It was with your touch and your words

That night in a moment

All of the emptiest parts of myself

Flooded with blooming gardens

All of the places the light couldn’t reach

Became so lush and bright

Became so whole

Love was never offered to me on a silver platter

So I have licked it off the edges of the sharpened rubble surrounding my life

Forgive if my mind runs a little rampant

Forgive when I can’t react as others do

Forgive my sensitivities

Forgive my apprehension and fears

I have always been happy

Always able to generate some semblance of joy on my own

From the good or the bad from nothing or something

But when I met you, when our lips locked and our bodies embraced

That happiness became so saturated in color

I’ve never seen such brilliant sunrises or sunsets

Never truly seen a more emerald green forest

Never seen so much color in the butterflies that pass by

You have shown me a new type of happiness

A new beauty in joy

Love starts as a feeling

Yet every year after is is a choice to continue on

I can see myself choosing that love with you

For the remainder of my years

For you have shown me kindness

You have shown me safety

You have made me whole

It used to scare me when my head ran silent

Never knew where I was at, somewhere between hurting and violent

But now with a brush of your hand against mine

The silence in my head seems to pause the time

Silence is not always a bad thing

Nor is it a means to an end

But it shows my level of comfort

With the love in the touch of your hands

The invisible webs kept us apart

Until we understood love needed in our hearts

Every time we could have touched

The universe said we’re not mended enough

But the time has come where the strings grew tighter

We met one another and both feel brighter

It is with love in my heart that I do say

I know beyond those baby blues is an ocean of tears

A heart full of fear

Yet I stand towels in hand

To dry each and every one

To heal the pain together

To forge new memories to forget that stormy weather

Learning to feel safe in my own skin

Two souls in the moment

Healing hearts neither of us broke

New memories to be made

To work past the pain of earlier days

It is in her voice, her touch, her eyes and arms

My head falls silent

No matter the day

No matter the thoughts keeping happiness at bay

My peace in times of conflict

My retreat, my one

What a beautiful sight

Starry eyed and wrapped in blankets

I could lay for an eternity in this moment

Content with the silence

Solitary in my own confinement

A warming surprise to my heart

To find such a bond

After so many times torn apart

My chest once a mine field of torn barbed wire and thorn

Now softens and glows with such radiant warmth

It is nearly impossible to explain

My head and heart could never fathom a feeling this way

To put it into measure

I’ve never experienced this joy or pleasure

The safety found within your eyes and touch are unmatched, never too much

The calmness I feel when our lips embrace

The shudder I get when our eyes keep pace

The nature of your soul is like a sweet wine to mine

A heart warming story growing with time

I’ve spent days with the sun

I’ve spent years in the forests where animals run

I have felt joy

I have felt pain

I have felt crazy

I have felt sane

Yet none of this

Could ever prepare
