Today marks the launch of the crowdfunding campaign for In Every Universe, a queer, polyamorous story about 3 people finding each other over and over again across different genres, bodies, and lives.

Casting Call for an Audio Drama!

I'm doing a casting call for my audio drama, Apocalypse Radio.

Apocalypse Radio is a short episodic audio drama about a person running a radio station in the zombie apocalypse while they wait for the military to evacuate them to the moon. The station runner (Mason) helps a caller (Will) to navigate to the nearest survivor camp before the evacuation happens, falling in love along the way.

at 9 hours and 18,000 words and the story i was writing is now finished. that's great and all, but now i'm not sure what to write to get the rest of my words in 😅

i suspect the hardest part will be the research needed. it's based on a tabletop campaign and some of it takes place in the campaign itself, which means plenty of fact-checking and making sure dialogue is consistent. if anything slows me down with this 24hr challenge, it'll be that 😅

currently gearing up for the 24hr Novel Challenge but I'm unsure which WIP to focus on. any thoughts?

Option 1: An original story I'd have to start from scratch (queer romance/horror)

-focuses on religious guilt and societal pressure

Option 2: An in-progress fanfiction I have big plans for (but am missing the notebook I wrote some of said plans in, rip) (queer romance/ coming-of-age/ historical drama)

-focuses on isolation, mental health, and grief

Option 3: An in-progress fanfiction with a less clear vision but the need for a pretty substantial length (queer fantasy/romance)

-focuses on tyranny, morality, and sibling bonds

24 Hour Novel Challenge countdown day 2: WIP intro!

Working title: Going for Gold

Genre: contemporary romance, rivals to lovers

Setting: 2018 Winter Olympics, Pyeongchang, South Korea

Main characters: Bex Kingsley and Nastya Pietrovna, two hockey players from the USA and Russia respectively

I just really like hockey and I think girls should get to hit each other and then make out. That was basically the whole thought process.

147 Years

When a child is stillborn at the same time as two lovers die, all three ghosts are trapped in the same infant body. As the undead body grows, so do the ghosts' problems, and they're forced to come to an agreement all while the body continues automatically hoovering up stray souls. In a story focused on themes of love, hatred, individualism, and sense of self, Chi Pin fights to find a place in a world not meant for them.

Characters

Chi Pin (they/them)

Chi Pin is the original owner of the body, a stillborn baby named Kalynn who is miraculously brought back to "life" by the addition of two ghosts—Qiro and Magella. They are the princess of an elven city called Thor Aru, and their parents never really understood their ghostly circumstances.

Qiro (he/him)

Qiro is the smart and logical one. He's the one who keeps everyone on track and prevents the party from getting distracted by side quests. He's a bit uptight, but this is mostly from the stress of losing his lover, Magnus, who he has not seen since his death 147 years ago.

Magella (she/her)

Magella is the strong one. She feels guilty about taking so much of Chi Pin's life, and she doesn't know how to break the news to Qiro that she is his old boyfriend—death simply granted her the transition she desired.

JJ (she/her)

JJ is the flirty one. She's probably also the most stable of the group, having the least amount of trauma despite dying of smoke inhalation in a tavern caught on fire.

Thelo (he/him)

Thelo was eight when he died, and would now be eleven if he still aged. He's an innocent little boy who loves animals, especially his pet frog. He takes control when the grown-ups are too stressed out.

Notes

These characters have existed for a couple of years now, since the day we first started playing this ttrpg campaign. The novel focuses on all 147 years of Chi Pin's backstory, and includes most of the campaign's events so far, that being all of their experiences with the party. I'm excited to get writing on this one!

Join the 24-hour novel challenge!

We're partnering up with Rebecca Higgins, founder of the 24-Hour Novel Challenge this year to try and spread awareness for the event. It's a crazy endurance challenge but it can be such a fun way to learn about yourself as a writer.

I participated myself in 2022, and despite being a working writer, I was surprised by how much I learned about my writing process over the course of the challenge. You can read all about my experience here:

This year, I'll be participating again, but doing this a little differently. Instead of the full 24 hours, I'm breaking up my weekend into two chunks of 12 hours over two days.

Along the way, however, some of these demons find themselves feeling a little too strongly about their assigned mortals to let go of them that easily--love, hate, and trust draw the demons' attention. Maybe these assignments will take a little longer than expected…

Seven Lovely Sins is an anthology (sort of) of 7 short stories wherein a demon is tasked with Tempting a mortal, but slowly builds a relationship of some sort with them instead. Each demon and mortal pair is made up of characters from my various TTRPGs, but knowledge of those isn't needed to understand the story!

Now Levi has to cover up Triz’s demonic nature to pretend to be soulmates with Valor in front of god, only to turn right around and cover up Valor’s angelic nature to be lovey-dovey in front of the devil, too. And then it’s time for the worst judge of all… Levi’s own, human, parents. The whole thing sounds like more trouble than it’s worth, but under threat of eir parents ruining eir life when ey eventually bring home actual girlfriends, ey’re willing to pretend… until ey realize ey’re unfortunately falling for the angel and demon by eir side.
