devotional moodboard for Hestia, goddess of the hearth
In thee the Gods have fixed their dwelling place; strong, stable basis of the mortal race. Eternal, much formed, ever florid queen, laughing and blessed, and of lovely mien.

Can any Pagans, Wiccans, Druids and Witches alike, I'm asking for a prayer to be sent out for my mom who is in the ICU right now with a bad infection and possible pneumonia (she is a cancer patient) please, if anyone can pray for her, her name is Kara, she's such a beautiful person and is pagan herself. She's the best person I know and deserves all the good attention and good vibes right now.

A prayer to Romanticize life
Tumblr media
Oh heavenly Aphrodite,
You who who oversees the beauty in small things,
Whether in a child's laugh, in a good friend or somewhere in a field of flowers; We can see thy face everywhere.
Oh heavenly Aphrodite,
You who created our bodies along the sweet roses and the tranquility of holy starlight, I praise thee!
May you grant me to see thy beauty not only around me but to see the one you have created within me.
Oh heavenly Aphrodite,
May you grant me to see thy peace and grace in the small things so that I can appreciate the beauty of the deathless Gods.

I’m so grateful for my beautiful altar space, but I’m missing my first altar something fierce today. It was just a cereal bowl and a candle, but it was where I met the gods for the first time.

Yesterday my roommate and I were at a local metaphysical store, and I wanted to get crystals to use as stones for my altar to Hermes Propylaios and Apollon Agyeius we keep by the door. I found a sunstone, but it didn’t feel right. I really wanted something in an obelisk shape, similar to the shape of stones dedicated to Apollon Agyeius in ancient times. I picked up a pretty orange obelisk that I felt drawn to; imagine my surprise when the store owner said, “That’s Golden Healer.” Y’all. Apollo picked his own rock.

This is great! I like calling what I do prayer, but only because sometimes I actually make tea and sit with the gods, so that’s my tea time.
Since my prayers aren't really traditional (I'm trying but I just don't have the time and materials the Greeks had back in the day) and the word "prayer" usually makes people think of Christianity (I'm not Christian) I've decided I'm gonna call my time of showing love and respect to my gods and goddesses "deity tea time". Thoughts?

I mean, it’s not something I would do personally, but I don’t see why not. Have to seen the Dionysus-Jesus parallels? Crazy.
I really want to incorporate Jesus into my practice, but I haven’t seen much information to see if that’s cool to do while being a Hellenist.

Fleet-footed Iris, swift as the storm,
golden-winged goddess, I call out to you.
Daughter of Thaumus, ancient one of the sea,
and bright-lit Elektra of the thunderhead,
sister of the fearsome Harpies, I honor your might.
Iris of the rainbow, many-colored goddess,
handmaid and herald of deep-eyed Hera,
yours is a duty needful and grave;
messenger and courier, you speak with the voice
of all Olympus–the Trojans and the Argonauts
did tremble at your words. Harbinger of hope,
goddess of the new day, I pray to you

I thought this was a question and I was about to say YES! Also, you can always promise to offer something at a later date when you are able to.
it's okay to ask your Deities for help when you have nothing to offer in return, especially when you're scared

Hey! This is a great question! The answer to both is absolutely no, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You can pray however, whenever, and wherever you want!
Stuck in traffic? Pray! Bad day at work? Pray! Having an awesome day? Pray! Anywhere, anytime, all the time—pray!
As a recovering Catholic, I still do pray pretty formally and usually silently, but you don’t have to. Some of my most powerful moments of prayer are just talking to the gods as friends or family, pouring my heart out when I’m having a bad time.
However you pray is a-okay! It’s going to feel weird at first, especially if you’re not used to praying. Sometimes I find holding something can help ground me, so I like prayer beads, but you don’t need them. You just need yourself.
What words should you use? Any words are fine. If you prefer to be more formal, that’s great, but it’s not required. Some simple examples:
Lady Hestia, be with me.
Father Zeus, be a father to me.
Lord Hermes, help me to speak well.
Prayer, like any activity, is a learned skill. Lean into what you enjoy and pray in ways that are comfortable and comforting to you. I cannot stress enough that there is no right or wrong way to pray. I firmly believe the gods, close as they are to the One, understand our intentions and hear us, no matter how informal a prayer may be. As long as we are respectful, I see no reason for the gods to ignore us.
But what if you don’t want to pray extemporaneously? Wonderful translations of the Orphic and Homeric hymns can provide you with lovely prayers, and many books and blogs have written prayers to use. You are not less, and your prayer not less devout, just because it’s written down beforehand.
Prayer, whether pagan or Christian, has a rich, varied tradition full of options for you to make your prayer life as unique and as individual as your relationship to the gods.
The hard part is really the hard part of any religion—you have to have a little faith the gods are listening. Trust me when I say they are. Just open your heart, take that leap of faith, and pray.
Gods be with you, dear friend. Please reach out if you need anything. I wish you well on your prayer journey!
as someone who grown up with atheistic family and friends i don't really know how to pray. the only example i have is my christian aunty and childhood memories of going to churches like three times total?? so yea, i have never seen people be audible with their prayers, so i just assumed that you need to pray in your thoughts in complete silence. and, well—
APPARENTLY IT'S NOT THE CASE???
i've seen someone's post saying that you should talk with your gods or else they won't pay attention to you because they can't read your mind. it makes so much sense that i can't help but feel stupid.
i could really use some guidance from other polytheists out there. do you have to be in specific environment to pray? do i need some special words to pray? i know nothing and it confuses me to the core
