so you’re telling me that netflix’s dept q doesn’t have a fandom yet? when it’s got insane potential to be a prime tumblr fandom candidate? when you’ve got 1) matthew goode as a grumpy, arrogant english inspector riddled with ptsd (heavily reminiscent of david tennant in broadchurch) 2) an empathetic, yet badass sidekick with a mysterious backstory 3) a peppy redhead who’s the exact opposite of the main character and whom he reluctantly teams up with? but then the team works great together? and these guys, they’re all trying to solve their own problems from their past, while working on the most fucked up cold case imaginable?
tumblr cmon do your thing and watch the show already

After watching the latest episode of Severance I’m feeling completely lost about where the show is headed. I can’t even remember what conclusion we were building toward. Was Gemma’s rescue/fate the only main objective? When will the bigger questions about Lumon’s true purpose be addressed? And when do we finally uncover the mystery of this entire fictional world?
The show is incredibly deliberate with every detail, so I don’t think having three characters "leave" in one episode is lazy writing. However, I’m concerned about how the season will wrap up in a way that makes sense. I don’t mind a cliffhanger, but after two seasons, we need closure on some of the biggest lingering questions.
Severence Ramblings...
I had been holding out on Severance because the hype scared me. I was worried I wouldn’t like it, and as a huge fan of Adam Scott, I didn’t want to take that chance.
I was so wrong to hesitate—Severance is easily one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. It builds a multi-layered dystopian world that explores capitalism’s relationship with labor, thought autonomy, and power dynamics. And it does all of this with plain good storytelling—an intriguing setup, well-developed characters with their own arcs, and even a romantic core.
Not only does the show divide its main characters into innie and outie profiles, but it also makes the audience question which side they’re rooting for, almost splitting our own thoughts in two. I love that the show keeps their personalities consistent on both sides, which is why Helly R is so fascinating. Her innie seems more authentic, while Helena is clearly subduing anything decent in herself to please her father and stay true to the Kier ideology.
Anyway, after Season 1 set everything up, we need some resolutions. I’ve loved every single thing about Season 2, even with its many WTF IS GOING ON moments. Episodes 7 and 8 were crucial in unraveling some of Lumon’s origins. At this point, it’s safe to say—there is nothing redeeming about this corporation. I think they’re setting up a redemption arc for Ms. Cobel, who feels like every scientist whose discovery was weaponized.
With only two episodes left, I’m think we’re either heading toward a severed rebellion or Gemma’s rescue (please!). What I don’t want is another cliffhanger. I want answers.
What is the ultimate goal of the scientific experiments on Gemma? Are we looking at severed workforce en masse? What is happening in the rest of the world? Will Helena Eagan fall on the side of the innies? Can the characters integrate organically ? What was Irving searching for and what did he find?

LOVE SCOUT IS NAILING THE SUBTLE GROWN-UP ROMANCE
6 episodes down, and LoveScout is holding strong. For a show that’s so chill in its vibes, I am trying to understand why I am watching every scene with intense attention. The script is not exceptional; the story is not unique, and it’s not trope-free either. It all works together though - It’s essentially back-to-the-basic two people slowly falling in love plot. There is physical awareness, mutual respect and casual discovery of each other’s personalities.
Neither have perfect lives, but they are fully realized individuals, which makes it even more interesting. I love to see two otherwise confident adults stumbling into love and how it colors their world. Han Ji-Min & Lee Jun-Hyuk bring so much softness to their characters, and just their scenes together are full of chemistry (not the ‘lets-get-a-room’ type but ‘I-can’t’-take-my-eyes-off-you-and-you-so-get-me type).
Am a little on the fence on the recruitment angle, not sure if this field is as glamorous or cutthroat. I am enjoying the discussions about talent, skill and finding the right candidate. Understanding what’s between the lines on the resume. Having hired people in my career, all of those discussions resonate.
The only thing nagging me is the implied upcoming love complications - the second leads affections for the leads are not really convincing and I feel like unnecessary drama is going to take away from a perfectly good love story.

Shin Min-A is a riot in No Gain, No Love
Thanks to @mirambles for this #kdrama recommendation. I have been in a kdrama slump coz am not i the mood for 1hr episodes or reading subtitles. But Shin Min-a’s scene stealing turn in No Gain, No Love has made me a lifelong fan of her.
I already enjoyed her strong, feminist role in #hometownchachacha. In #nogainnolove, SMA portrays a completely different but equally engaging modern woman. Her character, Son Hae-young (SHY) is unapologetically smart, ambitious, financially savvy, empathetic and knows exactly what she wants.
The premise is a contract marriage as SHY tries to make money through a fake marriage but ends of up falling for her much younger fake husband (played by Kim Young Dae who has the acting prowess of a wallpaper). Sitcom level comedy, and an interesting second lead pair, plenty of innuendo (no shrinking violets here, thank god!), make this a refreshingly different Kdrama. Also there are vibrators, unplanned pregnancies, and poly amorous relationships..so not your usual kdrama.
Somewhere between all the comedy plot points, the show finds time to build out half decent plot line about found families. As usual, the rate of coincidence per lifetime is too high but thats your regular kdrama world.
I was completely entertained for its 12 episodes.
This is a business relationship, so it'd make things weird if any feelings develop between us. You and… The only feelings that would develop between you and me are dislike or even extreme disgust. You're awfully pessimistic for a young man.

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum
This teaser of the new ongoing Pakistani drama has a chokehold on me. The narration, the visuals, the background music.
youtube
Mustafa : I’m beginning to like you
Sharjeena : Now?
Mustafa : You may become a habit
Sharjeena: Why?
Mustafa : I will fall in love
Sharjeena : So?
Mustafa : It will be difficult to live without you , To be with me will become your duty, Everything will be at stake
Sharjeena : ok let’s do that (put everything at stake)
Mustafa : Life too?
I binged off all 21 episodes over Fri - Sat. I love how realistic the relationship arc between the lead pair is. Never been a fan of Hania Aamir , but she has impressed me as Sharjeena. What a strong and balanced female lead. Calm, quiet, not the silent sufferer, but one who stands up for her self respect.
First time watching Fahad Mustafa who is nailing Mustafa’s character. A good for nothing, neglected younger son of the family. Life takes an unexpected turn and in his marriage he finds a girl who believes in him. For the first time someone wants him to do something in his life and has unwavering belief in him. So he decides that he will do it for her.
Sharjeena and Mustafa’s journey begins - from an unexpected marriage to friendship to love. Two broken souls find their soulmates in each other and vow to never leave each other’s side battling their own struggles and insecurities.
The show is written by Farhat Ishtiaq - the writer who gave us one of the most iconic Pakistani dramas ‘Yakeen Ka Safar’ and one of the biggest hit shows ‘Humsafar’ . She rarely disappoints.
I’m totally hooked - I have been looking for a romance story to click for me this year in KDramas and I found it unexpectedly in Pak dramas. It made me ignore the rationale for the unexpected marriage. Thank god it doesn’t have ‘cousins marriage’ . The show is not path breaking , it’s a cliched plot, but the relationship arc and the lead characters are grounded and not toxic. Credit to Hania and Fahad for their endearing chemistry.
Is anyone watching this show?

Kim Go-Eun Shines As A Shaman In the Occult Exhuma
More thriller than horror, Exhuma has excellent performances by Kim Go-Eun, Choi Min Sik & Yoo Hai-Jin. Heavy on folklore & occult practices, good pacing. I have been very impressed by Go-Eun since Little Women, her face can be both vulnerable and steely. She is suited to ambiguous characters with unclear agendas. I mean, she is totally convincing as a shaman in the movie.
Very similar to the brilliant show Revenant (which I honestly had more space as a drama to write a proper complex story), a few occult experts to explore and old family curse/history. It all starts with a burial and a mystery grave, followed by deaths.
Exhuma keeps the pace, brings in some Joseon-Japanese history and makes itself more than scary jumps and sounds. It’s horror, but not the kind to give me sleepless nights.

We have dropped episode 4 to discuss the epic romance of Lee Mi-Hyun & Kim Doosik. The most understated, heart thumping, till death do us part kind of love story. We are obviously gushing!!
Moving Wins the Grand Prize at Baeksang
So happy for the cast and crew of this incredibly smart show. Superhero show with a lot of freshness.
With MCU in its phase 4, doling out content like its nobody’s business, it can be safe to say that we don’t need more superhero themed content. But then comes along Moving, and I find myself invested in this brilliantly scripted, produced and executed Korean drama about a bunch of reluctant superheroes.
Based on the webtooon ‘Moving’, the show is scripted by the same writer Kang Full. Moving is directed by the acclaimed director of Kingdom S2 — Park In Je. Moving boasts of one the best ensemble casts in Korean Dramas. A great mix of established popular and critically acclaimed stars and a great bunch of talented youngsters. The main stars are the familiar names — Ryu Seong Ryong, Han Hyo Joo, Kim Sung Kyun and Jo In Sung who are parents to the 3 teenagers played by Lee Jeong Ha, Go Yun Jung and Kim Do Hoon.
The drama revolves around 3 high school students — Kim BongSeok, Jang HiSoo and Lee Gang Hoon. But these are not your average highschoolers, they all carry secrets — they all have super abilities. The kids try to conceal their genetic gifts and their parents are trying to protect them unknown powers. But unknown to both the parents and their kids, the school they go to has scouted them and is meant for people just like them — those with secrets and dark past.
The past and present intertwine to lead us into a world of spies, super agents, and political conspiracies. The strength of the narrative lies in not the stereotypical story line, but the real life struggles of the families as they navigate this secret life .
So if you want to deep dive into this wonderful show - listen to our Moving showcase podcast and share your thoughts!
If you haven’t already watched it , listen to the trailer and if it interests you watch along with us! We will drop a podcast episode every week. Three episodes are already out.

Godzilla Minus One Is So Unexpected
Watched "Godzilla Minus One," and it was such a refreshing take on a monster movie.
Slow pacing, character driven, high on war trauma...it elevates the whole monster movie watching experience and makes the premise look so much less ridiculous than it is.
Set in the emotionally fraught aftermath of WWII in Japan, the movie focuses not on Godzilla itself, but on the people of Tokyo grappling with loss and the shame of the war.
Having recently watched Godzilla vs. Kong which was entertaining but also pointless, I wasn't expecting much in terms of plot. To have a fully developed storyline about the guilt and shame of a losing army and to tie it convincingly with a cartoonish monster villain takes serious writing and acting skills. The movie delivers.

THIS!! A 100% this! It doesn't matter if you have read the webtoon or the webnovel or not. By pure story telling means, the plot is too illogical at this point. Yes, even for a show where people come back from the dead.
I have made a very rough graph to illustrate my feelings about Marry My Husband Ep 12
What was that? WHAT WAS IT? WHY?!?!?!?

Marry My Husband is great cuz it’s a love story set in a nice shiny dumpster fire. Our MCs were brought back in time to make things right and get their happy ending together? Sure. You’ve just got to Work for it.
You thought your cheating husband and backstabbing best friend would just let you go all easy peasy after killing you in cold blood in the future? That energy has to come from somewhere. The traits they displayed the day they killed you were both always present while also being just a seedling of how much worse they could become. Knowing that, you now have to strategize and out manipulate them. You want your happy ending? You’re gonna have to fight tooth and nail for it.
This series is one Hell of a take on the classic Love Conquers All trope that’ll reward you just as much as it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. I’m excited to see how it’ll end.
