Grian hates Gem. Gem is so close with Pearl, with one of Grian's evolutionists, his Pearl. It makes him have to grind his teeth together to bite mean words. He doesn't tell Gem, because he loves her, and hates her, and he would rather die than say something as childish as "you're stealing my friend from me."
Then she invites him out for drinks and scary ghost stories. He gets so, so drunk and tells her that he despises her, because she's everything he could never be for Pearl and he hates thar Pearl looks at them both the same. He would swear that her gaze always has more love when looking at Gem.
Then, he tells her that he understands why Pearl loves her so much. Her crooked teeth when she smiles, the scar over her palm that is only visible if she flexs her hand, the freckles on her nose, the singing of her voice when baking- he hates her and loves her, because he knows why Pearl would love her more.
Gem, only a bit tipsy, holds him as he says awful things to her. Runs her fingers through his hair and tells him that she accepts his apology, and admits thst she feels the same. He kisses her tears off her cheeks and she kisses his forehead.
Pearl finds them, eventually, holding each other in bed, her bed, weeping softly and kissing, whispering apologies and accepting them and void, she leaves for a few hours.
They're going to explain so much when they wake up properly (after they settle, they both clearly need the sleep). Until then, she's going to stick Gem between her and Grian and snuggle her dorks.
Grian feels awful for hating someone because of jealousy. He's expecting Pearl to throw him away, toss him out after that confession. It would be what he deserves, after all.
But Pearl rolls her eyes, calls him an idiot, and kisses his head. She has enough room for both of them in her life, that's never going to change!

(tw blood/slightly graphic injury description + emetophobia warning)
Joel was excited to join hermitcraft, he'd get to see his ex-soulmate again. And maybe they could have another run.
They did, obviously.
He watched from a distance as his boyfriend fell, down, down, down. Unable to move to stop him.
At the bottom of the cliff he saw the bloodiest thing Joel had ever seen. Etho had somehow managed to have multiple ribs stab into his chest, tearing the skin and practically leaving his heart completely exposed. Joel ran to get someone, before he threw up on Etho's body.
He was not expecting to see Etho walking towards him, all previous injuries tied behind makeshift stitches.
Joel hadn't realised the scars the life series left until that moment. Of course the world would respawn them! Why wouldn't it, it always does this. It's probably the expert, though the stitches were a nice touch. It can't heal all injuries, though.
Joel thinks his reaction to the newly not-dead Etho was perfectly normal and proportiona tryte. The blocks he threw barely even hurt him, come on now!

Some rendoc, pretty please?
Doc couldn't possibly describe how it felt to see Ren charred, half dead, lying at the edge of a pool of lava. Even now, if asked, he'll give a non-answer.
But what is an answer is the sleepless nights he spent to make sure Ren lived. To make sure he pulled through, at whatever cost. The time he spent designing, prototyping and making. How he waited on Ren until the man needed to push him away for a bit of privacy.
He still can't voice it. Nor can he voice the relief, every time he sees Ren having fun amongst the hermits, laughing and smiling. Two very different emotions, all backed by the same intense love.

Cleo doesn't know how she ended up dating their ex-husband's boyfriend's wife, but they're not complaining. She really likes Lizzie, and Lizzie likes them.
- 💜
It's one of those relationships that just came easily. After the life series, it was clear they work on the same level of mischief. Turns out, they work on the same level of romance, too.
It does make date nights a little strange, but she's not complaining. Any opportunity to make Etho feel awkward is one she's going to take!

See the thing is, Hermitcraft is alive. Not in the traditional sense, but the world itself is so beloved by its players and it loves them back. That's why respawns on Hermitcraft are so easy. It's Players die over and over again. Sometimes it's silly, sometimes it's brutal, sometimes it's driven by their own or by their fellows hands. They all die. But Hermitcraft *loves* it's Players. So they come back. As many times as they want. Respawn is quick easy and painless.
And if sometimes Players reenter the bounds of the world afraid? If they cry out upon Respawns, half expecting to come back blood hungry and violent- if they come back at all?
Well. Hermitcraft is not truly alive, it can not comfort them. But it can give them this much. They will *always* come back. And it will never hurt.
Hermitcraft loves the hermits enough that it will fight the claw of death over and over. And the hermits love each other too. Hermitcraft may not be able to comfort them when they respawn, but it knows its hermits will.
The world is full of love, and Hermitcraft wants them all to enjoy it to its fullest.

This isn't for the theme I just thought it was cute
Moth hybrid Mumbo's neck fuzz poofing up when he's flustered
~🪶
Because of his tie, it just ends up creating a very strange ring of fluff poking out the top, whilst the lower half puffs his suit jacket up until you can barely see his face.
Grian finds it equally hilarious and adorable. Whether it's him or another hermit, they're all delighted to see it.

Gem died. Pearl knew. She saw it. The screams. The warden grunting. She knew.
And yet she's on her front doorstep, smiling weakly.
How-*how*???
She doesn't understand, and yet Gem didn't even bother. She just hugged her and went inside, as if she just came back from work.
She felt something tingling on the right side of her neck, she touched it and stared in horror.
Skulk.
And yet, despite it all... Gem is no different than before. She's quicker to anger but in a colder, dangerous way. It's never directed at Pearl, though. For Pearl, she's the same Gem that she's always known. Sweet, attentive and full of love. There's just the occasional skulk that creeps around their house, or the way Gem's eyes seem so much darker than before.
It worries Pearl. But, she thinks she shouldn't question this kind of luck too harshly. Another chance is so much more than she thought she'd get.

Cleo was murdered at some point during season 6, however Grian revived her with his watcher magic with one side effect : She'd be a true zombie permanently. Until now, she had just been cosplaying as one
(Also one for Lesbian Visibility Day)
Pearl and Gem can't die. They just can't. No-one knows why they can't, but it just happens. Their other partner, Cleo, actually found out at one point : They heal by cuddling together. Turns out they had this ability this whole time.
It's a funny relationship to have. Two people who can't die, and one who's already dead. They told Cleo about their ability when they started dating. They didn't know the affect their healing cuddles might have on Cleo's undeadness, so they wanted to take it slow. Figure things out without hurting Cleo.
It turns out, it mostly just moisturises Cleo's skin. Which is a nice benefit, but she thinks it's because of their great skincare routines. Not any magical runoff that she's getting from them.

Mumbo's always wearing his suit. He likes it, it's fancy, but it's also comfortable, and redstone gets out of it pretty easily.
So the rare times he's seen taking off his tie, or his jacket, Scar and Grian always find themselves staring like victorian men seeing an ankle.
They once caught a hint of Mumbo's collarbone. It was scandalous! Not only leaving his tie aside, bit having his buttons undone far enough to see a collarbone...
Of course, they see Mumbo in sleepwear plenty often. But that doesn't count, okay?!

polyhermits for the theme except i hate apocalypse scenarios /lh
In the ruins of the world, rose a new society from the ashes of the former.
One built from love and care.
A cure was found, a community was once again safe to rebuild
Xisuma took lead in organising them all, after all he used to be a captain… before the outbreak. And at his side was Keralis, someone he’d found only two weeks into the disaster. Here they were, hand in hand, 18 months later.
Scar lead the construction team, turning their tents and rubble into beautiful homes and utility buildings. Grian and Pearl, who had been inseparable since their reunion 3 months into the infection, teased each other, like they had when they were kids growing up on the same road. As rowdy as they were, it only took a kiss on the cheek from Gem (or really any of their partners) to shut them both up.
The redstoners scavenged for connections, and began wiring necessities, including communication devices with the outside world and a CD player (Impulse now felt less stupid for keeping his Pigstep CD in his bag through all of this. )
Tomorrow they could reach out to any other survivors, tonight they danced. Tonight they enjoyed the warmth of a fire, a fire they didn’t need to worry about putting out incase an infected spotted them.
Tonight they were warm, tonight they were happy, tonight they were in love.
-🌻
The world outside is a scary thought. The peace they've created here could be shattered in an instant, and all that's left would be ruins once more.
That's a problem for tomorrow, though.
Right now, their fields are taking, green growing from the dirt. Their houses have weathered the storms they were so scared about. Water runs through pipes, and heat sometimes with it.
Tonight is floor celebrating how far they've already come. The future is another challenge to face together.

!For theme!
Everyone knows about the “respawns” at some point or another in a persons life it just starts happening ya die bam! Suddenly back to life where you last slept and the hermits take full advantage of this. I mean how else do you think someone as danger prone as Scar survives or the whacky hijinx Grian gets pulled into during the life series? That’s not to say it’s a painless experience for good reason just cause ya die doesn’t mean it autofixes any other injuries. Cleo learned that one the hard way when she died with a still broken arm and it only delayed the recovery by a week when she respawned. Needless to say it has its upsides but it also has its drawbacks.
Rando anon
It's a last resort, and the hermits treat it as such. They know it's not theirs to abuse. If recovery needs to be done, it can be done alongside each other, with plenty of kisses.

Losing flight means losing your life when you're an elytran.
Their body immediately shuts down if they can't fly for prolonged periods of time.
A few weeks? It's fine, they can still bounce back, they just kinda go in hibernation until they can fly again - which is why community is so important.
If they can't fly for more than a month, it's always best to pick them up yourself and get them in the sky. It can trick their brain into thinking they're flying, and buy them some time.
More than a month is risky. it can mean death. It often does.
Mumbo thought it was a good idea to keep Grian on the ground after he broke his wings.
It wasn't.
Mumbo almost lost his boyfriend, the hermits almost lost a friend, and the world almost lost that Ray of sunshine that is Grian.
He Flatlined. For 4 minutes.
Thank God some hermits know medicine.
The thing is, Mumbo wasn't wrong either. Grian shouldn't have been flying, not whilst his wings were so injured. And Grian didn't communicate his needs, so Mumbo had no idea.
A lot of conversations should have been had, but what's done was done. Now they have to handle the fallout. Mumbo throwing himself into his designs, terrified of confrontating what he's done. Grian still recovering, getting better by the day but afraid of how he's hurt Mumbo.
The hermits will help them figure it out. After all, they're only staying apart because they're so worried they hurt the other. It was a miscommunication, two people trying to do the best for each other. They'll make it through this, the hermits know they will.

Xisuma lost a leg after getting bitten by a zombie, and etho was so worried about his boyfriend not even Keralis, ex, pearl, and grian were able to calm etho down untill doc rolled xisuma out in a wheelchair.
The next few days where hard bit they where getting better for xisuma thanks to his boyfriend his siblings and friends
They had to remove Etho whilst operating. He'd usually be one of the most competent on their medical team, but he was a wreck. He would have been no help to anybody in that state.
All of them can breathe a sigh of relief when Xisuma pulls through. For Etho, as well. They've lost so much, they couldn't lose Xisuma as well. It'll be a long road for recovery. But, Etho is clearly ready to tackle it, even if it'll take a little while longer for Xisuma. Etho isn't going to leave X behind.

Auughh sudden thoughts about the theme have attacked me and now there's a watcher.
Watcher!Grian sneaking lost souls away so he can give them another chance of life, aware of the consequences his revivals will entail.
The inevitable discovery of his transgressions will lead to actions dire for all those involved and otherwise. Surely it's worth risking it all just to have someone able to smile again- able to try again, right?
~🪶
He's careful about who he takes. Those who's lives were cut short, through no fault of their own. No balance is disturbed. And they find a community in each other! They've all gone through the same experience, though in different forms.
He'll protect them to his own death. It feels right.

(tw blood/gore)
Grian is a watcher, meaning he's practically immortal. Scar, a cat/vex hybrid, doesn't have this 'blessing'. He doesn't think he'll ever get used to seeing Grian dead and then jump up like it's nothing, but thankfully, he doesn't need to. That doesn't happen much.
Until Grian crashes through Scar's window - because he's an avian, he can't see glass, and Scar only recently put the window in - and the railings on the stairs.
Scar was interrupted by a loud crash. When he got out of the kitchen, he saw Grian, bloody and bruised on the ground, glass stabbed into far too many places to count and his new window smashed.
Grian stood up, slightly unsteady. His leg was bent at an unnatural angle and he was struggling to stand. Scar ran over to him and passed him a crutch, hoping he'd be alright himself with just one.
- 💜
It feels a little ridiculous. The first thing Grian does is complain about all the blood he's just got across Scar's new build. He's resetting the bones in his arm, and he's whining.
Which is how they both end up delirious with laughter on Scar's floor, ignoring the blood in the carpet and their clothes. The single crutches, it turns out, were not enough to keep up two grown men who were keeling over with laughter.
It creates a much nicer memory for Scar, instead of the image of Grian's body. He just remembers how they sat on the floor laughing instead.
(The blood was a nightmare to clean up, though.)

There is something about death.
Even if you slip out of its grasp, swim away from the murky depths…the stench will haunt you. It will not wash off, no matter how long you stay in the shower. No matter how much hot water you waste.
It leaves you with a sunken in face. Thinner, malnourished, almost a blue tint to your skin. Eyelids heavy, eyebags dark. It leaves you tired. Aching. Weak.
Cleo will never tell you what she saw that day. She doesn’t think she could. No words in any language could properly describe it - it was not something a mortal mind could comprehend.
If she had to say? well…
—————
Joe opens his book, humming quietly.
He flips across withered pages. Old poems, quiet words.
Something catches his eye. Scratchy handwriting, completely different from his own. He remembers the moment fondly.
“Can I borrow your journal for a moment?” Cleo asks.
Joe raises a brow, a smile on his lips. “Sure. Why?”
Cleo clicks her tongue, unsure. “I just…wanted to write something down, is all.”
“Alright.” Joe hands off the leather cover.
He’s never written what she wrote. She told him he could, but it simply slipped his mind. Still, it’s an interesting thought - might as well take a peak.
Dark. Vast. Empty. What I saw, what I felt, was dark, vast, and empty. A hand, bigger than a building. Crushing me in its wake. I couldn’t see. Couldn’t hear. Couldn’t feel. I wriggled and squirmed in its grip. I wasn’t … afraid, maybe. I just wasn’t ready. I pushed and shoved with all my might. I don’t know how I escaped. All I know is that my chest still feels tight.
Interesting.
Joe would describe his and Cleo's love similarly - something indescribable but ever present. It's revealing your deepest parts to someone, but never speaking of it after. It's carrying that weight with you, because though you can never take its burden, you can at least share it.
And it's choosing to laugh and smile with each other still, because to be alive (or close to it) at the same time in the same space is something indescribable too.
