Holy Rude an ancient Scottish term meaning the true Cross. We are a liturgy based Christian blog, sometimes described as irreverent, rude, maybe even offensive, but Jesus offended many too. We hope to create a strong space to explore (Un)Conditional Discipleship & Exploration https://holyrude.wordpress.com #godislove #godisgood #faith #faithingod #devotion #lectionary #christianleft #christian #progressivechristian

Be strong and courageous
God, I am not sure I am ready to be strong and courageous.

A Psalm for When I am Afraid
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27
God I’m terrified.
Terrified that I will be found out.
Everyone will know I’m a fraud.
I hide in darkness.
Shrouded in secrecy.
But there is a dim light,
Shining on the path before me.
Will I take it?
Can I take it?
Guide my steps, O God.
Take my hand.

A powerless and unmanageable life
A powerless and unmanageable life
When we first envisioned Holy Rude last October, we wanted a space to wrestle with radical discipleship rooted in the transformative and provocative ways of God. We believe in a Jesus who challenged authority and the oppressive traditions of his time. A Jesus who befriended the “wrong” people, those living in the margins. The poor struggling to survive, shamed and outcast by society. Instead,…

Who Touched me?
In Mark 5 there are two faith stories. The first a woman scared by rejection, stigma and pain. In faith she touches the cloak of Jesus, it’s an act of courage and hope, she believes that’s all she need do to be well again.
The second, despite all the stories of miracles amongst them, the crowd laugh and doubt Jesus. He is to late to heal a child who has already died. At yet he does.
We won’t…

Psalm 130 I Wait
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have certainly in the past(and have hear others), found myself asking why does God allow suffering? Why doesn’t God sort it? Suffering isn’t fair; death isn’t fair. I blamed God for death and suffering.
Well the Book of Wisdom clearly says “God did not make death, and he does not delight in the death of the living”. And I am sure that the same goes for…
