills, and prevent physical disability.
