Writing Poetry in 4 Steps:
Choose a topic: Decide what your poem is going to be about. .
Decide the type of poem: Different types of poetry have different rules. You can also always write a free verse poem.
Write the first draft: Don’t worry about anything, just get your ideas on the page.
Revise and edit: Delete, delete, delete. Get rid of what doesn’t make sense. Add a new stanza or get rid of a line. Rewording can also help with the poetry.
Example:
1. Choose a topic: I found an article about a school shooting and decided to write from the perspective of a school shooter. (This is a sensitive topic so you might not want to read ahead).
2.Decide the type of poem: It was supposed to be a slam poem for a school assignment, so I chose that.
3. Write the first draft: My first draft was this:
They say there are 2 sides to every story. 1 voice unheard, stolen, for every one told. 1 voice as ignored as a rock. That voice is mine. The victims are valued, important, The light in a dark cave. But I’m considered wrong, For trying to retrieve what was gone. I’m mental, Crazy, Insane. For using my last resort when no one would help. A bird survives only if it flies. A rabbit that doesn’t run cries. A mouse needs to hide. But when I fought back, my rights all died? I’m the cheetah ,Strong, but not strong enough. Seen as a predator, But actually, the lions prey. Don’t pretend. Don’t lie. You haven’t seen my side. You’ve stolen my soul, you wouldn’t care, And neither do I. I may be the killer. The murderer, The shooter, But at least I’m not a robber. Looking back on it, it was horrible. Grade 7 me was horrible at this. That's why you revise.
4. Revise and edit: I revised this poem a bunch and there are at least 5 versions of it, but heres the final draft. Gun raised, arms up. BANG, BANG, A body falls, Now one’s gone. I couldn’t ask for help. You said that you were depressed. You said that my problems weren’t serious. And like a fool, I believed that. I’m mental, insane And I know it. I’m sad, frustrated, But I can’t help it. I tried to prevent it, Tried to jump off when I couldn’t fly. I fell hard but not enough, tried again, The runt of the litter barely holding on to life. And no, I didn’t see myself here. In front of everyone, trying to plead my innocence. Because I'm not innocent, and I know it. But I still don’t believe it. Go ahead, call me evil, desperate, crazy. But you’re the one who turned me into a criminal, I’m sorry though, Sorry, just like you. As you can see, its way better than the first draft. Obviously, its not that great, but its the only poem with a first draft I could find.

BLACK LIVES MATTER
It’s 2020, why do I have to say this? Why do I have to watch as another black man, Another black woman, another black person, another human being, Is shot, killed, stabbed, for no reason, Other than the colour of their skin?
If its been 155 years since slavery ended, Why were black boys and girls still denied equal education until 1954? Why were black men and women still denied their right until 1965? Why do black men and women still get killed for being black? Why do we still pretend we're all equal?
If 'all lives matter,' Why am I here, Able to sit and bed and do nothing, While there are people outside, Fighting for their lives?
If we all bleed the same colour, Then why do you see black instead of red? Why have you decided that blue lives matter more than black ones? A uniform can be taken off, Can the same be said for someones skin?
Yes, it is 2020. But, in some parts of the world, It might as well be 1865. Remember black lives matter, just as much as yours.

A link to a youtube doc called Out of Shadows about how we’ve all been brainwashed by the media. It has a lot more conspiracy than this, but its your decision on what to think. Or is it? Whether you believe it or not, its pretty interesting to look at.
Also even though it has 13 million views, its not in the top results on youtube when you search for it by name. Some people say that its because the government wants to silence them. But then why hasn’t it been deleted? Overall, no matter what you think, you can’t deny that the media controls so much of lives. You might even find it scary.
Six Companies that Own almost all American Media
^These 6 companies own 90% of all American media. So almost every single time you watch a movie or look at the news, you’re looking at what one of these companies wants you to think. By buying smaller companies and branching out, they’ve made us think that we have a lot more freedom than we actually do. Interesting to think about isn’t it?
A lot of theories touch on this topic, and some people even believe that since these companies control so much of what we see and hear, they pretty much control our thoughts. These stats are from a while ago so here are some updates:
GE doesn’t own ComCast or NBC anymore so the 6th company is now ComCast
A&T bought Time Warner and they don’t own AOL or Huffington Post anymore
National Amusements and Sony are also included in different ‘variations’ of the Big 6, it depends on what aspect of media your looking at
But basically, it all comes down to this, with these major companies controlling 90% of what we see, who is really doing the thinking? Us, or them?

Conversation
Me: Sleep?
Brain: Remember that time your period started at school and it leaked on your chair and everyone saw but since you were like eleven no one said anything and you walked around with a blood stain for the rest of the day.
Me: Now I do.

I am: not sure of who I am, what I want to be, where I wish I was, and what I have to see, but I am not afraid. I think.
I am: who a girl, a dreamer, a fighter, a winner, a loser, confused, stressed, lonely, afraid?
I am: you who I see in the mirror, who I watch grow, who I talk to in the middle of the night, feeding off your pain, your fear.
