When Héloïse’s mother says “you think I don’t know her anger? I know it well” when she talks about her daughter not wanting to be married, and when Marianne replies “yes, I know it too”, I just realized that they weren’t talking about Héloïse’s anger but about their own anger from their own past experiences.
We know the mother also had to marry a man she didn’t know and was painted for the same reason Héloïse is. And by that comment, we understand that she didn’t want to be married and was also angry about it, just like her daughter. She knows it’s not fair to her daughter, but she doesn’t really have a choice, and she tries to find the best man and the best place she can for her daughter so she can live the best life possible.
But what about Marianne’s anger ? Did she also have to marry a man against her will (but eventually managed to run away) ? Or was it a more general anger about her condition as a woman who’s pressured to marry a man ? Has it something to do with her abortion ?
I want to know so much more about Marianne….

“One of the risks of being quiet is that the other people can fill your silence with their own interpretation: You’re bored. You’re depressed. You’re shy. You’re stuck up. You’re judgemental. When others can’t read us, they write their own story—not always one we choose or that’s true to who we are.” - Sophia Dembling’s The Introvert’s Way

So I was casually fangirling over this precious angel (as you do),

and I think I just unintentionally outed myself??? To my step-dad??? The same person who was calling a gay couple on TV f***ots like a week ago...
He heard me squeal (I mean you can't really blame me bc have you seen her? anyway) and asked me what's up and since I didn't respond he took my phone and saw these pics, so ummm... What a way to start the decade lmao
He asked me if I'm a lesbian and I said no, which isn't a lie 🤷♀️
Quite frankly I don't give a shit what he thinks bc I know I was born this way and his opinion is not gonna change that, but I know my mom is happy with him and I don't wanna jeopardize their relationship, so there's that. Also, despite him being homophobic, he's been more of a dad to me than my biological father ever will be and I've grown attached to him in past couple of years.
I could just come up with some bs excuse, but what's the point? I've been lying about this part of myself for long enough and it's time he accepts that not everyone is straight and conventionally "normal" - and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Any tips on how to help a homophobic parent understand your sexuality?
I'm desperate lmao
