The blaring sound of your alarm rang through the air, the harsh sound disrupting the sereneness of the room also having drawn you from the warm comfort of sleep. A heavy groan wrung from your lips as you rolled over onto your back under the layer of blankets that were wrapped around you went to bed- now simply strewn about messily. The exhaustion of the late night you had still layed heavy on your eyelids as you looked up at the ceiling, fighting back the alluring lull of sleep. Reaching an arm out of the layer of warmth to grab your phone off the nightstand that sat next to your bed, the time on your phone read 6 AM as you turned off the alarm. Reluctantly pulling the blankets off of your figure, you stood up from the warmth of your bed, the cold of the winter air bit at your skin as you dragged yourself into the bathroom, turning on the lights as you walked in. After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you stood looking into the mirror for a few moments longer; the signs of the few hours of sleep were clear on your face. Most of the exhaustion had dissipated by the time you had entered the small kitchen of your apartment, checking the time again- 7:32 AM- you grabbed the black bag that you had discarded to a random corner of the floor the night prior and, dazed from the plethora of sleepness nights that you'd been forced to endure ever since the Guardians of the Globe were murdered. In their absence, villains and common thugs alike that usually plagued the streets were exponentially less manageable. You'd been hanging on by a thread since it happened, you were one of the only people left who could still deal with most threats that the guardians once had. The stress of it all started to consume you, you used to have the grace of being able to be a normal person by day, hero by night- but the routine of it all was flipped on its head. Hero by day, hero by night- your social life almost entirely died out and there no time whatsoever for any amount of sleep over a lucky 4 hours at most, being Wonder Woman had consumed you almost entirely.

 A quiet yawn left you as set the bag down onto your couch and went to fill a cup of water, the calmness of it all felt alien to you after how everything had been playing out for you so far. The water was refreshing- the cooling freshness of it pouring down your throat felt rejuvenating in a way as you set the cup down on the counter with a soft clink. The sound of your doorbell going off cut through the air, a sigh left you weren't even aware you had been holding. Making your way to the door, you undid the lock and peaked open the door slightly- checking who it was through the gap. 

“Eve, it's like 7:40 in the morning- what're you even doing here?”

You questioned, opening the door fully and stepping to the side, silently inviting her inside.

“... I don't actually know, I'm just- I'm just so tired. I don't want to be alone right now and I didn't know where else to go-”

She hesitated before finishing the rest of the thought.

“‘m sorry, I can leave if you want”

“You're always welcome here Eve, just a bit shocked to see you here so early”

A comfortable silence overtook the two of you as Eve situated herself on an end of the vaguely faded leather couch that was in your living room.

"Do you think today's gonna be like yesterday?”

“Oh gods, I hope not. I don't think I can live through another night like that.”

The constant combat from yesterday plagued your mind, and presumably Eve's too with the way her eyes were trained slightly off in the distance. It was something new every plausible moment, like anyone who could do something illegal and villainous, was doing something illegal and villainous. A small sigh of slight exasperated left you sat down on the side of the couch opposite to Eve. 

“At least we got to see Condiment King”

You joked, Eve's face scrunching up in humor at the statement-

“How does someone even come up with the idea to have a gun of ketchup that'll send you into anaphylactic shock?"

“No clue but let's hope that the thought process stays *behind* bars this-”

Your statement was cut off by a simultaneously sounded alarm from off Eve and muffled from thr depths of the black bag propped up against the side of the couch.

“Are you kidding me? Not this again.”

Eve groaned as she visibly deflated into the leather of your couch. You, of course, felt much the same, the energy you had for the day seemingly draining from you, sliding off the couch to grab your phone and to get suited up- it was gonna be a long, long day.

(oops this came out way later than i wanted it to... mb gng 🥀🥀 also this is abt the shortest a chapter will get cuz this chapter is just to kinda get back in the groove of writing and i promise mark wll be in rhe next chapter!!)
