why do some Persona 4 fans always forget that the shadows selves in the game are not lying when they talk? they tell the truth, a twisted distorted version of the truth, but it's the truth. the game establishes it at the very beginning. the Shadow is the Other Self. and literally the only way to stop the Shadow is to accept it fully.

deep down, Yosuke really is bored in town and afraid to be alone just like his shadow said.

deep down, Chie does feel inferior to Yukiko's femininity and popularity so she enjoys a domineering relationship with her.

deep down, Yukiko does feel caged by her family obligations and wants someone to whisk her away.

deep down, Rise does enjoy the provocative aspects of her career and hates herself for it

deep down, Teddie does know that he is just a shadow and that there is no truth to the mystery of his identity.

in the anime, Yu's shadow is afraid of being left behind and forgotten by his friends which echoe Yu's real fears.

then...there's Kanji and Naoto which is where the writing starts to fall apart.

deep down, Kanji does have an attraction to men (his entire dungeon and boss design is bara paradise and the Shadow outright says it) and is scared of his feminity.

deep down, Naoto wants to change himself to fit his ideal self and body (a man). he's literally trying to give himself top surgery.

however, Atlus walks it back for those two and acts like their shadows aren't saying their actual feelings. that's not ACTUALLY what they feel! the shadows were just exaggerating and making it up! Kanji was just afraid of girls and Naoto felt like he had to crossdress to get taken seriously! that stuff the shadows said isn't really representative of what they want!

I mean, Tatsuya can stop time and not just as a final boss killer skill. But let's break it down here for a sec

Tatsuya vs Naoya

Naoya (with his ultimate Amon Ra) has fire, lightning, and light skills. He drains nuclear and resists (50%) fire

Tatsuya (with Apollo) has fire, nuclear, and fist skills, plus the aforementioned timestopper which is light and almighty. He nulls fire, light, and resists electric.

Naoya only has one skill that can hurt Tatsuya and only at half strength, while Tatsuya can use Gigantic Fist and Nova Kaiser on Naoya all day long. Maya (with Artemis) has ice, almighty, and healing skills. She repels all magic and is weak to all physical.

Tatsuya is weak to ice, so if she can freeze Tatsuya she probably wins, otherwise he can probably spam Gigantic Fist until she dies. The real problem here is how Tatsuya could bring himself to attack Maya. Which probably means actually that they would team up together and kill everyone else before Tatsuya would just die instantly. However I am only considering 1v1 stat matchups so we'll toss that out.

Minato/Minako (with Messiah) have almighty, strike, and healing skills. They resist fire and repel light.

This is actually tough because they get one free revive per Enduring Soul, but they have no strike resistance and no nuclear resistance, so it might honestly come down to how fast megidolaon drains their sp (which is Very Fast, even with invigorate 3). 85 SP, even with a 7 sp refund (effective 78 sp) is gonna leave you high and dry faster than Apollo's 54 sp skills. They can swap to God's Hand to take advantage of the shiny new physical skills drain hp mechanic in 3, but that just means they'll go down that much faster, even with enduring soul. I'm not counting Orpheus Telos because he's so customizable but I can if someone wants to hear my deranged brainworms.

Yu (with Izanagi-no-Okami) has fire, ice, wind, lightning, and almighty skills. He resists physical, fire, ice, wind, and lightning.

This is tricky to quantify because Izanagi-no-Okami learns so many skills that he can become something very different depending on your choices. If we assume he went for range over specialization and has all four elementals and victory cry... He's probably going to go down to Nova Kaiser, since he has no light or almighty resistance. If he coincidentally picked up bufudyne and ice amp it's more of a tossup, but Tatsuya can freeze time, so...

Akira (with Satanael, not Raoul because he is DLC. But I can cover Raoul if yall want) has Curse, Almighty, and Gun skills. He blocks light, absorbs dark, and resists everything else except almighty. Apollo blocks dark, so it would probably be a competition of whaling on each other with almighty attacks. Per stats, I have no idea. With freezing time? Probably goes to Tatsuya.

And for fun, of course, the answer is Naoya, Yu, and Akira are all screwed because they have no preexisting connections in this free for all, while Tatsuya and Maya definitely seek each other out, and if you subscribe to Twin AU as I do for Minato and Minako, they will as well. So then those two teams will annihilate everyone and then 2v2 each other. Honestly very balanced, but the Mina team's Salvation might give them the edge if they dont succumb to their own high SP use.

This will either end in an enlightened discussion where everyone respects each other's opinions or pure chaos where you just want your blorbo to win no matter what.
