Streaming på bedre vis
Tumblr media
Ulemper?

COMING SOON:
MFG-036 // Milton Marsh  ‘Monism’ LP/CD
In 1975, Milton Marsh released his first album Monism for the Strata-East label. Marsh, a composer, arranger, saxophonist and flautist, recorded the album in New York City from 1973-1974. The musicians on Monism represent some of the finest living in NYC at the time: pianist Cedric Lawson, bassist Don Pate, along with two rising stars at the time, David Ware on saxophone and Greg Bandy on percussion. Ironically, all of these artists would go on to record several volumes of music in their careers except for Marsh, who recorded only one additional album, 1985’s Continuum, after a decade long absence.

Marsh composed and arranged all of the album’s six compositions, each of which featured between nine and 17 players. This sizable headcount explains the album’s ability to soar from quiet, minimal moments to robust, dissonant explosions, depending upon the track.
“Vonda’s Tune”, the album’s opener, begins with a brief solitary and somber horn solo, which later opens up to the more “avant” sounds of “Community Music”. The title track is where Marsh’s compositions reach their most unpredictable and exciting moments, however. “Monism” closes out the A side with a free jazz jamboree, complete with a spoken word delivery of a Sufi poem from Marsh himself. The album’s B side is relegated to more traditional structures, and features some of the most driving piano, drum and saxophone playing fans of the genre could hope to hear; at once loose and decidedly collaborative in its delivery.
Tumblr media
Perhaps prompted by Marsh’s ten-year disappearance from the recording world, this long out of print recording has become a collector’s edition for those familiar with it. Original copies have been known to sell for more than $100 among collectors. Manufactured Recordings is proud to present this reissued volume again on vinyl for the first time in 40 years, and on CD for the first time ever. Pre-order information will be posted soon.

Richard D. James may be far from his days as electronic music's enfant terrible, but he's still on a quest to reconfigure our brains—one alien frequency at a time.

Camera duel
I was a bit curious about the picture quality from my new camera, Panasonic Lumix GX7 with Lumix G VARIO 14-42 mm F3.5-5.6 II. Was this small mirrorless camera capable to compete with my Canon EOS 550D aka Rebel T2i? On the Canon I use a clunky lens about the size of the GX7. A Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM. I also have a prime lens I used to like, the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8
I have serious plans about getting a Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH for the GX7, but for now the kit lens is all I have.
So, I set up the tripod and made a camera shootout on my porch. Canon vs. Panasonic. DSLR vs. Micro Four Thirds. Old vs. new. Both cameras in manual mode, manual WB, ISO 400, standard photo style, similar metering– and focus mode. To my knowledge, they should be competing on the same terms.
I shot one RAW-photo on each lens at f/7.1 – 1/60mm. Converted to JPEG in Aperture 3.5.1. No adjustments.
Bottom line: the kit lens on the GX7 is pretty good. Very good color balance and pretty detailed. The Sigma 17-70 may have better detailing, at least in the center, but have trouble with the color balance and blown out whites. I was most disappointed with the Canon prime lens, which is a well regarded lens. I have no idea about the washed out colors.

iPhone camera shootout
I got my new iPhone 5C today, and decided to perform a shootout against my old, but reliable iPhone 4. How big was the difference? Well, it was actually bigger than I had expected. Photo on Flickr–> HERE
The photos are captured at the same distance and in the same lighting conditions. No crop, no filters, no adjustments.

The Real Monsters are reborn!
Upon getting so much attention for my previous designs, I wanted to redesign the monsters and develop the concept a little more. You’ll notice most of the monsters have subtle alterations and the descriptions have been changed to better reflect my original concepts.
Over the coming weeks I will release more (never seen before) monsters and will also release concept sketches and developmental work for each monster shown here- So stay tuned! (They may also be little animations…)
Disclaimer: The artwork is not at all intended to make light of these conditions but instead is intended to give these intangible mental illnesses some substance and make them appear more beatable as physical entities.

Steve Ballmer, 2007:
Right now we’re selling millions and millions and millions of phones a year. Apple is selling zero phones a year.
Steve Ballmer, a few months later:
It’s sort of a funny question. Would I trade 96% of the market for 4% of the market? (Laughter.) I want to have...
