ㅤㅤ  “  it…  could  have  been  worse,  i  guess?  i  don’t  know.  i  didn’t  get  much  of  a  response.  ”     that  she  hadn’t  clearly  bothered  her.  rightfully.  anyone  in  her  shoes  would  be  bothered,  right?  she  put  herself  out  there  ⁠— ⁠—  and  she  wasn’t  shot  down  but  it  was  like  she  and  her  feelings  were  brushed  off.      “  it’s  whatever  though.  other  fish  in  the  sea,  right?  ”

“Yeah, sure, not a total disaster.” Steph agreed, unable to help teasing Chloe just a little further. But she was sympathetic, in her own way - rejection sucked, even more so when it didn’t feel truly final. Like shooting you down had been nothing more than an afterthought. “Exactly!” She bumped Chloe’s arm lightly with her fist. “You’re hot, Price - just ‘cause this one chick didn’t see it doesn’t mean the next one won’t.”

Steph set out a steadying hand to whoever had bumped into her, carefully cradling her cup to avoid splashing it over them. “Robin!” She greeted when she realised who it was, decidedly less pissed knowing the other girl wasn’t the type to purposefully shove her way through a crowd. “You’re not drunk already, are you?” She teased at her clumsiness.

robin couldn’t believe she was at this party, but somehow steve had encouraged her and ultimately convinced her it would be a good idea. at least other people from band were around so she wasn’t completely alone. however, as she rounded a corner she bumped into someone. “oh, uh, hey steph,” she greeted as she stopped herself from rambling.

Everyone else he met since his move to Arcadia Bay couldn’t even compare to Steph. They had their riches, well most of them anyway, but they didn’t have the attitude you wanted to be around. Not that he was a saint himself. He could be a total asshole when he wanted to be, especially towards his little brother. The only difference was he had a heart most of the time. His father raised him right, at least he believed so. Which couldn’t have been easy since he ended up being a single parent. But that only made him appreciate his dad more. “I don’t think my heart is gold enough to help you hold down the fort.” She was doing a pretty great job on her own anyway. “You know what you could do.” His brows raised at the thought that came to mind, and he couldn’t not share. “You could start your own Vortex Club, only instead of being filled with the rich assholes at this school, it’ll be filled with the rare kind hearted like yourself.”

Steph quirked an eyebrow as she awaited his suggestion, stifling a laugh initially at the thought. Her own Vortex Club? “Victoria would probably try to murder me.” She noted. Even if she was unlikely to want any part of it, Victoria Chase and her lackeys didn’t like anyone having something exclusive that they weren’t involved in. “But it might be worth the risk - would be kind of funny to see her get all twisted up over it.” She chuckled, nodding to herself as if it was decided. “And we’ll play real music - not the synthesised crap they blast at their little pool parties.”

“Oh, absolutely.” Steph grins, all too pleased as she peers around the Bingham residence, dodging out of the way of one of Eden’s screaming siblings as she does so. The kids are hectic but the house itself is perfect, cookie-cutter middle America - prim and proper with a couple shiny crosses thrown on top for good measure. A far cry from the image Eden seems to project. “Were you a choir girl? I bet you were a choir girl.”

“I don’t- I don’t know.” Steph can’t quite make sense of what she’s seeing. The halls of Hawkins are familiar, but she knows it’s not right - the strange corruption crawling across the walls, the cloying dust that seems to permeate the air, coat her throat uncomfortably. It’s like something out of one of her D&D sourcebooks, or a B-movie horror flick. “What happened before we got here? Are you okay?”
